A pesar de que "Pinocchio" cómo historia tiene una gran cantidad de años que fue escrita y que desde hace muchos otros existen versiones tanto en formato cinematográfico como televisivo, solamente he visto el film animado realizado por Disney en 1940; una versión de la cual es la más famosa y la que muchas generaciones han disfrutado; justamente por esa versión siempre he relacionado a esta historia con el comportamiento que debe tener cada niño y es que con cada problema que debe enfrentar Pinocho desde el momento que desobedece a su padre y a su conciencia, cada vez más se hunde un foso de problemas muy difíciles de resolver, pero gracias al amor de las personas que lo entienden y lo cuidan puede terminar convirtiéndose en lo que más desea. Creo que al ver esa versión de Disney me hizo pensar que las demás producciones siempre relatan la misma historia y por eso decidí no ver más ninguna otra, pero al enterarme que Guillermo del Toro estaba relacionado con la creación de una nueva versión de este personaje, inmediatamente se convirtió en una de las películas que más quería ver en el año.

In spite of the fact that "Pinocchio" as a story has been written for many years and that for many years there have been versions in film and television format, I have only seen the animated film made by Disney in 1940; a version of which is the most famous and the one that many generations have enjoyed; Precisely because of that version I have always related this story with the behavior that every child should have and with every problem that Pinocchio must face from the moment he disobeys his father and his conscience, he sinks deeper and deeper into a pit of problems very difficult to solve, but thanks to the love of the people who understand him and take care of him, he can end up becoming what he wants the most. I think that watching that Disney version made me think that the other productions always tell the same story and that's why I decided not to watch any more, but when I found out that Guillermo del Toro was involved in the creation of a new version of this character, it immediately became one of the movies I wanted to see most in the year.
El atractivo de esta historia aparte de ser una producción que cuente con el nombre y trabajo de un ganador del Oscar como Guillermo del Toro, es que es un film animado de stop-motion; este tipo de producciones les tengo un máximo respeto y valoro mucho por el gran trabajo que realiza las personas que son parte de ese tipo de proyectos, no hay duda que sé eso fue lo que me impulsó a ver la llamada "Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio" la cual relata una historia llena de fantasía, pero agregando un toque de realidad, en realidad un toque de horror dentro de la historia de la humanidad. En este nuevo film de Netflix veremos cómo "Geppetto" después de una horrible perdida causada por la guerra, decide crear un niño de madera para suplantar a lo que más ama en el mundo y a causa de ese gran dolor, la presentación de la magia del bosque se manifiesta y decide darle un máximo regalo la cual es darle vida a ese niño creado desde la madera de un pino y por eso le llama "Pinocchio"; este niño sin conocimiento del mundo, lleno de inocencia, bondad, pero también con ganas de experimentar todo lo que lo rodea, creara un gran número de problemas en dónde personas crueles tomarán provecho de lo que él es y eso hará que poco a poco deba aprender sobre responsabilidad y sacrificio, aunque amar eso siempre lo tendrá presente y pueda ser lo que cause una gran diferencia entre todos los que lo rodean.
The attraction of this story besides being a production with the name and work of an Oscar winner like Guillermo del Toro, is that it is a stop-motion animated film; this type of productions I have the utmost respect for them and I value a lot for the great work done by the people who are part of this type of projects, there is no doubt that I know that was what prompted me to see the so-called "Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio " which tells a story full of fantasy, but adding a touch of reality, actually a touch of horror within the history of mankind. In this new Netflix film we will see how "Geppetto" after a horrible loss caused by war, decides to create a wooden child to replace what he loves most in the world and because of that great pain, the presentation of the magic of the forest manifests itself and decides to give him the ultimate gift which is to give life to that child created from the wood of a pine tree and that's why he calls him "Pinocchio"; This child without knowledge of the world, full of innocence, kindness, but also eager to experience everything around him, will create a large number of problems where cruel people will take advantage of what he is and that will gradually have to learn about responsibility and sacrifice, although loving that will always be present and can be what causes a big difference between all those around him.
