Hello, anime fans. Tonight we’re back with another review of a rather unique anime in the comedy and romance genre. It’s one of the few romance animes aimed at teenage girls that really caught my attention, not only because of its animation but also because of its premise. Based on the manga series of the same name written and illustrated by Yuki Shiwasu, Tamon’s B-Side is an animated adaptation produced by the studio J.C.Staff. Es uno de los pocos animes de romance dedicado para mujeres adolescentes que me llamó mucho la atención, no solo por su animación, sino también por su premisa. Basada en la serie de manga homónima escrita e ilustrada por Yuki Shiwasu, Tamon’s B-Side es una adaptación animada producida por el estudio J.C.Staff. Plot
The anime begins by showing us a concert by a J-Pop band made up of five male Idols called F/ACE. Then we see the focus shift to the pink-haired boy in the middle, who is supposedly the group’s leader, Tamon Fukuhara. At the end of the song they’re singing and dancing to, the scene shifts to the living room of our protagonist’s house, where she’s watching the TV screen in awe while cheering and praising Tamon, her favorite idol in the band. However, our protagonist, Utage Kinoshita, is much more than just a fan.

Well, here we are again, talking about romance, love, and all those topics that are cloying enough for anyone. It seems that in recent months I’ve developed a certain affinity for some shōjo anime (anime aimed at teenage girls), but that’s what happens when you get bored of always watching the same generic RomCom and shōnen anime (anime aimed at teenage boys). And it’s a fact that these days there’s a never-ending stream of generic and boring RomCom anime every season.
That’s why Tamon’s B-Side really caught my attention earlier this year—it stood out from most RomCom anime thanks to a pretty interesting premise and character development. You could even say it stood out among other shōjo romance and comedy anime that aired that same season. But this is due to two main factors: its premise and its excellent animated adaptation. We’ll talk more about the animation later, since it’s a topic that actually makes me a bit annoyed just thinking about it, so let’s start with the first point.
Bueno, volvemos a hablar de romance, amor y todos esos temas suficientemente empalagosos para cualquiera. Tal parece que en estos últimos meses he tenido cierta afinidad con algunos animes shōjo (animes dedicados a mujeres adolescentes), pero es lo que sucede cuando te aburres de ver siempre los típicos animes RomCom y shōnen (animes dedicados a hombres adolescentes) todo genéricos. Y es un hecho que actualmente hay un sin parar de emisiones de animes RomCom genéricos y aburridos cada temporada.
Es por eso que Tamon's B-Side me llamó mucho la atención al principios de este año, porque llegó a destacarse por sobre la mayoría de animes RomCom debido a una premisa y una presentación de personajes bastante interesantes. Se puede decir que incluso llegó a destacarse por sobre otros animes shōjo de romance y comedia que se emitieron también en aquella temporada. Pero esto se debe a dos puntos principales: su premisa y su excelente adaptación animada. Lo de su animación ya lo iremos hablando más adelante ya que es un tema que hasta me da cierta molestia pensarlo, así que empecemos con lo primero.

