Otro mes de octubre y por cuarto año consecutivo en mi blog haré reseñas de films de terror; este evento del cual he decido llamar "HIVELLOWEEN" y en dónde por todo este mes recomendaré diferentes historias que existe en este maravilloso género; películas nuevas, no tan nuevas, clásicos del terror, series y miniseries; un gran catálogo del cual puedan sentirse influenciados (o tal vez no) de usar mis recomendaciones para realizar un maratón de películas o series y cerrar este mes el cual considero que pertenece al terror.

Another month of October and for the fourth consecutive year in my blog I will review horror films; this event which I have decided to call "HIVELLOWEEN" and where for this month I will recommend different stories that exist in this wonderful genre; new movies, not so new, horror classics, series and miniseries; a great catalog of which you may feel influenced (or maybe not) to use my recommendations to make a marathon of movies or series and close this month which I consider that belongs to horror.
El género slasher; sin ninguna duda es el que debe ser el más fácil de realizar, hablo de dirigir y escribir; muchos factores influyen en cómo debe ser una historia dentro de este género por ejemplo sí el asesino es visible o no, si existe el misterio de descubrir quien es el asesino y algo siempre importante, el motivo de los asesinatos; todo eso junto al cliché de los personajes tales como el primero en morir, el comediante, la chica sexy, la pareja, la miedosa y por supuesto la que se convertirá en "The Final Girl"; con todo eso solo habrá que colocar a todos estos ingredientes en alguna locación de fácil acceso para el asesino y listo, tenemos un film slasher; seguramente por lo que he descrito es que existan tantas películas de este tipo, clásicos, buena, malas y muy malas, como en todo género y lo que creo que puede diferenciar a otro tipo de film es lo difícil de ser original o anexar algo nuevo y por eso cuando justamente sucede eso, pienso que debería ser noticia entre los fans sin importar si es bueno o no; hago está acotación porque justamente en "Bodies Bodies Bodies" veremos una de las mejores maneras de actualizar o hacer más acorde a esta época un slasher. En esta historia veremos como un grupo de amigos deciden reunirse en una mansión alejada de la ciudad para celebrar lo que ellos llaman "hurricane party"; a pesar de conocerse desde hace tiempo y vivir diferentes situaciones divertidas y traumáticas, su amistad no es tal como ellos deciden actuar, ya que los prejuicios que tienen entre ellos pueda crear problemas y eso se hará más evidente cuando al comenzar un simple juego, cualquiera pueda terminar muerto.
The slasher genre; without any doubt is the one that should be the easiest to make, I'm talking about directing and writing; many factors influence how a story should be within this genre for example if the killer is visible or not, if there is the mystery of discovering who the killer is and something always important, the motive of the murders; all that together with the cliché of the characters such as the first to die, the comedian, the sexy girl, the couple, the fearful and of course the one who will become "The Final Girl"; with all that, all you have to do is place all these ingredients in a location easily accessible to the killer and that's it, we have a slasher film; surely because of what I have described is that there are so many films of this type, classics, good, bad and very bad, as in any genre and what I think can differentiate another type of film is how difficult it is to be original or add something new and so when just that happens, I think it should be news among the fans regardless of whether it is good or not; I make this remark because in "Bodies Bodies Bodies" we will see one of the best ways to update or make a slasher more in line with this era. In this story we will see how a group of friends decide to meet in a mansion away from the city to celebrate what they call "hurricane party"; despite knowing each other for a long time and live different funny and traumatic situations, their friendship is not as they decide to act, since the prejudices they have between them can create problems and that will become more evident when starting a simple game, anyone can end up dead.
