Unos meses atrás, realice la reseña de un thriller psicológico el cual considero que es uno de los mejores films de este año, hablo de "Watcher"; en el momento de esa reseña expongo que este género en el cine es uno lleno de clichés y que todo depende de la manera de dirigir, contar la historia y de las actuaciones de sus protagonistas para que sean consideras como un éxito, pero más que nada para que exista diferencia entre sus producciones; justamente uno de esos clichés o temas que se le puede sumar a este tipo de películas es el terror, el cual puede ser bastante subjetivo en muchos otros films y es que en los thrillers psicológicos no es necesario una maldición, un ente sobrenatural o preferiblemente un enmascarado para crear escenas de tensión, suspenso y horror; de eso se encarga la mente de cada protagonista con los escenarios que crea mientras siente que cada vez más pierde el control; justamente eso es lo que ocurre en el film el cual en esta oportunidad hago una reseña.

A few months ago, I reviewed a psychological thriller which I consider to be one of the best films of this year, I'm talking about "Watcher"; at the time of that review I expose that this genre in cinema is one full of clichés and that everything depends on the way of directing, telling the story and the performances of its protagonists to be considered a success, but more than anything so that there is a difference between their productions; precisely one of those clichés or themes that can be added to this type of film is terror, which can be quite subjective in many other films and is that in psychological thrillers is not necessary a curse, a supernatural entity or preferably a masked to create scenes of tension, suspense and horror; that takes care of the mind of each protagonist with the scenarios that creates while feeling that increasingly loses control; just that is what happens in the film which in this opportunity I do a review.
Nuevamente, Sundance Film Festival provee películas interesantes que nos sacan de esa monotonía de producciones que vemos en cada año; una de esas películas es "Resurrection", un film que narra la historia de "Margareth" una mujer exitosa, líder, fuerte, hermosa que controla un mundo conformado por su trabajo, su amante y su hija adolescente; esto no la convierte en una mala persona, al contrario, ella puede ser una representación de lo que puede alcanzar una persona cuando está centrada en las metas que tiene su vida y con esto, pienso que se puede considerar que ella es perfecta, pero ¿Existe la perfección? ¿Toda persona exitosa ha hecho lo correcto en su vida? Estas incógnitas podrán hacerla personas que son cercanas a "Margareth" quien verá su mundo destruirse cuando el pasado venga a golpear duramente su vida actual.
Once again, Sundance Film Festival provides interesting films that take us out of the monotony of productions we see every year; one of those films is "Resurrection ", a film that tells the story of "Margareth" a successful, leader, strong, beautiful woman who controls a world made up of her job, her lover and her teenage daughter; this does not make her a bad person, on the contrary, she can be a representation of what a person can achieve when she is focused on her life goals and with this, I think she can be considered perfect, but is there such a thing as perfection? Has every successful person done the right things in life? These questions may be asked by people who are close to "Margareth" who will see her world destroyed when the past comes to hit her life hard.
Este film es dirigido y escrito por Andrew Semans; este es el segundo largometraje y me gustó mucho su trabajo porque nos va mostrando la evolución del miedo de un personaje que al principio se muestra con mucha fuerza y control; la cámara siempre sigue al personaje de "Margareth" y por eso podemos ver su rápido cambio; personalmente me agrado está decisión porque la historia está contada desde el punto de vista de su protagonista, es ella que nos muestra que sus preocupaciones son la excusa perfecta para controlar y también para perder la cordura. El guion me gustó, pero no es para nada perfecto; a mitad del film pensaba que debería existir algo que nos muestre la razón de por qué del comportamiento de Margareth y eso hizo que por un instante el film se hizo predecible y hasta algo que se sintió fuera de lugar, innecesario; por otro lado, los temas que veremos en este film sí que son importantes y esos son el control y la maternidad; me gusta que en ambos temas puedan relacionarse de manera muy fuerte a esta historia porque veremos la imposición del control sobre una persona y la maternidad como vía de liberación y opresión, en este aspecto sí me gustó mucho el guion realizado por Semana.
This film is directed and written by Andrew Semans; this is the second feature film and I really liked his work because it shows us the evolution of the fear of a character that at the beginning is shown with a lot of strength and control; the camera always follows the character of "Margareth" and therefore we can see her rapid change; personally I liked this decision because the story is told from the point of view of its protagonist, she shows us that her worries are the perfect excuse to control and also to lose her sanity. I liked the script, but it's not perfect at all; halfway through the film I thought there should be something that shows us the reason why Margareth's behavior and that made the film become predictable for a moment and even something that felt out of place, unnecessary; on the other hand, the themes that we will see in this film are important and those are control and motherhood; I like that both themes can be related in a very strong way to this story because we will see the imposition of control over a person and motherhood as a way of liberation and oppression, in this aspect I really liked the script made by Semana.
