En 1998 cuando se estrenó "That '70s Show" encontré una divertida historia sobre un grupo de amigos experimentando la vida de una manera muy divertida; las primeras temporadas fueron tan geniales que son mis favoritas, cosa contraria a las últimas las cuales no recuerdo muy bien porque siendo sincero, son sumamente mala y es que lamentablemente estás series al obtener tanta fama, parece que nubla no solo a los actores protagonistas, sino también a sus creadores los cuales solo quieren aprovecharse de los buenos momentos (y dinero) que brindo está historia y que en vez de seguir creando contenido de calidad, al final solo crean momentos forzados que no son para nada divertidos; creo que ese tipo de sobreexposición o alargamiento de esta serie y otras más fue lo que me hizo alejarme de las series cómicas (sitcom) y me hizo enfocarme en otro tipo de humor y otras producciones.

In 1998 when "That '70s Show" premiered I found a funny story about a group of friends experiencing life in a very funny way; the first seasons were so great that they are my favorites, contrary to the last ones which I don't remember very well because to be honest, they are extremely bad and unfortunately these series when they get so much fame, it seems that it clouds not only the main actors, but also their creators who only want to take advantage of the good moments (and money) that this story gave them and instead of continuing creating quality content, in the end they only create forced moments that are not funny at all; I think that kind of overexposure or stretching of this series and others was what made me move away from sitcom and made me focus on other types of humor and other productions.
Al momento de saber que se estaba produciendo una secuela de "That '70s Show" pensé que no sería una buena idea la cual sentí que estaba en lo correcto al ver el trailer promocional a finales del pasado año la cual anunciaban su próximo estreno; sé que este pensamiento lo compartí con muchas otras personas que son fieles seguidores de la serie porque sentí que no había ninguna necesidad de relatar una historia más sobre estos personajes, pero al momento de estrenarse me sorprendió de leer varias opiniones de personas que si les gustó esta nueva serie enfocada 15 años después que finalizó esa historia de "Eric Forman" con todos sus amigos. En "That '90s Show" veremos nuevamente a la casa de los Forman en Point Place, Wisconsin, pero en el comienzo del verano de 1995, cuando Eric y Donna al visitar a Kitty y Red, decidan dejar a su hija de 14, a "Leia Forman"; está decisión le pondrá fin a los tiempos de tranquilidad en el hogar de Red, cuando su joven nieta consiga a nuevos amigos con los que podrá experimentar su juventud tomando tontas y divertidas decisiones desde el famoso sótano de ese hogar.
When I heard that a sequel to "That '70s Show" was being produced I thought it would not be a good idea which I felt I was right when I saw the promotional trailer late last year announcing its upcoming release; I know I shared this thought with many other people who are loyal fans of the series because I felt there was no need to tell one more story about these characters, but when it premiered I was surprised to read several opinions of people who did like this new series focused 15 years after the end of that story of "Eric Forman" with all his friends. In "That '90s Show" we will see again the Forman's house in Point Place, Wisconsin, but in the beginning of the summer of 1995, when Eric and Donna visiting Kitty and Red, decide to leave their 14 year old daughter, "Leia Forman"; this decision will put an end to the quiet times in Red's home, when his young granddaughter gets new friends with whom she can experience her youth making silly and funny decisions from the famous basement of that home.
No hay duda de que en los últimos años, producciones televisivas y cinematográficas han usado a la nostalgia como una arma para captar nuevamente la atención tanto de fieles fans de ciertas historias y que ahora estos atraigan a nuevos; esto es algo que puede funcionar o no y son riesgos que al final toda producción debe lidiar antes de su estreno aunque claro todo dependerá de que tan famosa o especial era la historia original de al cual está nueva está basada; justamente eso era lo que en lo personal me hacía sentir indiferente de ver esta nueva serie, pero como dije anteriormente, la nostalgia es algo poderoso y creo que en esta oportunidad sirve que se une la necesidad de ver nuevamente a estos personajes y de como se puede desenvolver en una época como los 90'.
Como el referente es una serie de ocho temporadas que fue un total éxito y lanzo exitosamente la carrera de varios de sus protagonistas, creo que no había manera de hacer o realizar cambios en como filmar, escribir y producir esta nueva serie; puede con esto decir que es una copia y sí que lo es, pero el asunto está en que no necesita ocultarlo porque lo primordial es que los fans, quienes vieron la serie original puedan hacer referencia de lo viejo con lo nuevo y es que para ser sincero, no hay manera de diferenciar algo porque es simplemente lo mismo; esto podrá ser bueno o malo, pero si Netflix y los creadores de esta nueva producción quieren explotar la nostalgia de los fieles fans, entonces hicieron un fácil y simple trabajo.
There is no doubt that in recent years, television and film productions have used nostalgia as a weapon to capture the attention of both loyal fans of certain stories and now attract new ones; this is something that can work or not and are risks that ultimately every production must deal with before its release, although of course everything will depend on how famous or special was the original story on which this new one is based; that was exactly what personally made me feel indifferent to see this new series, but as I said before, nostalgia is a powerful thing and I think that in this opportunity it serves the need to see again these characters and how they can develop in a time like the 90's.
As the referent is a series of eight seasons that was a total success and successfully launched the career of several of its protagonists, I think there was no way to make or make changes in how to film, write and produce this new series; You can say with this that it is a copy and yes it is, but the point is that it does not need to hide it because the main thing is that the fans, those who saw the original series can make reference of the old with the new and to be honest, there is no way to differentiate something because it is simply the same; this may be good or bad, but if Netflix and the creators of this new production want to exploit the nostalgia of the loyal fans, then they did an easy and simple job.