Mi opinión sobre A24 cómo distribuidora es que son los mejores para dar oportunidad a cineastas, guionistas y actores de desarrollar historias que las grandes productoras nunca darían oportunidad; las muy buenas películas que he visto gracias al apoyo de esta productora y distribuidora es algo que siempre me ha impresionado y por eso tenía una gran expectativa sobre este film, estaba completamente seguro que para bien o para mal vería algo diferente en un slasher y así fue. Está película es dirigida por Halina Reijn, directora neerlandesa que hace su debut en un film de habla inglesa y que para mí hace un buen trabajo; no tiene tanta la necesidad de hacer escenas del tipo jumpscare porque pienso que la historia no creaba la necesidad para el uso desmedido de susto fácil a cada momento y por eso ella debe crear el momento preciso en las pocas escenas en dónde un sonido o una aparición sorpresa nos hará asustarnos; lo otro es el enfoque en cada uno de los personajes, antes y después de que todo salga de control, es preciso para ella como directora crear sospecha en cada una de las actrices y eso me gustó como otras escenas simples como el beso de dos novias, disfrutar un momento en la piscina el comienzo de hurricane party; cada una de esas escenas están bien hechas.
El guion fue escrito por Sarah DeLappe de la historia creada por Kristen Roupenian; el guion es uno de los MVP de este film, es uno de los más divertidos, actuales, reales y en mi opinión terroríficos; siempre estás historias, este género se enfoca en explorar la moda, frases, música, cualquier manera de divertirse en diferentes generaciones; esto se puede observar en "Friday the 13th", "A Nightmare on Elm Street" y "SCREAM"; diferentes épocas y siempre hay un reflejo de lo antes descrito y en esta película eso no es ajeno; para mí es tan actual y dirigida a la actual generación tal como lo es la miniserie "I May Destroy You" y la serie "EUPHORIA" (ambas de HBO); estás producciones me vinieron a la mente al ver "Bodies Bodies Bodies", aunque en esta oportunidad se puede sentir como una crítica o sátira desde el uso de la comedia negra y es eso lo que me pareció genial y lo que la hace muy, pero muy divertida porque se ríe de sí misma porque enfrenta temas desde un punto de vista cómico y no solo a una generación, sino que hasta creo que del género en sí; para mí es uno de los mejores guiones desde SCREAM que he visto en un slasher.
My opinion about A24 as a distributor is that they are the best to give opportunity to filmmakers, screenwriters and actors to develop stories that the big production companies would never give opportunity; the very good films I have seen thanks to the support of this production company and distributor is something that has always impressed me and that's why I had a great expectation about this film, I was completely sure that for better or worse I would see something different in a slasher and so it was. This film is directed by Halina Reijn, Dutch director who makes her debut in an English speaking film and for me she does a good job; she doesn't have so much the need to make jumpscare scenes because I think the story didn't create the need for the excessive use of easy scares at every moment and that's why she must create the precise moment in the few scenes where a sound or a surprise apparition will scare us; The other thing is the focus on each one of the characters, before and after everything gets out of control, it is precise for her as a director to create suspicion in each one of the actresses and I liked that as well as other simple scenes like the kiss of two girlfriends, enjoying a moment in the pool, the beginning of hurricane party; each one of those scenes are well done.

The script was written by Sarah DeLappe from the story created by Kristen Roupenian; the script is one of the MVPs of this film, it is one of the funniest, most current, real and in my opinion terrifying; always these stories, this genre focuses on exploring fashion, phrases, music, any way to have fun in different generations; this can be seen in "Friday the 13th", "A Nightmare on Elm Street" and "SCREAM"; different times and there is always a reflection of the above described and in this film that is not alien; for me it is as current and directed to the current generation as the miniseries "I May Destroy You" and the series "EUPHORIA" (both from HBO); these productions came to my mind when watching "Bodies Bodies Bodies Bodies", although this time it can feel like a criticism or satire from the use of black comedy and that is what I found great and what makes it very, very funny because it laughs at itself because it faces issues from a comic point of view and not only to a generation, but even I think of the genre itself; for me it is one of the best scripts since SCREAM I've seen in a slasher.
