El terror debe ser el género dentro del mundo del cine que más confunde al público; La existencia de muchos subgéneros puede ser un gran factor de que esto suceda porque ahora cada vez más tenemos thriller psicológico con matices de terror, historia de maldiciones, espíritus, sectas, asesinos en serie y slashers, seguramente hay muchos más porque a esto le suman, ciencia-ficción, humor negro, acción y drama; también está una sección más directa en dónde solo se enfoca en escenas estilo "Jumpscare"; muchos géneros, muchos diferentes tipos de historia que podrán cumplir o no con asustar a quien las ve, pero al final todas estas películas entran en el gran género el cual es el terror; esto es algo que cada quien puede entender y hasta prepararse al ver un film, ya que como siempre he dicho, lo que arruina o exacerba la apreciación de ver un film son las expectativas que cada quien hace, por eso siempre recomiendo que al ver un film sea de terror o de cualquier género, debemos tener nuestras expectativas bajas.

Horror must be the genre within the world of cinema that most confuses the public; The existence of many sub-genres can be a big factor of this happening because now more and more we have psychological thrillers with shades of horror, stories of curses, spirits, cults, serial killers and slashers, surely there are many more because to this they add, science fiction, black humor, action and drama; there is also a more direct section where only focuses on scenes style "Jumpscare"; many genres, many different types of stories that may or may not scare the viewer, but in the end all these films fall into the great genre which is horror; this is something that everyone can understand and even prepare to see a film, because as I have always said, what ruins or exacerbates the appreciation of watching a film are the expectations that each person makes, so I always recommend that when watching a film is horror or any genre, we must have our expectations low.
En los primeros meses del año se han estrenado varios films de terror de los cuales he visto poco, pero pienso en revertir esa situación y comencé con uno de los films que se volvió un sorpresivo éxito, fue tanto lo llamativo de esta película que hasta creo un tipo de debate sobre si daba miedo o no y siendo justo, creo que eso me terminó de impulsar al ver esta película basada en una historia corta escrita por Joe Hill, hijo de nada más y nada menos que Stephen King; con estas importantes características, pero con pocas expectativas y conocimiento sobre su historia, vi "The Black Phone"; en esta historia basada en finales de los 70' veremos un suburbio de Denver en cada vez más aumenta los afiches con imágenes de niños perdidos; este horrible misterio a pesar de ser algo muy presente parece no tener ningún tipo de acción para su pronta solución, ya que cada familia sigue lidiando con sus vidas cotidianas, pero el temor o preocupación que parece no tener los adultos, si lo viven los niños y adolescentes, uno de ellos es "Finney", un chico de 13 años que es inteligente, muy estudioso, le gusta el béisbol y está obsesionado con los cohetes; él junto a su hermana, "Gwen", seguramente les gustaría tener una vida mejor, ya que solo tienen una gran hermandad entre ellos desde el momento que perdieron a su madre; un día cuando todo parece normal, Finney desaparece sin dejar ninguna pista y solo esa unión entre Gwen y su hermano será lo que posiblemente pueda ayudar a Finney de salvarse de su raptor.
In the first months of the year several horror films have been released of which I have seen little, but I think about reversing that situation and I started with one of the films that became a surprise success, it was so striking of this film that even created a kind of debate about whether it was scary or not and being fair, I think that ended up pushing me to see this film based on a short story written by Joe Hill, son of none other than Stephen King; with these important characteristics, but with few expectations and knowledge about his story, I watched "The Black Phone_; in this story based in the late 70's we will see a Denver suburb where more and more posters with images of missing children are increasing; this horrible mystery despite being something very present seems not to have any kind of action for its prompt solution, as each family continues to deal with their daily lives, but the fear or concern that seems not to have adults, if the children and adolescents live it, one of them is "Finney", a 13 year old boy who is smart, very studious, likes baseball and is obsessed with rockets; He and his sister, "Gwen", would surely like to have a better life, since they only have a great brotherhood between them since the moment they lost their mother; one day when everything seems normal, Finney disappears without leaving any clue and only that union between Gwen and her brother will be what can possibly help Finney to save himself from his kidnapper.