The premise is simple: a teenage fan who literally worships one of the members of her favorite band suddenly meets the very “god” she adores while working as a housekeeper (part-time, so she can focus on her studies). This unexpected chance encounter leads to a series of events, surprises, and relationships that are somewhat toxic and somewhat unexpected. With this premise, we realize what makes this series so compelling. You don’t have to be a genius to figure out, just by watching the first episode, that the mix of ironic, satirical, and somewhat exaggerated humor is what draws audiences to this anime.
But as I’ve already mentioned, it’s not just the well-crafted and well-adapted humor in this anime that draws people to watch Tamon’s B-Side. It’s also the character development, starting with the protagonist, Utage Kinoshita, who is the perfect embodiment of every obsessive yet reasonable fan out there today. However, the character who really stands out is Tamon Fukuhara, who reveals his true personality when he welcomes Utage into his apartment to work as his housekeeper.
Su premisa es simple: una fanática adolescente que literalmente adora a uno de los miembros de su banda favorita conoce de repente al mismísimo “dios” que adora en su trabajo como empleada doméstica (a tiempo parcial por sus estudios). Este inesperado encuentro fortuito desemboca en una serie de sucesos, sorpresas y relaciones un tanto tóxicas y un tanto inesperadas. Con dicha premisa nos damos cuenta cuál es el punto de interés de esta obra. No hay que ser un genio tampoco para descubrir con solo ver su primer episodio que la mezcla de humor irónico, satírico y un tanto exagerado es lo que atrae al público a ver este anime.
Pero como les dije ya, no es solo su humor tan bien elaborado y adaptado en este anime lo que atrae a la gente a ver Tamon's B-Side. Sino que también lo hace la presentación de sus personajes, empezando por su protagonista, Utage Kinoshita, quien es la representación perfecta de toda fan obsesiva, pero razonable que existe en la actualidad. Sin embargo, el personaje que más llama la atención es Tamon Fukuhara, quien nos demuestra su verdadera personalidad al recibir a Utage en su apartamento por su labor de empleada doméstica.

This rather striking disparity between who he really is and how he appears to the public is the real hook of this anime. While at first we see a cheerful, energetic, and quite positive Tamon with an aura that’s contagious to his audience, in private we later see a completely different Tamon—negative, insecure, and depressed. Although this may seem funny at first (which is exactly what the anime aims to do), we shouldn’t ignore the fact that this pattern—which we’ll see not only with Tamon—can be extrapolated to real life with the “Idols” we know today.
While many come to adore and admire famous figures from film and entertainment, in reality they all hide a true identity that almost always turns out to be quite different from what they actually appear to be on screen. But anyway, the anime doesn’t just focus on this theme of idols and what they’re really hiding; we also see a somewhat unique relationship develop between Utage and Tamon throughout the series. However, don’t get your hopes up about this, since the relationship we see here isn’t like any other relationship in a generic RomCom anime.

Mientras al principio vemos a un Tamon alegre, enérgico y bastante positivo con un aura que contagia a su público; en privado vemos después a un Tamon completamente distinto, negativo, inseguro y depresivo. Si bien esto llega a parecernos gracioso al principio (cosa que busca hacer el anime siempre), no hay que ignorar el hecho de que dicho patrón que no solo veremos con Tamon se puede extrapolar en la vida real con los “Idols” que conocemos en la actualidad.
Mientras muchos llegan a adorar y admirar a figuras famosas del cine y el entretenimiento, en realidad todo ocultan una verdadera identidad que casi siempre resulta ser bastante distinta a la que en realidad aparentan ser en las pantallas. Pero bueno, el anime no solo se centra en este tema de los idols y lo que esconden en realidad, sino que también vemos una relación un tanto particular que vemos desarrollarse entre Utage y Tamon a lo largo de esta serie. Here, we not only learn about the circumstances and background of each member of F/ACE and what Tamon constantly faces due to his self-esteem issues and identity struggles. We’ll also see how a relationship born out of the affection and unconditional support of a fan as unique as Utage turns into something more dependent, obsessive, and even somewhat toxic. So don’t expect the typical clichés of every teen romance anime—like confessions, dates, misunderstandings, and the like.
Here, we’ll see the duality of an idol’s life and how he navigates it with the support of a fan who stands by him no matter what. Issues like public image, the way people idealize a commercially famous figure, and the influence public opinion has on the decisions and path taken by an idol group as unique and troubled as F/ACE. Something I like about this anime—and what makes it more special than any other shōjo-style RomCom I've seen—is the character development.
Aquí no solo conocemos la situación y el trasfondo que viven cada uno de los miembros de F/ACE y lo que Tamon afronta constantemente debido a sus problemas de autoestima y su identidad. También veremos cómo una relación que nace del cariño y apoyo incondicional de una fanática tan particular como lo es Utage se convierte en algo más dependiente, obsesivo y hasta un tanto tóxico. Así que no esperes los típicos clichés de todo anime de romance adolescente como declaraciones, citas, malentendidos y cosas por el estilo.
Aquí veremos cómo es la dualidad de la vida de un ídolo y cómo lo vemos afrontarlo con la compañía de una fan que lo apoya sin importar nada. Problemas como la imagen pública, la idealización de la gente con un personaje comercialmente famoso y la influencia que tiene la opinión pública con las decisiones y el camino que toman una agrupación de ídolos tan particulares y problemáticos como lo son F/ACE. Algo que me gusta de este anime y que lo hace más especial que cualquier otro anime RomCom estilo shōjo que he visto es el desarrollo de los personajes.

