Plot
The anime is set in the old Meiji era, where we are introduced to Himura Kenshin, who in the Bakumatsu era was nationally known as Hitokiri Batōsai of Ishin Shishi due to the enormous amount of murders he has achieved with his sword. However, this is now a simple wanderer who roams around Tokyo and helps people with his sword skills, which is reversed so as not to cause any serious harm to anyone. However, due to the new government that rules these lands, he is always stopped by the authorities because they do not allow the use of swords or any weapon in the middle of the peace era.
One day, he meets a girl named Kamiya Kaoru, who is the current owner of the Kamiya Kassin Ryu dojo. Seeing his skills with the sword, she asks Kenshin to help her defend her area because a criminal is using Hitokiri's title while vandalizing and promoting chaos in her area. He agrees to help her, in exchange for her giving him lodging in her dojo, which lately is empty since it has no students and is in danger of losing it. At a time when peace reigns in ancient Japan, the dark past of this nation and Himura Kenshin will haunt him, while this skilled samurai will be tested multiple times.

To be honest, this is the first time I've seen this anime, considering that I knew it was a remake of the original anime adaptation that came out in the 90s, I didn't know anything else about the work itself before that. However, I was quite fascinated by the work, both for the story and also for the characters and their battles. Among so many action anime I've watched in the past year, this one has been the freshest and most entertaining to watch of the lot. It doesn't have an impressive level of animation, but the quality it has already far surpasses most anime of its genre.
Starting with the characters, Himura Kenshin is a very different protagonist than most in the Shonen genre, with a ready-made story and development that serves as his legacy. However, despite being a very skilled swordsman, he doesn't seek to stand out or be recognized for his accomplishments, not to mention that his past was as dark as it gets from the war in Japan at the time. Nevertheless, he proves to be a kind and compassionate character who seeks to help others and serve as a protector and mysterious hero to the people. Without a doubt, this protagonist is one of the best I have encountered to date.

The enemies we see in this anime are also very well done as they start from being the consequence of the darkest era of Japan, with airs of revenge, hatred and power as they fight and demonstrate their superiority in a different way than most villains of this genre. Another interesting thing is how they tell us key details of that era, as well as traditions and teachings that applied a lot. In this anime we get to know a very secretive ancient Japan that is very close to what it really became at the time.
Finally, let's talk about the battles we see in this anime, which have a reason and a meaning. The confrontations here have a purpose and a goal, as do the times we see the protagonist wield his sword. And while it's true that the story always ends up revolving around this great samurai, the other main characters also get a bit of that spotlight as we get to know their stories and see their growth. It is no wonder that nowadays this anime is remembered as one of the best of its time, as it is not only a story of action and drama, but it also teaches us several lessons such as honor and the value of things.
Personally, I give it a rating of 8.5/10 as far as the action, adventure and drama genre is concerned.

Los enemigos que vemos en este anime están también muy bien hechos ya que parten de ser la consecuencia de la era más oscura de Japón, con aires de venganza, odio y poder mientras luchan y demuestran su superioridad de una forma distinta al de la mayoría de villanos de este género. Otra cosa interesante es cómo nos cuentan detalles clave de aquella época, así como también tradiciones y enseñanzas que se aplicaban mucho. En este anime podemos conocer a una Japón antigua muy reservada y muy cercana a lo que realmente llegó a ser en su momento.
Al final, hablemos de las batallas que vemos en este anime, las cuales tienen una razón y un sentido. Los enfrentamientos que hay aquí tienen un propósito y un objetivo, así como también las veces en las que vemos al protagonista empuñar su espada. Y si bien es cierto que la historia siempre termina girando entre este gran samurái, los demás personajes principales también consiguen un poco de ese protagonismo a la vez que conocemos sus historias y vemos su crecimiento. No es de extrañar que actualmente este anime sea recordado como uno de los mejores de su época, ya que no solo es una historia de acción y drama, sino que también nos enseña varias lecciones como el honor y el valor de las cosas.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 8.5/10 en lo que respecta al género de acción, aventura y drama.