Ahora, toda la parte de escenografía, la manera de filmar las escenas, la edición, la música, todo eso está cubierto siendo en realidad lo más fácil y solo falta algo que en realidad conecte a los fans y haga que exista nuevos (lo cual pienso que es lo más importante); me refiero a los nuevos personajes o quienes protagonizan está historia; esto es lo que puede hacer de que está producción sea o no un éxito y por eso seré lo más crítico posible; primero que nada y a pesar de la imposible comparación, no pienso que unos personajes superen a los de la serie original y creo que esa idea la practicó quienes crearon la nueva historia, por eso en varios episodios podemos ver cómo invitados a los antiguos protagonistas; ahora los nuevos en varios momentos parece que no tienen la presión de ser mejores y eso me gustó, en especial de Callie Haverda quien interpreta a "Leia Forman" hija de "Eric" y "Donna", nieta de "Katty" y "Red"; la decisión de que la descendiente de los Forman y Pinciotti sea una chica fue muy acertada; esto lo digo porque Leia es diferente a su padre y madre, ya que ellos de una manera u otra tenían algo que ella no tiene y eso son amigos y es por eso que en esta temporada pueda descubrir y obtener eso me pareció bien, es algo acertado; lo otro es su actuación la cual es muy buena, correcta, no busca en ningún momento imitar a nadie e implementa un estilo propio de su personaje. Ahora, con respecto a los demás, el personaje que más me ha gustado es "Nate" interpretado por Maxwell Acee Donovan posiblemente el tonto del grupo, es divertido y es de los nuevos el que más me ha hecho reír junto a Ozzie, interpretado por Reyn Doi, el cual siempre con su actitud mordaz parece tener la frase correcta a todo; con la respecto a los demás, son correctos personajes, son sencillos y que espero en un futuro tengan más protagonismo.
Now, all the set design, the way of filming the scenes, the editing, the music, all that is covered being in fact the easiest thing and there is only missing something that really connects the fans and makes new ones exist (which I think is the most important thing); I mean the new characters or who are the main characters of this story; this is what can make this production a success or not and that's why I will be as critical as possible; first of all and in spite of the impossible comparison, I don't think that some characters surpass those of the original series and I think that this idea was practiced by those who created the new story, that's why in several episodes we can see how they invited the old protagonists; now the new ones in several moments seem not to have the pressure to be better and I liked that, specially Callie Haverda who plays "Leia Forman" daughter of "Eric" and "Donna", granddaughter of "Katty" and "Red"; the decision that the descendant of the Forman and Pinciotti is a girl was very successful; I say this because Leia is different from her father and mother, since they in one way or another had something that she does not have and that is friends and that is why in this season she can discover and get that I thought it was good, it is something right; the other thing is her performance which is very good, correct, does not seek at any time to imitate anyone and implements a style of her own character. Now, with respect to the others, the character that I liked the most is "Nate" played by Maxwell Acee Donovan, possibly the dumbest of the group, he is funny and is the one that made me laugh the most together with Ozzie, played by Reyn Doi, who always with his biting attitude seems to have the right phrase to everything; with respect to the others, they are correct characters, they are simple and I hope in the future they will have more prominence.
Esta primera temporada la vi con cero expectativas aunque con algo de curiosidad por las opiniones positivas que leí hace poco; disfrute de ver los solamente 10 episodios y eso me pareció perfecto, no trata de extender nada y cada episodio puede mostrar una continuidad y eso es perfecto para esta historia que se agarra fuertemente de la fama de su predecesora; eso hasta la hace más fácil de captar y que pueda seguir desarrollando hasta que Netflix decida que hacer con esta serie y espero que obtenga una segunda temporada en la cual creo que existirá una dura prueba para saber que tanto puede hacer mejor esta parte de la historia que por los momentos en mi opinión la están haciendo bien porque al dividirla en una parte enfocada a la experiencia de una chica sobre su adolescencia y al revivir las experiencias de Kitty y Red cómo abuelos, enfrentar situaciones parecidas, pero desde otro punto de vista; eso es genial. Originalmente, la serie "That '70s Show" nunca la tome como un Coming-of-Age, pero en esta oportunidad sí, y es que creo que al estar enfocada en mediados de los 90' sus creadores no solamente se valen de la nostalgia de la serie original sino de otras muy famosas y le imponen algo de eso a esta nueva producción y posiblemente sea eso lo que pueda mantenerla a flote.
I watched this first season with zero expectations although with some curiosity because of the positive opinions I read recently; I enjoyed watching the only 10 episodes and that seemed perfect to me, it doesn't try to extend anything and each episode can show a continuity and that's perfect for this story that is holding on tightly to the fame of its predecessor; that even makes it easier to grasp and that it can continue to develop until Netflix decides what to do with this series and I hope it gets a second season in which I think there will be a tough test to know how much better it can make this part of the story that for the moments in my opinion they are doing it well because by dividing it into a part focused on the experience of a girl about her adolescence and reliving the experiences of Kitty and Red as grandparents, facing similar situations, but from another point of view; that's great. Originally, the series "That '70s Show" never took it as a Coming-of-Age, but this time it is, and I think that being focused on the mid 90's, its creators not only use the nostalgia of the original series but of other very famous ones and impose some of that to this new production and possibly that's what can keep it afloat.