Instead of just showing a group of men with romantic interests in the protagonist who suddenly end up with a Harem of men out of nowhere and for no apparent reason, here we see a fairly believable character development for each character. To begin with, we see that from the very first episode, what our Utage feels for Tamon is an incorruptible and unwavering admiration—like when you put your favorite actor or artist on a pedestal as if they were a god or something like that. On the other hand, we notice that Tamon gradually begins to feel something for Utage, but the intentions and desire he develops over time are anything but healthy.
As if that weren’t enough, we also meet the rest of the F/ACE members, each of whom has a distinct personality and a rather marked duality between how they appear to the public and who they really are (with the exception of one in particular, but we know almost nothing about him in this season, which is still in its early stages). But keep in mind, not everyone develops that sense of love and incomprehensible obsession with the protagonist simply because she’s the protagonist or anything like that. Unlike a few others, each member has their own story, dreams, and goals in life, and Utage is the protagonist who manages to help them stay on that path.
En vez de solo mostraron a un grupo de hombres con interés amoroso hacia la protagonista y quien de repente se ganan un Harem de hombres de la nada y sin sentido alguno, aquí notamos un desarrollo bastante creíble en cada personaje. Para empezar, vemos que desde el primer episodio lo que siente nuestra Utage por Tamon es una admiración incorruptible e inalterable, como cuando colocas a tu actor o artista favorito en un pedestal como un dios o algo así. Por otro lado, notamos que Tamon poco a poco llega a sentir algo por Utage, pero las intenciones y el deseo que desarrolla con el tiempo no es para nada sano.
Por si no fuera suficiente, también conocemos al resto de miembros de F/ACE, quienes tienen cada uno una personalidad distinta y una dualidad bastante marcada entre lo que aparentan ser al público y lo que realmente son (exceptuando a uno en particular, pero de él no sabemos casi nada en esta temporada que tenemos apenas). Pero ojo, no todos desarrollan esa sensación de amor y obsesión incomprensible con la protagonista solo por ser la protagonista ni nada por el estilo. A diferencia de uno que otro, cada uno tiene su historia, sus sueños y objetivos en la vida y Utage es aquella protagonista que logra ayudarlos a seguir en ese rumbo.