Con este film puse en uso todo lo que desde ahora en adelante hago con películas que realmente quiero ver; vi un solo trailer, no vi ningún teaser, ninguna entrevista y creo que breves opiniones cuando se levanta el embargo a los críticos que en anterioridad vieron el film; no quería que nada arruinara la experiencia de ver esta historia y creo que por eso también decidí dar un tiempo no solo en verla, sino en realizar esta reseña. Este film fue dirigido por Scott Derrickson del cual he visto películas que consideradas como exitosas y otras no; entre las que me han gustado está "The Exorcism of Emily Rose" y "Sinister", dos películas de terror en dónde una es considerada como de las mejores del género en los últimos años; después de un breve paso por el MCU, Derrickson regresa con una historia simple, enfocada en un hombre malo e inocentes víctimas; su trabajo en la dirección es excepcional porque crea el ambiente necesario para llevar al público a la época en dónde se desarrolla la historia; me gusta que no solamente usas tomas para identificar, bebidas, comida, show de TV referentes a esa época sino el filtro en muchas escenas que le da un aspecto viejo; lo otro que me pareció genial son las escenas que se lleva a cabo en el lugar donde Finney está raptado, tiene una sensación de ser una obra teatral y pienso que eso ayuda mucho a la interacción de este personaje con todo lo demás que debe experimentar; creo que cuando Derrickson está en este género se nota la libertad y que disfruta de su trabajo.
With this film I put into use everything that from now on I do with movies that I really want to see; I saw only one trailer, I didn't see any teaser, no interviews and I think brief opinions when the embargo is lifted to critics who previously saw the film; I didn't want anything to ruin the experience of seeing this story and I think that's why I also decided to give some time not only to see it, but also to make this review. This film was directed by Scott Derrickson of whom I have seen films that are considered successful and others not; among the ones I have liked is "The Exorcism of Emily Rose" and "Sinister", two horror films where one is considered one of the best of the genre in recent years; after a brief stint in the MCU, Derrickson returns with a simple story, focused on an evil man and innocent victims; his directing is exceptional because he creates the necessary atmosphere to take the audience to the era where the story takes place; I like that not only you use shots to identify, drinks, food, TV show referring to that era but the filter in many scenes that gives it an old look; the other thing that I found great are the scenes that takes place in the place where Finney is kidnapped, it has a feeling of being a theatrical play and I think that helps a lot to the interaction of this character with everything else he must experience; I think that when Derrickson is in this genre you notice the freedom and that he enjoys his work.
Está historia es un Coming-of-Age/Terror y eso me ha parecido genial; el guion escrito por Derrickson y C. Robert Cargill de la historia creada en el 2004 por Joe Hill, es excelente; la historia tiene un desarrollo especial porque se toma el tiempo justamente de relatar las historias no solo de los protagonistas, sino de algunas de las víctimas, esto es algo muy importante para este film porque es en base lo que la convierte en un "Coming-of-Age", pero eso no quiere decir que se enfoque más en eso que en la parte del terror porque en mi opinión, todo lo referente a lo que sucede a estos chicos es algo sumamente real, porque ha sucedido, hay historias de asesinos reales que seguramente influenciaron al desarrollo de quién es "The Grabber", pero aparte de lo real, también está la parte sobrenatural y la influencia de Stephen King con su gran historia como es "IT"; es imposible no ver las muchas referencias a historias reales y el uso de lo sobrenatural para conseguir una respuesta del porqué suceden estos horrorosos hechos.
This story is a Coming-of-Age/Terror and I thought that was great; the script written by Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill from the story created in 2004 by Joe Hill, is excellent; the story has a special development because it takes the time to tell the stories not only of the protagonists, but also of some of the victims, this is something very important for this film because it is the basis of what makes it a "Coming-of-Age", but that does not mean that it focuses more on that than on the horror part because in my opinion, everything about what happens in the film is very important, everything about what happens to these guys is something extremely real, because it has happened, there are stories of real killers that surely influenced the development of who is "The Grabber", but apart from the real, there is also the supernatural part and the influence of Stephen King with his great story like "IT"; it is impossible not to see the many references to real stories and the use of the supernatural to get an answer as to why these horrific events happen.
Los jóvenes protagonistas son de lo mejor del film; Mason Thames y Madeleine McGraw son excelentes, la química que existe entre ellos es especial y me hace verlos como dos comprometidos hermanos que se apoyan incondicionalmente; el lazo entre ambos es impresionante; ahora la actuación de cada uno como "Finney" y "Gwen" también es buena; Masón sabe interpretar a un chico con miedo, pero también valiente; es valiente en soñar querer algo mejor, en ayudar a su hermana y en ser un gran amigo; pero es miedoso a lo que debe tener miedo cada niño, miedo al Bullying, películas de terror, miedo a ser una víctima, este actor demuestra en una simple actuación todos eso; ahora la actuacion de McGraw sí que fue excelente, uno de mis personajes favoritos de este 2022; gran protagonista, gran actuación, esta chica es valiente, fuerte, muy fuerte, divertida y decidida; yo tomo a este personaje como una versión que se aprecia de las "Final Girl" en las secuelas, ella es lo sumamente valiente para enfrentar cualquier cosa, no le tiene miedo a nada. No quiero terminar este párrafo sin referirme el trabajo que realizó Ethan Hawke; en algún momento leí que este actor fue menospreciado por su poca participación y solo pude pensar que las personas que piensen de esa manera no disfrutaron o prestaron atención al film; en mi opinión en cada escena este actor es perfecto, las diferentes facetas que muestra de su personaje son terroríficas y seguramente hubo una que si la hubieran decidido de mostrar tal vez crearía más impacto de lo que causó; Hawke es un gran actor y se percibe en cualquier momento que está en escena porque se adueña de la escena y más cuando debe compartirla con un actor joven; es sin duda un gran trabajo.
