CineTV Contest : Indiana Jones

Review by @mypathtofire · 934d · of Raiders of the Lost Ark

Hello Movie fans!

This is my entry into the CineTV contest 91, Favorite Christmas Movie. The link is here.

Name - Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny Released - 2023 Director - James Mangold

This week's contest about your favorite christmas movie and at christmas time people are usually watching some of the classic films like Home Alone or Back to the Future. Among those classics for me would be to watch some Indiana Jones movies.

Who can beat some classic Indy searching for the lost ark and the memorable scene when they open it. There is also the Last Crusade with the brilliant Sean Connery who really made that film as Indy's Dad.

However, this year on Disney they have the newest version of Indy made this year called the Dial of Destiny, so I thought I would give it a watch instead and give my review.

The film starts off with our favorite action hero Indy deep behind enemy lines searching for stolen artifacts when he comes face to face with the films new foe Jürgen Voller played by the currently very popular Mads Mikkelsen who seems to be in everything at the moment!

The film has everything you would expect from an Indy film and pretty much rehashes all the old stunts from all the previous films. Indy with insects, Indy fighting on a train, Indy wrestling bad guys in a car chase, aeroplane and on and on it goes.

It is a classic cat and mouse game he plays getting caught by Jüegen, but escaping at the last minute. It does take some stretching of the imagination though as he is now 81 years old and does look it in the film. However, the film is a pure nostaligic easy watching flick for Indy fans and I guess this doesn't matter.

Similar to many of the other actors his age rehashing their major hits like Tom Cruise in Top Gun, Harrison dons the hat and whip for Indy once more. Unlike with Keanu Reeves who didn't want to make a rehash of The Matrix, Harrison seems more happy in the role though.

At times the film comes across as an old school reunion with many of your favorite Indy characters making an appearance like the awesome Sallah who still wears the same traditional egyptian hat from 30 years ago. I love the actor John Rhys-Davies who also starred in The Lord of the Rings. However, they don't really have any part of the storyline!

(spoiler alert)

The best part of the movie for me is the first train battle scene and it is the second half of the film (it is a long film) where they fly back in time and the fighting on the plane. You get to see some historical battle scenes as they fly around in planes with ancient battles taking place.

Overall it gave me that typical Christmas movie fayre where you could watch some of your favorite actors and do not think. Even Antonio Bandaras was in the movie.

Was it up to the standard of The Lost Ark? No, you can't beat the younger Harrison Ford, but it was still reasonably enjoyable.

Thanks for reading.

I agree, it was worth watching but didn't stand up to the first or third movies. Which is a shame considering the star power they had in the movie. They could have done a much better final sendoff for the series.

I think first of all I should watch Back to Future and Home Alone( as I haven't still watched these movies). After that I will love to watch This one. It will be interesting for sure to watch old stunts, Indy with insects, in the train and bad wrestling. Although you have given us spoiler alert but don't worry 😂 I am still adding this movie in list. Well, today I have watched The Eagle. Last night, I watched The Physician. These days I am becoming movie lovers. Oh, I forgot to mention that I am classic lover.

I think any movie that features the phenomenonal Sean Connery deserves to be watched, especially one as famous as the Indiana Jones movies. Your review of it is quite good and I hope to try out the movie whenever I can. Thanks for sharing.

I'll be watching this one these days. I've seen all the others since I was a child. Thanks for the review. It just made me more curious and interested into watching it. And now, that I have some free days from work, I can just deep dive into pop-corn and look for it online.

Frankly speaking, I am afraid of watching this one, and keep myself at a distance from it, ho ho ho! NB - watched 'The Rock' - the best film of 1996 - just a few days ago, and I should admit, that Shon Connery made it very unique and gave a nice aftertaste. !DHEDGE and !BEER

Remember how I was playing for hours in Indiana Jones on Sega. By the way movie seems to be interesting but I don't know rather it'll be available in my country or not official in cinemas what makes me a little bit sad. But anyway it in my must seen list.