What I like about this anime is that the series itself gives each character in this group their own time and attention so they can develop, and so we can empathize with each of them in some way. We probably won’t empathize with all of them—and we might even end up hating one or two—but that’s the point: for each character to be distinct in terms of personality, character, thoughts, disposition, attitude, and so on. Here, we don’t see a group of five men who are differentiated solely by the color of their hair—no. This isn’t like most shōjo romance animes with a harem thrown in.
You know, I’m talking about those animes where we see the same old harem of men with the same old repetitive personalities, the same old styles and hairstyles, and almost no character development or originality. While Tamon’s B-Side doesn’t feature visually original characters, their personalities and the way the story gives them the development they need are what make it special. On top of that, the anime is one of the funniest and most entertaining shows of its season thanks to its pacing and sense of humor. It doesn’t rely on the typical absurd or cringy double entendres or Fanservice.
Lo que me gusta de este anime es eso, que la misma serie le da su tiempo y atención a cada personaje de esta banda para que se desarrollen y logremos empatizar de alguna forma con cada uno de ellos. Seguramente no empaticemos con todos y hasta lleguemos a odiar a uno que otro, pero ese es el objetivo, que cada personaje sea distinto en cuanto a personalidad, carácter, pensamientos, forma de ser, actitud, etc. Aquí no vemos a un grupo de cinco hombres que solo los diferencia el color de su cabello nomás, no. Aquí no es como la mayoría de animes de romance shōjo con harem incluido.
Ya saben, hablo de aquellos animes donde vemos al mismo harem de hombres de siempre con las típicas personalidades repetidas de siempre con sus estilos y peinados de siempre y con casi nada de desarrollo y originalidad. Si bien Tamon's B-Side no tiene personajes visualmente originales, sus personalidades y la forma en la que la historia les da ese desarrollo que necesitan es lo que lo hace especial. De resto, el anime llega a ser de lo más gracioso y entretenido que hay de su temporada debido al ritmo que tiene y el humor que maneja. No tiene los típicos chistes absurdos o malos con doble sentido y Fanservice.

Before I get into that, I want to tell you about something that both annoyed and amused me regarding the studio behind this anime adaptation. J.C.Staff is a studio that’s become popular lately thanks to various hit projects, including the adaptation of the 3rd Season of One Punch Man, which ended up being a total fiasco—a complete audiovisual disaster—at the end of last year.
Nada de eso, en cambio tiene es un humor más característico, más visual, un tanto bizarro, pero bastante exagerado. La atención siempre se la llevan tanto Utage como Tamon en la mayoría de episodios, pero los demás personajes que vemos también logran llevarse la atención de la pantalla en cada episodio que aparecen. Y en cuanto al romance que tiene pues podemos decir que no llega a ser tan empalagoso como mencioné al principio. Para ser un anime Shōjo no me pareció tan aburrido o empalagoso como muchos otros animes.
Por último, pero no menos importante, ahora hay que hablar del apartado audiovisual que tiene Tamon’s B-Side. Antes de hablarles de esto quiero contarles lo que me causó molestia y risa al mismo tiempo con respecto al estudio a cargo de esta adaptación animada. J.C.Staff es un estudio que se ha vuelto popular últimamente debido a diversos proyectos populares, entre ellos está la adaptación de la Tercera Temporada de One Punch Man, la cual terminó siendo todo un fiasco, una completa basura audiovisual a finales del año pasado.

After watching one of the biggest audiovisual disappointments of the year and the decade, 2026 kicks off with a new project from this same studio—that’s right, we’re talking about Tamon’s B-Side. The irony—or the joke—here is that its first episode became so popular because of its impressive animation quality, detail, and fluidity, which, in contrast to the studio’s previous work on OPM, caught a lot of people’s attention. This is what I mean when I say that this anime makes me laugh and annoys me at the same time, because it shows us just how talented the studio is at animation.
However, whatever the cause of the fiasco surrounding the 3rd Season of One Punch Man, Tamon’s B-Side manages to offer a level of quality far more remarkable than any other generic RomCom anime aimed at girls. The character designs, the bright and varied color palette, the use of light and shadow, and the excellent level of detail and drawing and animation styles are outstanding. The visual effects look fascinating, and even the CGI—which they use very sparingly—isn’t half bad. The sound effects are fine, but they don’t hold a candle to this anime’s excellent soundtrack.
Personally, I give it a 9/10 rating in terms of the comedy and romance genres.

Los efectos visuales se ven fascinantes y hasta el CGI que muy poco usan tampoco está tan mal. Los efectos de sonido están bien, pero no se compran en nada con la excelente banda sonora que tiene este anime.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 9/10 en lo que respecta al género de comedia y romance.