Rebecca Hall es una actriz que puedo decir que está en el mejor momento de su carrera; la he visto trabajar brevemente en The Prestige, protagonizar The Town, pero creo que con The Night House y en este film es donde he visto su mejor desempeño como actriz; ella es la dueña de la historia, como dije el director se enfoca siempre en "Margareth"; vemos su experiencia en su trabajo, en su vida, en su manera de correr; este personaje domina completamente su mundo y parece que nada puede derrumbarlo, pero al momento de aparecer alguien de su pasado es que comienza a derrumbarse toda esa imagen y nosotros veremos gracias al trabajo de Semans y la muy buena actuación de Hall como todo eso va sucediendo; me sorprende el cambio que puede experimentar alguien que padeció un trauma y que nunca lo pudo superar, sea por no pedir ayuda o por sentir vergüenza y culpa, todo eso lo expone de una manera excepcional está actriz. Tim Roth también hace un buen trabajo, su personaje es despreciable, horrendo, molesto y eso es magnífico para esta historia; tiene un breve tiempo en las escenas, pero en todas hace un gran trabajo, su imagen y actitud es perfecta porque es el típico hombre que no tiene el físico, pero si sabe qué hacer y decir para hacerse notar y creo que de ahí radica el poder que tiene.
Rebecca Hall is an actress who I can say is in the best moment of her career; I have seen her work briefly in The Prestige, starring in The Town, but I think with The Night House and in this film is where I have seen her best performance as an actress; she is the owner of the story, as I said the director always focuses on "Margareth"; we see her experience in her work, in her life, in the way she runs; This character completely dominates her world and it seems that nothing can bring it down, but when someone from her past appears, all that image begins to crumble and we will see thanks to the work of Semans and the very good performance of Hall how all this is happening; I am surprised by the change that someone who suffered a trauma can experience and could never overcome it, either for not asking for help or for feeling shame and guilt, all this is exposed in an exceptional way by this actress. Tim Roth also does a good job, his character is despicable, horrendous, annoying and that is magnificent for this story; he has a short time in the scenes, but in all of them he does a great job, his image and attitude is perfect because he is the typical man who doesn't have the physique, but he knows what to do and say to be noticed and I think that's where the power he has lies.
Resurrection es un buen film, lamentablemente cae en parte de su historia con una decisión más que predecible y que debió ser mejor si se muestra el pasado desde un flashback, pero a pesar de eso pienso que es un buen film; después de terminar de verla sentí que tiene relación justamente con los dos últimos films que hice reseña días atrás, tales como "MEN" y "Speak No Evil"; en estas historias está la imposición de una idea, control, de fuerza, preferiblemente son historias que se basan en el relato de "El más fuerte contra el débil" y en este film el cual reseñó en esta publicación vemos la imposición de esa idea, tal como dije está es una parte del film porque la otra, que es sobre la maternidad es lo que también me ha hecho pensar porque lamentablemente por traumas, malas experiencias, existe una imposición, un control y uso del poder usando la maternidad; eso sí que hizo eco en mi mente y me pareció genial desde el punto de vista de una historia dramática y terrorífica porque sin tener una noción de lo que haces puede que estés practicando las tácticas que te hicieron daño a otras personas; con esto creo que mayormente este film es bien pensado, desarrollado, dirigido, actuado, puede sentirse lento y más porque sí, se hace predecible, pero el relato de su segunda hora es mejor, mucho mejor porque justamente vemos el verdadero talento de todos los involucrados en esta producción.
Resurrection is a good film, unfortunately it falls in part of its story with a more than predictable decision and that should have been better if the past is shown from a flashback, but despite that I think it is a good film; after finishing watching it I felt that it is related precisely with the last two films that I reviewed days ago, such as "MEN" and "Speak No Evil"; in these stories there is the imposition of an idea, control, of force, preferably they are stories that are based on the story of "The strongest against the weakest" and in this film which I reviewed in this publication we see the imposition of that idea, as I said this is one part of the film because the other, which is about motherhood is what also made me think because unfortunately by traumas, bad experiences, there is an imposition, a control and use of power using motherhood; that did echo in my mind and I thought it was great from the point of view of a dramatic and terrifying story because without having a notion of what you do you may be practicing the tactics that hurt other people; with this I think that mostly this film is well thought out, developed, directed, acted, it can feel slow and more because yes, it becomes predictable, but the story of its second hour is better, much better because we just see the real talent of all those involved in this production.
