Tres adolescentes buscarán impactar al mundo al convertirse en... "Metal Lords"
En mi adolescencia descubrí un movimiento que me ayudó a encajar y crear buenos amigos; el rock en sus muchos géneros me hizo sentir diferente a las modas impuestas por la sociedad, no era parte de ningún grupo y eso me hacía sentir único, pero la verdad era que de igual forma estaba siendo parte de una moda en la cual el rock era muy importante y que comenzar y desarrollar mi adolescencia en los 90' debe ser una de las mejores cosas que me ha sucedido en mi vida; el rock en los muchos géneros que he escuchado siempre han tenido mucha importancia en mi vida porque es algo que todavía me sigue conectando a una gran época llena de momentos especiales y grandes amistades; activa la nostalgia y es por eso que nunca dejaré de escuchar este tipo de música y es por todo esto que hago reseña al film que le hace homenaje a cómo influye la música a un adolescente desde el punto de vista del Metal.

Three teenagers will seek to shock the world by becoming... "Metal Lords"
In my adolescence I discovered a movement that helped me fit in and create good friends; rock in its many genres made me feel different from the fashions imposed by society, I wasn't part of any group and that made me feel unique, but the truth was that I was still being part of a fashion in which rock was very important and that starting and developing my adolescence in the 90' must be one of the best things that has happened to me in my life; rock in the many genres I have listened to have always been very important in my life because it is something that still connects me to a great time full of special moments and great friendships; it activates nostalgia and that is why I will never stop listening to this kind of music and that is why I am reviewing the film that pays tribute to how music influences a teenager from the point of view of Metal.
En "Metal Lords" veremos la historia de dos mejores amigos, "Kevin Schlieb" y "Hunter Sylvester", ambos adolescentes que pasan su vida en la preparatoria sin ser tomados en cuenta, invisibles para todos los demás, pero justamente Hunter tiene un gran plan y ese es usar su banda de metal "SKULLF***ERS" para ser parte del concurso de bandas y así por fin tener el reconocimiento que él y su amigo merecen; el plan está lejos de ser perfecto porque todavía necesitan un tercer integrante, un bajista; todo esto hará que crezca la presión en Hunter porque aparte de encontrar un tercer integrante, también está en hacer que Kevin, a quien ha influenciado en todo lo que se trata sobre el Metal, tal vez este en una búsqueda de una vida diferente de la que Hunter quiere lograr, esto hará que ambos deban pensar cuáles son sus prioridades, si es su amistad, el amor de una chica, encajar en la preparatoria, ser parte de una banda de rock o por qué no, todas juntas.
In "Metal Lords" we will see the story of two best friends, "Kevin Schlieb" and "Hunter Sylvester", both teenagers who spend their lives in high school without being taken into account, invisible to everyone else, but Hunter has a great plan and that is to use his metal band "SKULLF***ERS" to be part of the band contest and finally get the recognition he and his friend deserve; the plan is far from perfect because they still need a third member, a bass player; all this will make the pressure grow on Hunter because apart from finding a third member, he is also in the process of making Kevin, who he has influenced in everything that is about Metal, maybe he is in a search of a different life than the one Hunter wants to achieve, this will make both of them to think what are their priorities, if it is their friendship, the love of a girl, fitting in high school, being part of a rock band or why not, all together.
Si hay algo que defina este nuevo film de Netflix es que es pequeño, se nota que no tiene un gran presupuesto y que seguramente se hizo de forma rápida, esto no es una crítica negativa, sino que es una observación porque para ser sincero, creo que no era necesario el uso obligatorio del CGI solo en alguna que otra escena que lo meritaba y es que esta es una película simple; aparte de todo esto creo que el director Peter Sollett hace un buen trabajo, el cual en mayor parte del film se enfoca en lo que a primer momento parece ser una vida simple de dos de sus protagonistas, su descubrimiento del metal y su práctica y justamente esas escenas son las que más me gustaron porque tiene esa esencia de video musical en dónde bandas de rock irrumpen en algún colegio rompiendo con la monotonía y trayendo el caos; esa esencia de videos de rock de los 80' y de series de los 90', seguramente despertó la nostalgia e hizo que muchas personas puedan conectar con esta película.
La historia es lo que más me ha gustado; como ya he dicho, la nostalgia es la mayor herramienta que usa D. B. Weiss para quienes vean este film sientan una conexión con las vivencias de estos tres personajes en su descubrimiento del Rock; se me hizo muy fácil poder sentirme identificado con todo lo que sucede a los protagonistas y es que en algún momento tuve que explicar la importancia del género de rock que escuchaba en diferentes momentos de mi vida, el hacer lista de canciones que mis amigos deberían escuchar, el buscar clásicos del rock para entender la influencia en otras bandas, defender con intensidad el estilo musical de muchas bandas y sí, en algún momento aborrecer a quien no compartía mis gustos; es extraño tratar de ser un "Outcast", pero a la vez cuando consigues con quién compartir este estilo de vida sentirse bien porque perteneces a un lugar, es una de las mejores sensaciones que puede existir y recordar eso viendo a este film me pareció algo sumamente excelente.
If there is something that defines this new Netflix film is that it is small, you can tell that it does not have a big budget and that it was probably made quickly, this is not a negative criticism, but it is an observation because to be honest, I think it was not necessary the mandatory use of CGI only in some other scene that deserved it and is that this is a simple film; apart from all this I think the director Peter Sollett does a good job, which in most of the film focuses on what at first seems to be a simple life of two of its protagonists, their discovery of metal and its practice and precisely those scenes are the ones I liked the most because it has that essence of music video where rock bands break into a school breaking the monotony and bringing chaos; that essence of rock videos of the 80's and 90's series, surely awakened nostalgia and made many people connect with this film.