The young leads are some of the best in the film; Mason Thames and Madeleine McGraw are excellent, the chemistry between them is special and makes me see them as two committed siblings who support each other unconditionally; the bond between them is impressive; now the acting of each as "Finney" and "Gwen" is also good; Mason knows how to play a scared boy, but also brave; he is brave in dreaming to want something better, in helping his sister and in being a great friend; but he is fearful of what every kid should be afraid of, fear of Bullying, horror movies, fear of being a victim, this actor shows in a simple performance all that; now the performance of McGraw yes it was excellent, one of my favorite characters of this 2022; great protagonist, great acting, this girl is brave, strong, very strong, funny and determined; I take this character as a version that is appreciated of the "Final Girl" in the sequels, she is brave enough to face anything, she is not afraid of anything. I don't want to finish this paragraph without referring to the work done by Ethan Hawke; at some point I read that this actor was underrated for his little participation and I could only think that people who think that way didn't enjoy or pay attention to the film; in my opinion in every scene this actor is perfect, the different facets he shows of his character are terrifying and surely there was one that if they had decided to show it maybe it would create more impact than what it caused; Hawke is a great actor and it is perceived at any time he is on stage because he owns the scene and more when he must share it with a young actor; it is undoubtedly a great job.
The Black Phone es una de las mejores películas que he visto en este año y me alegró que en realidad sea tan buena como leí en breves opiniones; pensó que tiene un excelente guion y gran historia la cual nos brinda lo necesario para entender en parte que sucede y a la vez crear algún tipo de teorías de lo que puede suceder en una posible secuela; creo que justamente eso es uno de los puntos positivos de este film que no está pensado como en una franquicia aunque tiene un gran potencial de serlo, pero a enfocarse en una sola historia se libera de ese peso de ser un obligatorio éxito y ahora que lo es puede dar tranquilidad (en parte) a Derrickson y Hill para desarrollar aún más está historia. Este film no necesita de un espíritu demoníaco o de varias escenas de un hombre cortando en pedazos a sus víctimas, está historia tiene un desarrollo diferente, algo que contar y por eso el peso de las víctimas es importante en cada uno de sus relatos; me parece excelente que se haya enfocado en una época en dónde cualquiera puede convertirse en una víctima y nadie notarlo o no querer notarlo, eso para mí es terror porque es algo real y es que al ver esta película recordé a la obligada confianza que mis padres tuvieron en mí para yo ir a temprana edad a la escuela por mi mismo, ir y regresar; nunca vi en ellos preocupación aunque seguramente si la tenían y creo que la inocencia que tenemos funciona de esa manera, nos dan una responsabilidad, creemos que tenemos la edad suficiente para aceptarla y percibimos importancia sin tener una noción de los peligros que podemos encontrarnos y creo que eso es en parte lo que este film es y para mí eso es terror.
The Black Phone is one of the best movies I have seen this year and I was glad that it is really as good as I read in brief opinions; I thought it has an excellent script and great story which gives us what we need to understand in part what happens and at the same time create some kind of theories of what can happen in a possible sequel; I think that's one of the positive points of this film that is not thought of as a franchise although it has a great potential to be one, but by focusing on a single story it frees itself from the burden of being an obligatory success and now that it is it can give peace of mind (in part) to Derrickson and Hill to develop this story even more. This film does not need a demonic spirit or several scenes of a man cutting his victims into pieces, this story has a different development, something to tell and that is why the weight of the victims is important in each of its stories; I think it is excellent that it has focused on a time where anyone can become a victim and nobody notices it or does not want to notice it, that for me is terror because it is something real and when I saw this film I remembered the forced confidence that my parents had in me to go to school by myself at an early age, go and come back; I never saw in them concern although they surely had it and I think the innocence we have works that way, they give us a responsibility, we believe we are old enough to accept it and we perceive importance without having a notion of the dangers we can encounter and I think that is partly what this film is and for me that is terror.
