Since the beginning of the 80's the genre "Slasher " had a great boom all thanks to the success of films like Halloween (1978) and When a Stranger Calls (1979) released in the late 70's, but the beginning of a new decade would bring new fans for this genre that was appearing even more in theaters no matter how repetitive these stories are where it would always be composed of a killer, with many victims and a lot of blood. Despite the many films that influenced the creation of this type of terror, there was one that served as the basis for the great number of new films released at that time and was the beginning of a famous franchise creating one of the icon characters of terror becoming a brand that would always be identified with these films.

Se cumplieron cuarenta años de la primera visita a "Camp Crystal Lake" y el número de cuerpos siempre seguirá aumentando... "Friday the 13th".
Desde el comienzo de los 80' el género "Slasher" tuvo un gran auge todo gracias al éxito de películas como Halloween (1978) y When a Stranger Calls (1979) estrenadas a finales de los 70', pero el comienzo de una nueva década traería a nuevos fans para este género que cada vez aparecía aún más en las salas de cine sin importar que tan repetitivas son estas historias en donde siempre estaría compuesta por un asesino, muchas víctimas y gran cantidad de sangre. A pesar de muchos films que influenciaron en la creación de este tipo de terror,, hubo una que sirvió de base para el gran número de nuevos films estrenados en esa época y fue el inicio de una franquicia famosa creando a uno de los personajes iconos del terror volviéndose una marca que siempre se identificara con estas películas.
"Friday the 13th" was a movie that took me a long time to watch, since I was young I always thought that "Jason" was the main antagonist, you can imagine the spoiler I found out when I saw the 90's movie Scream, but that didn't matter because it motivated me to finally see the first movie of a franchise that seemed to have no end and to be honest the movies of "Friday the 13th" didn't motivate me at all, was always the same and found everything very boring, but if there is one that is original and shows something different, it is the first part that was released 40 years ago, a story that unites a group of young people who get the perfect summer job at "Camp Crystal Lake", a place that seems special, but do not know that the first day at that camp may be the last.
"Friday the 13th" fue una película que me tomó mucho tiempo de ver, desde joven siempre pensaba que "Jason" era el antagonista principal, se pueden imaginar del spoiler que me enteré al ver el film de los 90' Scream, pero eso no importo porque me motivo a por fin ver la primera película de una franquicia que pareciera que no tuviera fin y es que para ser sincero las películas de "Viernes 13" no me motivaban para nada, era siempre lo mismo y encontraba todo muy aburrido, pero si hay una que es original y que muestra algo diferente, es es la primera parte que fue estrenada ya hace 40 años, una historia que une a un grupo de jóvenes que consiguen el trabajo perfecto de verano en "Camp Crystal Lake", un lugar que parece especial, pero no saben que en el primer día en ese campamento podrá ser el último.
This film was directed and produced by Sean S. Cunningham and written by Victor Miller, despite the fact that the first one remained tied up as producer to the many sequels of this horror franchise, neither of them ever worked in directing or writing any scripts again. This is noticeable because when comparing this film with the others you can see that despite belonging to the slasher genre, it is distorted because from the beginning it gives a face to the killer eliminating the suspense of who he is and his motives; Both as director and screenwriter felt the influence of other films and stories to create their own, hiding the face of the murderer, his motives is something I liked very much, but not showing a main character was something better, it kept that suspense in knowing the identity of the murderer and the possible last survivor. There is something that I thought was great about the murderer and that is that while the film and the murders go on, each scene improves with respect to the tension and madness that he shows us in each death. This shows the evolution of a murderer who feels more and more comfortable and secure when he finishes with each of the victims, this is something very well written and directed.
Este film fue dirigido y producido por Sean S. Cunningham y escrito por Victor Miller, a pesar de que el primero siguió atado como productor a las muchas secuelas de esta franquicia de terror, ninguno de los dos volvieron a trabar en la dirección o escritura algún guion y esto se nota porque al comparar este film con los demás se ve que a pesar de pertenecer al género slasher, se desvirtúa porque se desde un comienzo se le da un rostro al asesino eliminando el suspenso de quien es y sus motivos; tanto como director y guionista sintieron la influencia de otros films e historias para crear una propia, el esconder el rostro del asesino, sus motivos es algo que me gustó mucho, pero al no mostrar a un protagonista principal fue algo mejor, se mantenía ese suspenso en saber la identidad del asesino y del posible último sobreviviente. Existe algo que me pareció genial con respecto el asesino y es que mientras transcurre el film y los asesinatos, cada escena mejora con respecto a la tensión y la locura que nos muestra en cada muerte, esto demuestra la evolución de un asesino a cada vez sentirse más cómodo y seguro al acabar con cada una de las víctimas, esto es algo muy bien escrito y dirigido.
