Reviewing Movies I Don't Like: Jurassic World

Review by @namiks · 3115d · of Jurassic World

Jurassic Park has cemented itself as a truly exceptional film, and one of the best films to have been released in the 90s. Its revolutionary methods of filmmaking through both computer generated special effects and use of robotics changed the way we see things on our screens that we could never otherwise see.

Its dedication to being something truly great and unique is forever evident in its narrative; its love for dinosaurs extends beyond the characters and into the filmmakers themselves. Jurassic Park isn't just a film about dinosaurs, after all, it's about our perception of some of the most dangerous creatures to have ever walked on Earth, yet our blindness in believing we could control them.

For the most part, I was excited for Jurassic World when it was announced, but I was rather sceptical of its quality given the world of reboots is a complete and utter bore. It's unfortunate to say that Jurassic World is one of such reboots, and its attempts to piggyback off the original Jurassic Park films simply fall flat and offer little to no substance to a world we've already seen so much of. It doesn't carry the weight of the originals with its dedication, its lovable characters, and its thrill for dinosaurs.

Instead, we have rather boring characters, that once again with reboots, are given very little time to be introduced, but are introduced mostly through their oh-so-quirky humour. A narrative that is stupidly similar to the originals, with it almost being difficult to call a reboot and not just a remake. And its downright silliness when it comes to cinematic teasing. It carries the familiar pacing of modern cinema, and it is one I despise.

That said, Jurassic World isn't terrible. It's worth watching, but certainly not if you expect another thrill in the universe of Jurassic Park. Consider it an okay-ish fan-fiction with a moderately high budget.

Come on it's not soooo bad. It's got "Blue" the Raptor! Other than that, I more or less agree with you. It could have been a whole lot worse!
