Since 2016, with the release of films such as "Train to Busan", it has made many fans of the zombie genre turn to see South Korea; Since that time has been made very good movies and series about zombies, the most recognized as the above mentioned, I can add the original series of Netflix called "Kingdom" which links the ancient history of that country with action and zombies, but just this year in Netflix was released a film where it has a story that we can relate to the time we are living in the world today, a young man locked in his apartment surrounded by sick creatures that will not stop until he is infected, but the confinement in his home may keep him safe or may lead him to madness

Desde el año 2016 con el estreno de films como "Train to Busan", ha hecho que muchos fans del genero zombie volteen a ver a Corea del Sur; desde ese momento se ha realizado muy buenas películas y series sobre zombies, de las más reconocidas como la antes nombrada, puedo anexar la serie original de Netflix llamada "Kingdom" que une la historia antigua de ese país con acción y zombies, pero justamente en este año en Netflix se estrenó un film en donde tiene una historia que podemos relacionar con la época que se vive actualmente en el mundo, un joven encerrado en su apartamento rodeado de criaturas enfermas que no se detendrán hasta infectarlo, pero el encierro en su hogar podrá mantener a salvo o podrá llevarlo a la locura.
"ALIVE" is a pleasant and entertaining surprise for fans of zombie films, I know that this year we are all waiting to see the South Korean film "Peninsula", which we can call the sequel to "Train to Busan", so both "Kingdom" and "ALIVE" would serve to appease the desire to see another story that belongs to the universe of "Busan", But going back to the film that this post is about, I think that by belonging to a genre which has many films and followers, it tries to do something new and for me that is one of the positive points of this story; As I had already said, in this film we have the sudden appearance of a virus that when infecting transforms normal people into violent and cannibalistic creatures, this will make a teenager who lives in a disconnected way from reality, wake up and have to face a great number of infected people in order to survive, but the confinement (which he had never complained before the arrival of the virus) will affect his mind until he can reach a desperation when he feels that he is alone in the world.
"ALIVE" es una grata y entretenida sorpresa para los fans de films sobre zombies, sé que este año todos esperamos el ver el film surcoreano "Peninsula", que podemos llamarla secuela de "Train to Busan", es por eso que tanto "Kingdom" como "ALIVE" servirían para apaciguar las ganas de ver otra historia que perteneciera al universo de "Busan", pero volviendo al film del cual trata este post, creo que al pertenecer a un género el cual tiene muchas películas y seguidores, trata de hacer algo nuevo y para mí eso es uno de los puntos positivos de esta historia; Como ya había adelantado, en este film hemos como la aparición repentina de un virus que al infectar transforma personas normales en violentas y criaturas caníbales, esto hará que un adolescente que vive de una forma desconecta<da de la realidad, despierte y deba enfrentar a un gran número de infectados para poder sobrevivir, pero el encierro (el cual nunca se había quejado antes de la llegada del virus) afectara su mente hasta poder a llegar a un desespero al sentir que está solo en el mundo.
This film, despite showing some originality, meets a large number of clichés in films of the genre of Zombies, the script is one of the things I liked, was written by Cho Il-hyung and Matt Naylor, The script was originally created in 2019 where the story was called "ALONE" that would end up being a film that was released last October 16 this year, but when Il Cho rewrites the story I think that by taking what was done by Naylor and relating it to South Korea, he gave a better touch to different things that the original script has; I have seen both films and I like the development of the characters and zombies in "ALIVE" much more than in "ALONE", but in the American or original version, there are better things done in the script regarding the mental and physical state of the main character when spending so many days in captivity, this is much better than what was done in the South Korean version; In the end both writers knew how to make better use of these characters and I think Il Cho, knew how to give a better protagonism to other characters than Naylor did in the original story.
Este film a pesar de mostrar cierta originalidad, cumple con un gran número de clichés en films del genero de Zombies, el guion es una de las cosas que me ha gustado, fue escrito por Cho Il-hyung y Matt Naylor, el guion originalmente fue creado esta historia en el año 2019 en donde la historia fue llamada "ALONE" que terminaría siendo un film que fue estrenado el pasado 16 de octubre de este mismo año, pero cuando Il Cho realiza re escrituras en la historia creo que al llevar lo hecho por Naylor y relacionarlo a Corea del Sur, le dio un mejor toque a diferentes cosas que tiene el guion original; yo he visto ambos films y me gusta mucho más el desarrollo de los personajes y zombies de "ALIVE" que en "ALONE", pero en la versión americana o original, hay cosas mejores hechas en el guion con respecto al estado mental y físico del protagonista al pasar tantos días en cautiverio, esto es mucho mejor que lo hecho en la versión surcoreana; al final ambos guionistas supieron que aprovechar mejor de estos personajes y creo que Il Cho, supo dar una mejor protagonismo a otros personajes que Naylor hizo en la historia original.
But before talking about the living, we must first talk about the characters that give the fun and terrorize the viewer, The ZOMBIES, from the films and series mentioned above, all perform well in transformation and how they attack their victims, always taking as an example a pack of hungry animals no matter what obstacles they can get, always go with much violence to attack no matter what, but in this film there may be certain changes or one in main and it is the intelligence that these creatures develop, maintain customs in their past lives and I know this in different films has been seen, but that they have a more advanced development and very quickly, I think it's the first time I see it, the other thing to note is that they are fast zombies, runners, at first not as coordinated as in Train to Busan or as fast as they are seen in Kingdom, but they are fast and I always thought that they are fast or slow, it does not affect so much because they are still dangerous.