El otro punto positivo de este film es el casting y la actuación de cada uno de sus protagonistas resalta aún más la historia; las actuaciones de Amandla Stenberg, Maria Bakalova, Myha'la Herrold, Chase Sui Wonders, Rachel Sennott, Pete Davidson y Lee Pace, son geniales; cumplen con clichés que siempre deben existir en este tipo de films, pero a sus personajes estar tan bien escritos, era obligatorio que mostrarán buenas actuaciones, que cada uno sea un potencial sospechoso y a la vez víctima y sé que hay una que otra actriz que resalta como son Stenberg, Bakalova y Sennott quien para mí tiene el mejor personaje de la película, "Alice" es la mejor y creo que su personaje debería pasar a la historia dentro de este género.
The other positive point of this film is the casting and the performance of each of its protagonists highlights the story even more; the performances of Amandla Stenberg, Maria Bakalova, Myha'la Herrold, Chase Sui Wonders, Rachel Sennott, Pete Davidson and Lee Pace, are great; they fulfill the clichés that must always exist in this kind of films, but because their characters are so well written, it was mandatory that they show good performances, that each one is a potential suspect and at the same time a victim and I know that there is an actress that stands out, like Stenberg, Bakalova and Sennott who for me has the best character of the film, "Alice" is the best and I think her character should go down in the history of this genre.
Al terminar de ver Bodies Bodies Bodies pude leer diferentes opiniones y en algunas minimizan el terror que se percibe del film y que es opacado por el humor negro; en mi opinión ambas características van de la mano porque sin una de estas características no tenía sentido está historia, cada tema relevante así como cada muerte es algo que es imposible de creer y eso es lo que más me ha gustado junto al hecho de ser muy actual y posiblemente enfocada en una generación; en lo personal sentí que está película es como ver a influencers de las redes sociales atrapados en una mansión mientras transcurre un huracán y que cada uno es asesinado sin saber quién es el asesino; es tal cual, es entretenido y terrorífico por cómo cada uno decide descubrir al asesino y sus motivos; eso fue lo que más me gustó y no porque sea un fan de Influencers, sino por la crítica que es; ahora volviendo a si la considero o no de terror, vuelvo con el tema de los peligros de no saber en realidad quien es tu amigo o no, con quién puedes confiar mientras vez a tus amigos morir y en eso es que encuentro el terror porque tu mente se quiebra y eso te puede convertir en cosas que no esperabas en ser, ahí está el terror en la historia y pienso que le da algo nuevo al género o que por lo menos yo no había visto; por todo eso es que considero que este film es uno de los mejores que he visto, respondió a mis expectativas, pienso que es un film muy completo, en dirección, guion, actuación y hasta en el score el cual fue realizado por el músico Richard Vreeland conocido como "Disasterpiece" y que cumple con el máximo cliché que es darle un tema musical a un slasher; por todo esto creo que este film es muy bien ejecutado por todas las personas que participaron en el proyecto y la recomiendo en un 100%.
When I finished watching Bodies Bodies Bodies I could read different opinions and some of them minimize the terror that is perceived in the film and that is overshadowed by the black humor; in my opinion both characteristics go hand in hand because without one of these characteristics this story made no sense, each relevant topic as well as each death is something that is impossible to believe and that is what I liked the most together with the fact of being very current and possibly focused on a generation; I personally felt that this movie is like watching social media influencers trapped in a mansion while a hurricane is going on and each one is killed without knowing who the killer is; it is just like that, it is entertaining and terrifying because of how each one decides to discover the killer and his motives; that was what I liked the most and not because I am a fan of Influencers, but because of the critique it is; now back to whether I consider it horror or not, I go back to the theme of the dangers of not really knowing who is your friend or not, who you can trust while watching your friends die and that is where I find the terror because your mind is broken and that can turn you into things you did not expect to be, there is the terror in the story and I think it gives something new to the genre or that at least I had not seen; for all that is that I consider this film is one of the best I've seen, it responded to my expectations, I think it is a very complete film, in direction, script, acting and even in the score which was made by the musician Richard Vreeland known as "Disasterpiece" and that meets the maximum cliché that is to give a musical theme to a slasher; for all this I think this film is very well executed by all the people who participated in the project and I recommend it 100%.