The performances are of the least important in this film, I think we see the best in the final minutes, although we see a very young Kevin Bacon, but his participation is very little, it is obvious that they are only on the scene and then become victims of the murderer, I imagine that would be a very easy job for the director, just tell them "have fun, say your few dialogues, show some acting at the time of death. ..."; but as I said, it is the end where we can see the best minutes of this film, both in tension, suspense, terror and acting, an excellent teamwork of all those involved in this film, but is this a valid thing? For this type of film yes, some characters will be able to contribute with moments that make us ask if they are the killer or victims and here it is well acted and thought out, each character fulfills the cliché with the difference that there are potential "last survivors" which is one of the things that I highlight in this story.
Las actuaciones son de lo menos importante en este film, creo que lo mejor lo vemos en los minutos finales, aunque vemos a un muy joven Kevin Bacon, pero su participación es muy poca, es claro que solo están en escena para luego ser víctimas del asesino, imagino que eso sería un trabajo muy fácil para el director, solo decirles "diviértanse, digan sus pocos diálogos, muestren algo de actuación al momento de morir..."; pero como ya he dicho, es el final donde podemos ver los mejores minutos de este film, tanto en tensión, suspenso, terror y actuación, un excelente trabajo en conjunto de todos los involucrados en este film, pero ¿Esto es algo valido? Para este tipo de películas sí, algunos personajes podrán aportar momentos que nos haga preguntar si son el asesino o víctimas y aquí está bien actuado y pensado, cada personaje cumple con el cliché con la diferencia de que hay potenciales "últimos sobrevivientes" que es una de las cosas que más destaco en esta historia.
For a long time I thought that the film by Carpenter, "Halloween", was a response/consequence to what was done in Friday the 13th, I was very wrong because the film made by Cunningham and Miller, shows a great influence of films like the one mentioned above and Jaws by Steven Spielberg, This is another very important thing in this film, to show everything from the point of view of the killer and the music that is a great help to create the tension in the many death scenes, iconic music that has created theories of its meaning, but it is precisely in this first film that it is answered when you hear that whisper that says "ki,ki,ki... ma,ma,ma... ", this makes the people involved want to make an impact on this horror genre and I think they did. It's not a perfect film, but it's a lot of fun and whenever I see it I think the sequels are like a kind of parody of the original even though in the following ones there were people who left a mark on the world of terror. If you haven't seen it I recommend you do so, maybe you won't find it so scary because a lot of things have been seen in the cinema in these 40 years that have passed since its premiere, but it is never too late to see a classic Slasher.
Por mucho tiempo siempre pensé que el film de Carpenter, "Halloween", era una respuesta/consecuencia a lo hecho en Friday the 13th, estaba muy equivocado porque el film hecho por Cunningham y Miller, muestra una gran influencia de films como el antes citado y Jaws de Steven Spielberg, esto es otra cosa muy importante en esta película, el mostrar todo desde el punto de vista del asesino y la musica que es una gran ayuda para crear la tensión en la muchas escenas de muertes , música icónica que ha creado teorías de su significado, pero justamente es en este primer film que es respondida cuando se escucha ese susurro que dice: "ki,ki,ki... ma,ma,ma..."; esto hace que las personas involucradas querían dejar un impacto en este género del terror y creo que lo hicieron, no es un film perfecto, pero es muy divertido y siempre que la veo pienso que las secuelas son como un tipo de parodia con respecto a la original a pesar de que en las siguientes estuviera quien dejara una marca en el mundo del terror. Si no la han visto les recomiendo que lo hagan, tal vez no la encuentren tan atemorizante porque ya se ha visto muchas cosas en el cine en estos 40 años que han pasado desde su estreno, pero nunca es tarde para ver un clásico Slasher.
