"I don't know how the war started. Maybe all that matters is how it ends..."

El último film animado de Netflix relata la historia de un mundo en dónde la existencia de criaturas monstruosas marinas ha puesto en peligro por años la paz de los humanos que habitan en islas y costas, esto ha creado una guerra entre estas gigantescas criaturas y los llamados "Cazadores de Monstruos", pero se ha vuelto una guerra dispar, ya que cada vez es menor la existencia de quienes han decidido arriesgar sus vidas para convertirse en héroes eternos; justamente en una de las pocas embarcaciones que quedan en el mar haciendo frente a estos poderosos monstruos, está conformada por sobrevivientes de letales ataques y en ellos está el hacer lo imposible por acabar con toda quien sea una amenaza para la humanidad en especial el llamado "Red Bluster" que se ha vuelto una obsesión para el Capitán Crow y toda la tripulación de "El Inevitable", pero un día en un gran enfrentamiento entre Crow y Bluster, una niña y un cazador formarán un nuevo lado entre esta guerra, uno que tal vez sea la única solución para poner fin a una guerra que ha tomado un gran número de vidas.

Este film es dirigido por Chris Williams quien junto a Nell Benjamin escribieron el guion; Williams es alguien que ha estado muy unido a lo que es el mundo de la animación dentro del cine, películas como Bolt, Big Hero 6 y Moana ha contado con su trabajo, sea como director, guionista y productor; en esta oportunidad toda su experiencia la transmite en un film en dónde su historia se desarrolla en el mar y en dónde claramente tendrá la facilidad de enfocarse en su historia más que en muchas escenas de acción y comedia. La manera de enseñar cada acto de este film es excelente, se enfoca en mostrar muchas escenas de acción en lo que es su primer acto, dando relevancia a la historia de guerra entre Monstruos y Humanos, escenas divertidas y llenas de aventuras que tendrán una pausa para desarrollar ahora a los protagonistas y mostrar el diseño de los monstruos marinos el cual me gustaron los de las primeras escenas y en parte el llamado Red Bluster.

This film is directed by Chris Williams who along with Nell Benjamin wrote the screenplay; Williams is someone who has been very close to the world of animation in cinema, films like Bolt, Big Hero 6 and Moana have counted with his work, either as director, screenwriter and producer; In this opportunity he transmits all his experience in a film where his story takes place in the sea and where he will clearly have the facility to focus on his story rather than in many scenes of action and comedy. The way of showing each act of this film is excellent, he focuses on showing many action scenes in what is his first act, giving relevance to the story of war between Monsters and Humans, fun scenes and full of adventures that will have a pause to develop now the protagonists and show the design of the sea monsters which I liked the first scenes and partly the one called Red Bluster.

 La historia es lo que más me ha gustado; la influencia de "Moby-Dick" y "Frankenstein" es algo muy notable y eso es bueno porque en esta película todo el tema de juzgar, la persecución creada por la ignorancia y el mal uso de la información y hasta fanatismo, es clave en gran parte del film; ahora esto no es algo que se nota todo al mismo tiempo, ya que el desarrollo es fundamental y cada suceso o cada visión de los diferentes personajes es fundamental y eso hace que sea muy atractiva de ver; creo que a pesar de la fantasia y enfocarse en una época antigua es una historia muy actual en dónde existe el aspecto generacional, esto justamente es algo que encaja muy bien en esta historia donde la existencia de criaturas monstruosas puede crear miedo en un parte de la población, pero es atraída por otras que busca una mejor manera para poder entender la situación en dónde se deba coexistir o enfrentar. Otra influencia es las grandes historias de piratas y demás embarcaciones en donde todo tiene que ver con el honor, la hermandad, los peligros que deben enfrentar en el mar, es algo que me gusta y en esta película, sin duda de que fue un guion bien desarrollado en dónde cada personaje es importante mostrando siempre su punto de vista.

The story is what I liked the most; the influence of "Moby-Dick" and "Frankenstein" is something very noticeable and that's good because in this film the whole theme of judging, the persecution created by ignorance and misuse of information and even fanaticism, is key in much of the film; now this is not something that is noticed all at once, since the development is fundamental and each event or each vision of the different characters is fundamental and that makes it very attractive to see; I think that despite the fantasy and focus on an ancient era is a very current story where there is the generational aspect, this is something that fits very well in this story where the existence of monstrous creatures can create fear in a part of the population, but is attracted by others who seek a better way to understand the situation where they must coexist or face. Another influence is the great stories of pirates and other ships where everything has to do with honor, brotherhood, the dangers they must face at sea, is something I like and in this film, no doubt it was a well developed script where each character is important always showing their point of view.