The story is what I liked the most; as I said, nostalgia is the greatest tool used by D. B. Weiss for those who see this film to feel a connection with the experiences of these three characters in their discovery of Rock; it was very easy for me to feel identified with everything that happens to the protagonists and at some point I had to explain the importance of the rock genre I listened to at different times of my life, to make a list of songs that my friends should listen to, to look for rock classics to understand the influence on other bands, to defend with intensity the musical style of many bands and yes, at some point to hate those who did not share my tastes; it's strange to try to be an "Outcast", but at the same time when you get to share this lifestyle with someone you feel good because you belong to a place, it's one of the best feelings that can exist and remembering that watching this film seemed to me something extremely excellent.
Es seguro que en este tipo de películas no encontraremos actuaciones que nos sorprendan, pero tampoco puedo decir que el trabajo de estos jóvenes actores es malo porque en realidad no lo es, ya que cada uno cumple con expresar las vivencias que experimentaron muchas personas que se dejan llevar por la pasión de algún género musical y al ser este enfocado en el Heavy Metal, seguro lo hace hasta más apasionado; la actuación de Jaeden Martell quien interpreta a "Kevin Schlieb" es buena, creo que es la representación de cualquier adolescente que quiere ser parte de algo y que por su físico o por cómo la sociedad lo etiqueta, se siente reprimido, pero a la vez sabe que en cualquier momento encontrará eso que le haga sentirse parte de algo; de la actuación de Adrian Greensmith como "Hunter Sylvester", debo decir que es la que más me ha gustado, seguramente cuando comencé a escuchar rock me comporté como lo hace Hunter y tiempo después conocí y tuve buenas amistades como este personaje quien es el claro ejemplo de la pasión que crea escuchar este tipo de música, Adrián hace una excelente actuación porque es real, no exagera, es un chico con una necesidad de atención impresionante y para eso usa su guitarra y a su mejor amigo para ser por fin reconocido y dejar de ser invisible para los demás; por último está Isis Hainsworth, creo que su personaje, "Emily Spector", junto al de Hunter tiene el peso de la comedia, pero también es un claro ejemplo de como la música une, me gusta que sea ella la talentosa del grupo, todos lo son, pero ella es especial, su personaje es seguro el que menos tiempo tiene en escena, pero es importante en especial en el último acto del film porque pienso que actúa mejor, ya que tanto ella como su personaje se siente más libres.
It is certain that in this kind of movies we will not find performances that surprise us, but I can't say that the work of these young actors is bad because in reality it is not, since each one fulfills to express the experiences experienced by many people who are carried away by the passion of some musical genre and being this one focused on Heavy Metal, it surely makes it even more passionate; the performance of Jaeden Martell who plays "Kevin Schlieb" is good, I think he is the representation of any teenager who wants to be part of something and because of his physique or how society labels him, he feels repressed, but at the same time he knows that at any moment he will find that thing that makes him feel part of something; I must say that I liked the performance of Adrian Greensmith as "Hunter Sylvester" the most, surely when I started listening to rock I behaved like Hunter does and some time later I met and had good friends like this character who is a clear example of the passion that listening to this kind of music creates, Adrian gives an excellent performance because he is real, he does not exaggerate, he is a boy with an impressive need for attention and for that he uses his guitar and his best friend to finally be recognized and stop being invisible to others; finally there is Isis Hainsworth, I think her character, "Emily Spector", together with Hunter's has the weight of comedy, but she is also a clear example of how music unites, I like that she is the talented one of the group, they all are, but she is special, her character is for sure the one that has less time on stage, but she is important especially in the last act of the film because I think she acts better, since both she and her character feel freer.
Este film me sorprendió; desde el primer momento pensé que es un gran homenaje a cada quien que cuando estaba experimentando la adolescencia y el Heavy Metal se le atravesó en el camino tuvo que sentir lo que se ve en esta historia; escuchar esta música que de forma inmediata despierta la admiración a quien la hace, respetar este estilo y defenderlo de forma tan apasionada que te sientes tan influenciado que debes buscar cualquier manera para expresarlo, sea usando franelas de las bandas, comprando y escuchando sus cd (ahora es descargarlo o por Spotify), tocando la guitarra, el bajo o la batería, hablando de cualquier canción o banda sin importar cuál sea el tema que estén conversando tus amigos, creo que está historia es una máquina del tiempo que me hizo recordar muchas cosas, buenos momentos, en realidad me divertí mucho con este film, buena historia, buenos personajes, creo que es muy real y tiene un gran soundtrack, me gustó mucho escuchar Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Metallica, Pantera, Mastodon y otras bandas más y por todo eso recomiendo esta película sin importar si eres o no fan del Heavy Metal.
This film surprised me; from the first moment I thought it was a great tribute to everyone who when they were experiencing adolescence and Heavy Metal crossed their path had to feel what you see in this story; listening to this music that immediately awakens admiration to whoever makes it, respecting this style and defending it so passionately that you feel so influenced that you have to look for any way to express it, be it wearing band t-shirts, buying and listening to their cd's (now it's downloading or through Spotify), playing guitar, bass or drums, talking about any song or band no matter what the topic is that your friends are talking about, I think this story is a time machine that made me remember many things, good moments, I really had a lot of fun with this film, good story, good characters, I think it is very real and has a great soundtrack, I really enjoyed listening to Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Metallica, Pantera, Mastodon and other bands and for all that I recommend this movie no matter if you are a Heavy Metal fan or not.