El film fue dirigido por del Toro y Mark Gustafson, el cual está muy unido al mundo de la animación stop-motion y quién trabajó con Wes Anderson en la magnífica "Fantastic Mr. Fox"; en esta producción ambos crearon un mundo excepcional con muchos detalles y es que eso es un punto siempre a favor de estas producciones, la calidad en los detalles es algo que siempre resalta, sea el movimiento de las hojas de un árbol, la lluvia, el amanecer y hasta captar los diferentes gestos del rostro de cualquiera de los personajes; todo lo antes descrito es tan maravilloso y natural que hace impresionante a este film.
El guion escrito tanto por del Toro como por Patrick McHale, quien es un animador, guionista, músico y director; decidieron explorar y darle profundidad a importantes protagonistas de esta historia y es que, en mi opinión, observamos un relato principal por parte de "Sebastian J. Cricket" (Pepe Grillo), pero también apreciamos dos puntos de vista más de los otros dos protagonistas, "Geppetto" y "Pinocchio". Con respecto a lo de darle profundidad a uno de los protagonistas, debo decir que darle mucha importancia (la que se merece) a Geppetto fue una gran decisión porque mi apreciación de la historia era sobre cómo deben comportarse los niños para no tener problemas, pero en esta oportunidad vemos cómo también existe un gran mensaje sobre la paternidad, sobre cómo debemos con responsabilidad, cuidado y cariño debemos afrontar tan importante rol; creo que eso junto a los muy buenos cambios en la historia es lo que resalto más que nada en este film.
The film was directed by del Toro and Mark Gustafson, who is very close to the world of stop-motion animation and who worked with Wes Anderson in the magnificent "Fantastic Mr. Fox"; in this production both created an exceptional world with many details. The script written by both del Toro and Patrick McHale, who is an animator, screenwriter, musician and director; decided to explore and give depth to important protagonists of this story and, in my opinion, we observe a main story by "Sebastian J. Cricket", but we also appreciate two more points of view of the other two protagonists, "Geppetto" and "Pinocchio". Regarding giving depth to one of the main characters, I must say that giving a lot of importance (the one he deserves) to Geppetto was a great decision because my appreciation of the story was about how children should behave in order not to have problems, but in this opportunity we see how there is also a great message about parenthood, about how we should with responsibility, care and love we should face such an important role; I think that together with the very good changes in the story is what I highlight more than anything in this film.
El diseño de cada uno de los personajes me pareció excelente, desde las dos Hadas hasta de los personajes de los cuales se decidió hacer cambios para qué se ajustarán mejor a esta versión; el que más me gustó es justamente del protagonista principal "Pinocchio"; no es un secreto de que es un niño de madera y debería quedarse como tal, sin nada que pueda humanizarlo o hacerlo ver a otro niño, que resaltará aún más por demostrar quién es y como es aunque eso no evite de querer sentirme y llamarse normal, un niño de carne y hueso y es que como lamentablemente siempre habrá personas que rechacen lo diferente, eso siempre hará que otros busquen lo que la sociedad obliga a ser "normal"; otro diseño que encontré fascinante es el de "Geppetto", me sorprendió ver ternura, felicidad, tristeza, decepción y también desesperación; no hay duda de que este personaje sufre y mucho en gran parte del film y eso hace que aprenda a lidiar muchas veces con la perdida de un ser amado, pero también aprende a apreciar las oportunidades que se le ha brindado. Existen muy buenos personajes en esta historia, con grandes interpretaciones, y cambios con respecto a personajes icónicos dentro de esta historia, pero justamente esos cambios están para demostrar o ser parte de esa mentalidad que tiene del Toro en qué no es necesario que los monstruos deben tener un aspecto grotesco, sino tranquilamente ser iguales que nosotros, pero con una mentalidad llena de horrores.
The design of each of the characters seemed excellent to me, from the two Fairies to the characters of which it was decided to make changes to better fit this version; the one I liked the most is precisely the main protagonist "Pinocchio"; it is no secret that he is a wooden child and should stay as such, without anything that can humanize him or make him look like another child, which will stand out even more for showing who he is and how he is, although that does not avoid wanting to feel and call himself normal, a child of flesh and blood, and as unfortunately there will always be people who reject what is different, that will always make others seek what society forces to be "normal"; another design that I found fascinating is that of "Geppetto", I was surprised to see tenderness, happiness, sadness, disappointment and also despair; there is no doubt that this character suffers a lot in much of the film and that makes him learn to deal many times with the loss of a loved one, but he also learns to appreciate the opportunities that he has been given. There are very good characters in this story, with great performances, and changes with respect to iconic characters in this story, but precisely these changes are to demonstrate or be part of that mentality that del Toro has in which it is not necessary that the monsters must have a grotesque appearance, but quietly be just like us, but with a mentality full of horrors.