Pero antes de hablar de los vivos, primero debemos hablar de los personajes que dan la diversión y aterrorizan al espectador, Los ZOMBIES, de los films y serie antes nombradas, todas realizan un buen desempeño en transformación y el cómo atacan a sus víctimas, siempre tomando como ejemplo a una jauría de animales hambrientos sin importar que obstáculos puedan conseguir, siempre van con mucha violencia a atacar sin importar nada, pero en esta película puede existir ciertos cambios o uno en principal y es la inteligencia que desarrollan estas criaturas, mantienen costumbres en su vida pasada y sé que esto en diferentes films se ha visto, pero que tengan un desarrollo más avanzado y de forma muy rápida, creo que es la primera vez que lo veo, lo otro a destacar que es son zombies rápidos, corredores, al principio no tan coordinados como en Train to Busan o tan veloces como se ven en Kingdom, pero son rápidos y siempre he pensado que sean rápidos o lentos, no afecta tanto porque igual son peligrosos.
Yoo Ah-in's performance as "Oh Joon-woo" is very good, it's fun, I think it's a good thing and at the same time a bad thing, the good thing is that he plays a young man who lives life in a worried way, who is sure that there will always be a tomorrow and that his family will be there to take care of everything, he is a dependent person without believing that he is and that's why when the whole disaster of the zombie virus propagation occurs, this tranquility and easy life is suddenly interrupted and makes this character realize that he may not be good for anything, here comes the bad part of the development of this character that I don't completely blame the actor, I think that showing an evident deterioration in his physical and mental state was the right thing to do and here he focuses on the mental one, making him go through phases that make him accept what he lives, if they were shown to this physically broken character for sure it would give a much better touch of drama to the story; the other thing I celebrate is the development of the female character in this film, if a zombie apocalypse happens, I wish I could find or do what the character "Kim Yoo-bin" played by Park Shin-hye does, her character is excellent, a savior, prepared and brave woman, for the short time she is on the scene is very important for this story, my favorite character.
La actuación de Yoo Ah-in como "Oh Joon-woo" es muy buena, es divertida, creo que es algo bueno y a la vez algo malo, lo bueno es que interpreta muy bien a un joven que vive la vida de forma preocupada, que está seguro que siempre habrá un mañana y que su familia estará para solventar todo, es un persona dependiente sin creer que lo es y es por eso que cuando ocurre todo el desastre de la propagación del virus zombie, esta tranquilidad y vida fácil se interrumpe de golpe y hace que este personaje se dé cuenta de que posiblemente no sirva para nada, aquí entra la parte mala de desarrollo de este personaje que no culpo por completo al actor, creo que mostrar un evidente deterioro en sus estado físico y mental era lo correcto y aquí se enfoca en el mental, haciendo que pase por fases que le haga aceptar lo que vive, si fueran mostrado a ese personaje roto físicamente de seguro fuera dado un toque de drama mucho mejor a la historia; lo otro que celebro es el desarrollo que dan del personaje femenino en este film, si ocurre un apocalipsis zombie, ojala pudiera encontrar o hacer lo que hace el personaje "Kim Yoo-bin" interpretado por Park Shin-hye, es excelente su personaje, una salvadora, preparada y valiente mujer, para el poco tiempo que está en escena es muy importante para esta historia, mi personaje favorito.
Il Cho as a director had to divide his work into scenes where he must show the mental deterioration, despair, rage and loneliness of his protagonist, but when the story focuses on scenes of action, terror and tension, the director shows a good job using closed spaces, exploiting comedy with the inexperience and fear of the main character; This is probably what I found funny and entertaining in this film, but it is also not perfect because of its various plot failures and it does not even follow the rules described by the screenwriters; there are many things that can affect the development of the film by the fact that it serves South Korean audiences and may feel some rejection from foreign audiences that may underestimate the excellent production of this film.
When I finished watching ALIVE I thought that this story would work better as a mini-series or series, I think it has the potential to generate a successful franchise and I don't know if that's a main idea of the creator of this story, but you can develop stories of other survivors and even the origin of the virus, to change a little away from the humor and make it more scary, with more gore; There are many possibilities and different paths that can be taken from ALIVE, without losing what has been done in this film, that's why I recommend this film, it's fun, good characters, very good interpretation of the living dead and I think that both fans and other people, may like it even though it is not perfect, but I think it shows an original way of telling a story of zombies.
Il Cho como director tuvo que dividir su trabajo en escenas en donde debe demostrar el deterioro mental, el desespero, la rabia y soledad de su protagonista, pero cuando la historia se enfoca en escenas de acción, terror y tensión, el director demuestra un buen trabajo usando espacios cerrados, explotando la comedia con la inexperiencia y miedo del personaje principal; posiblemente sea esto lo que encontré divertido y entretenido en este film, pero tampoco es perfecta por sus varios fallos en la trama y hasta no sigue las reglas descritas por los guionistas; existen muchas cosas que pueden afectar el desarrollo del film por el hecho de que sirva para el público surcoreano y pueda sentir algún rechazo del publico extranjero que pueda menospreciar la excelente producción de este film.
Al terminar de ver ALIVE pensaba que esta historia funcionaria mejor como miniserie o serie, creo que tiene el potencial para generar una franquicia exitosa y no sé si esa es una idea principal del creador de esta historia, pero se puede desarrollar historias de otro sobrevivientes y hasta del origen del virus, hasta cambiar un poco alejándose del humor y hacerla más terrorífica, con más gore; Hay muchas posibilidades y diferentes caminos que se puede tomar de ALIVE, sin perder lo hecho en esta película, es por eso que recomiendo este film, es divertido, buenos personajes, muy buena interpretación de los muertos vivientes y creo que tanto fans como otras personas, podrán gustarle a pesar de que no es perfecta, pero creo que demuestra una forma original de contar una historia de zombies.