La animación en muchos aspectos es resaltante, por ejemplo me gustó mucho el diseño de "El Inevitable" el barco tiene la sensación de ser otra criatura monstruosa del mar, es como si uno de los monstruos traiciona a su especie y ayuda a los humanos en su cacería, me pareció genial; otro gran diseño es el del Capitán Crow, es lo más intimidante que existe, me gustó su personaje en dónde el tormento del deber es el gran motivo de seguir cazando a un gran rival que en anteriores batallas le quitó algo, pero eso no evita de cumplir su cometido, pasar a la historia como el cazador del Red Bluster, pienso que es muy valiente, pero a la vez vive con un gran miedo que lo transforma en lo que más odia; otro personaje que el diseño es especial es el de la pequeña "Maisie" su piel, sonrisa, ojos y cabello es un gran trabajo del equipo encargado de la animación, el cual es Sony Pictures Imageworks; otro gran diseño es del "Jacob" que cumple con el estereotipo del héroe, valiente, audaz y amigable; entre los tres personajes que he nombrado tienen una razón importante en su diseño, en su aspecto y actitud, son los mejores; ahora con respecto a las criaturas marinas, creo que es donde tengo un inconveniente, los diseños son repetitivos y es difícil no compararlos con otras criaturas que aparecieron en otros films, me hubiera gustado mostrar originalidad y un mejor diseño para Red Bluster aunque seguramente por la influencia de Moby-Dick, era justo dar esa imagen a este personaje, pero creo que pudo ser mejor.

The animation in many aspects is outstanding, for example I really liked the design of "The Inevitable" the ship has the feeling of being another monstrous creature of the sea, it is as if one of the monsters betrays his species and helps humans in their hunt, I thought it was great; Another great design is that of Captain Crow, he is the most intimidating thing that exists, I liked his character where the torment of duty is the great reason to continue hunting a great rival that in previous battles took something from him, but that does not prevent him from fulfilling his mission, to go down in history as the hunter of the Red Bluster, I think he is very brave, but at the same time he lives with a great fear that transforms him into what he hates the most; another character whose design is special is that of the little "Maisie" her skin, smile, eyes and hair is a great work of the team in charge of the animation, which is Sony Pictures Imageworks; another great design is of "Jacob" who fulfills the stereotype of the hero, brave, bold and friendly; among the three characters that I have named they have an important reason in their design, in their appearance and attitude, they are the best; now with respect to the sea creatures, I think this is where I have a drawback, the designs are repetitive and it is difficult not to compare them with other creatures that appeared in other films, I would have liked to show originality and a better design for Red Bluster although surely because of the influence of Moby-Dick, it was fair to give that image to this character, but I think it could have been better.

Siendo sincero no pensaba ver The Sea Beast, pero como dije al comienzo de la publicación, dos diferentes opiniones sobre este film fue lo que me empujó a ver esta historia; al finalizar de verla entendí por qué al director Guillermo del Toro le gustó y es que es una buena historia de monstruos, unos que la naturaleza los creo y otros que se convirtieron por el miedo, la ignorancia y el odio; seguramente a este director mexicano le hubiera gustado dirigir o estar involucrado en este tipo de historia; ahora con respecto a la otra opinión la cual me creo más intriga es donde señaló a este film animado de Netflix el ser parte de la "Propaganda Woke" que quiere implementar estos servicios de streaming en la sociedad; personalmente no tengo problemas de que una nueva generación no repita errores del pasado y que tenga la opción de buscar la verdad de diferentes hechos; pienso que tal vez el ver a un personaje, a una niña, de piel negra hacer frente a una autoridad y pedir un cambio para detener una guerra que ha cobrado muchas vidas, le pareció algo malo, una intromisión, algo que debería estar prohibido; con esto queda claro que no estoy de acuerdo con la crítica negativa, pero la respeto y eso es porque funcionó, ya que me hizo ver este film el cual no es el mejor ni perfecto, pero es muy entretenido, con gran historia de monstruos, de cambios, de querer una nueva vida, de hacer una propia historia sin venganza ni odio, pienso que eso deja está película en vez de justamente crear un pensamiento negativo sobre su historia.

Being honest I was not planning to see The Sea Beast, but as I said at the beginning of the publication, two different opinions about this film was what pushed me to see this story; when I finished watching it I understood why the director Guillermo del Toro liked it and it is that it is a good story of monsters, some that nature created them and others that became by fear, ignorance and hatred; surely this Mexican director would have liked to direct or be involved in this type of story; now with respect to the other opinion which I find more intriguing is where he pointed to this Netflix animated film to be part of the "Woke Propaganda" that wants to implement these streaming services in society; personally I have no problem with a new generation not repeating past mistakes and having the option to seek the truth of different facts; I think that maybe seeing a character, a girl, with black skin stand up to an authority and ask for a change to stop a war that has claimed many lives, seemed something wrong, an intrusion, something that should be forbidden; with this it is clear that I do not agree with the negative criticism, but I respect it and that is because it worked, since it made me see this film which is not the best or perfect, but it is very entertaining, with a great story of monsters, of changes, of wanting a new life, of making one's own story without revenge or hate, I think that leaves this film instead of just creating a negative thought about its story.