Me pareció genial dar un fuerte significado a una perdida dolorosa; añorar y desear el regreso de alguien tan amado puede convertirnos o llevarnos a hacer cosas imposibles y es que el dolor tiene el poder de nublar las mentes y soñar en lo imposible eso es una parte de este film que se complementa muy bien con el valor de la vida la cual es el otro tema importante en esta versión de Pinocchio; apreciar la vida, los momentos que disfrutamos con otras personas, aprender de ellos para poder usarlos en otros, eso es algo importante y por eso creo que ese balance que existe en este film es lo que lo convierte en una gran producción, otro gran film estrenado en este año, un gran trabajo por parte de Guillermo del Toro, Mark Gustafson y McHale quienes dieron vida a cada uno de estos personajes para relatar una historia en dónde demuestras a monstruos verdaderos bajo el manto de la religión, política y el entretenimiento pueden usar a quien sea para conseguir sus propósitos, demuestra el terror que vive un padre al descubrir los peligros del mundo que pueden afectar a sus hijos, pero más que nada da el mensaje de como se debe cumplir esa función de padre cuando debemos como adultos saber expresar nuestros temores, molestias, dolor y por supuesto amor hacia quienes más queremos; eso es lo que más me ha cautivado en esta historia porque para ser sincero, me aleje del punto de vista relatado por Pinocho y me enfoque en la historia contada por "Sebastian J. Cricket" y por supuesto de Geppetto quien para mí es el verdadero protagonista de esta historia. No quiero terminar esta publicación sin referirme a otros aspectos del film como es la música la cual expresa tanto amor, en especial la que canta Geppetto a su hijo o la divertida que canta Pinocchio en su último gran show; todos los temas son magníficos y ayudan mucho a este relato; otra de las cosas que pude notar es la influencia de historias como "Frankenstein" y no sé por qué, pero hubo momentos en que recordé a "La Vida es Bella" y hasta de "Jo Jo Rabbit y es que en mi opinión hay similitudes en esta historia llena de inocencia y de momentos atroces como es ser parte de una guerra. Solo me queda invitarlos a ver (por si no la han visto) esta grandiosa producción, uno de los mejores films del año, una hermosa historia, muy original, bien dirigía, divertida y conmovedora; vean Pinocho de Guillermo del Toro.
I thought it was great to give a strong meaning to a painful loss; longing and wishing for the return of someone so loved can turn us or lead us to do impossible things and pain has the power to cloud the minds and dream of the impossible, that is a part of this film that complements very well with the value of life which is the other important theme in this version of Pinocchio; appreciating life, the moments we enjoy with other people, learning from them to be able to use them in others, that's something important and that's why I think that balance that exists in this film is what makes it a great production, another great film released this year, a great job by Guillermo del Toro, Mark Gustafson and McHale who gave life to each of these characters to tell a story where you show real monsters under the cloak of religion, It shows the terror that a parent lives when discovering the dangers of the world that can affect their children, but more than anything gives the message of how to fulfill the role of a parent when we must as adults know how to express our fears, discomfort, pain and of course love for those we love the most; that is what has captivated me the most in this story because to be honest, I moved away from the point of view told by Pinocchio and focused on the story told by "Sebastian J. Cricket" and of course G. Cricket. Cricket" and of course Geppetto who for me is the true protagonist of this story. I don't want to finish this publication without referring to other aspects of the film such as the music which expresses so much love, especially the one sung by Geppetto to his son or the funny one sung by Pinocchio in his last big show; all the themes are magnificent and help a lot to this story; Another thing I could notice is the influence of stories like "Frankenstein" and I don't know why, but there were moments when I remembered "Life is Beautiful" and even "Jo Jo Rabbit" and in my opinion there are similarities in this story full of innocence and atrocious moments as it is to be part of a war. It only remains for me to invite you to see (in case you haven't seen it) this great production, one of the best films of the year, a beautiful story, very original, well directed, funny and touching; watch Pinocchio by Guillermo del Toro.
