Es otro de esos animes que pasan desapercibidos por lo particulares que son. En esta ocasión veremos una curiosa mezcla de terror gótico con fantasía oscura, misterio y comedia que puede llegar a interesarle a más de uno. Plot
The anime begins by introducing us to a young man named Louis Hartmann, who is with his father, a well-known private detective in their city. The next day, Louis receives the news that his father has died a horrible death. For a moment, he thinks a vampire was to blame, but as his own father taught him long ago, supernatural beings do not exist. Our young detective decides to solve the case of his father’s death on his own. However, a group of young people arrives in town calling themselves The Arne Detective Agency, and they, too, have come to solve this strange case.

El anime inicia mostrándonos a un joven llamado Louis Hartmann quien está junto con su padre, un detective privado muy conocido en su ciudad. It’s been a long time since I’ve shared an anime like this with you, so for a change of pace, I decided to review this particular series because I really enjoyed it when it aired. It’s an intriguing mix of different genres that works in a rather unique way. Without exaggerating at all, this anime features gothic horror, dark fantasy, mystery, adventure, drama, and even comedy. Yes, it’s an absolutely mind-blowing mix, but it doesn’t fall apart thanks to its plot. That said, the plot isn’t particularly dense or deep—quite the opposite, in fact.
The anime gets off to an interesting start as it introduces us to the protagonists of this dark and mysterious story. We meet the members of The Arne Detective Agency, which consists of the owner, Arne Neuntöte—who, by the way, is a vampire—a blonde girl named Lynn Reinweiß, a girl dressed as a maid who looks like a zombie named Amy, a talking stuffed animal named Nachzehrer, and a mirror with a floating child inside named Zisye. Yeah, it’s a very unusual team, if you ask me, but I bet that’s what gives this story its flavor.
Ya llevaba mucho tiempo sin traerles un anime de este estilo, así que para variar un poco decidí hacerle una reseña a esta serie en particular debido a que me entretuve bastante cuando la vi en emisión. Es una mezcla curiosa de diferentes géneros que funciona de una forma un tanto particular. Sin exagerar en lo absoluto, este anime posee terror gótico, fantasía oscura, misterio, aventura, drama y hasta comedia. Si, es una mezcla absolutamente alucinante, pero que tampoco queda tan mal debido a la trama que tiene. Que tampoco es una trama tan densa o profunda, sino todo lo contrario.
El anime tiene un inicio interesante ya que nos presenta a los protagonistas de esta oscura y misteriosa historia. Conocemos a los miembros de La Agencia de Detectives Arne que está compuesta por el dueño, Arne Neuntöte que por cierto es un vampiro, una chica rubia llamada Lynn Reinweiß, una chica vestida de sirvienta y que se parece un zombie llamada Amy, un muñeco de peluche parlante llamado Nachzehrer y un espejo con un niño flotante dentro llamado Zisye. Si, es un equipo muy particular, si me lo preguntas, pero apuesto a que es eso lo que le da sazón a esta obra.

But no, this type of horror doesn’t actually instill fear as such, even though it does feature somewhat macabre elements, plenty of gore, and certain stories related to the supernatural.
Pero bueno, la trama de The Case Book of Arne trata de esta agencia de detectives del otro mundo intentando resolver diferentes casos de asesinatos, desapariciones y demás cosas extrañas que ocurren a lo largo de sus episodios. Cada episodio de este anime es un caso diferente que vemos resolver por parte de un vampiro poderoso y legendario llamado Arne Neuntöte. Lo interesante de estos casos es cómo se mezclan distintos elementos sobrenaturales con el mundo real y cómo cada caso nos va revelando un misterio o una historia oscura y a veces repleta de sorpresas.
La mezcla de elementos sobrenaturales como lo son los vampiros, los zombies, los fantasmas, los nigromantes y demás cosas que aparecen en este anime es algo que ya llama la atención de por sí. Se supone que este anime también maneja el tema del terror, pero es un terror muy diferente al típico terror que conocemos. Estamos hablando del terror gótico, uno que está más dirigido a un público en específico y que se relaciona más con cosas anteriormente mencionadas. Pero no, no causa miedo como tal este tipo de terror, aunque sí tiene elementos un tanto macabros, mucho gore y ciertas historias relacionadas a lo sobrenatural.

Another thing worth mentioning about this anime is its mystery element; since it revolves around a supernatural detective agency, the series features many cases that generate suspense and curiosity about what’s happening in this world—which is both fantastical and dark at the same time. On the other hand, it also features the typical clichés found in any detective series or story, where our protagonist—in this case, a legendary vampire—possesses the intelligence and cunning to solve every case surprisingly quickly with just a few clues and a bit of information. Okay, it’s like a gothic, vampire-themed version of Sherlock.
Although the anime doesn’t have many action-packed moments, it does feature some in the early episodes, and that’s something that also catches your attention. Especially when our protagonist, Arne Neuntöte, decides to “save the day” by taking on the various villains we’ll meet throughout the series. One interesting thing is that some of the cases we’ll see are connected to Arne’s past or origins, such as when another vampire like him is the cause of all the chaos that’s unfolding. Obviously, not every episode has the same pace or level of drama.
Otra cosa a mencionar de este anime es el tema del misterio que maneja ya que al tratarse de una agencia de detectives sobrenaturales, esta obra posee muchos casos que generan suspenso y curiosidad sobre lo que ocurre en este mundo todo fantástico y oscuro a la vez. Por otro lado, también tiene los típicos clichés de toda serie o obra de detectives donde nuestro protagonista -en este caso un legendario vampiro- tiene la inteligencia y astucia de poder resolver todos los casos de una forma sorprendentemente rápida con sólo algunas pistas y algo de información. Vale, es como una versión gótica y vampiresca de Sherlock.
El anime, si bien no tiene muchos momentos de acción, sí los tiene en algunos de los primeros episodios y es algo que también llama la atención. Sobre todo cuando nuestro protagonista, Arne Neuntöte decide “salvar el día” enfrentándose así a los distintos villanos que iremos conociendo en esta serie. Algo curioso es que algunos de estos casos que iremos viendo tienen alguna relación con el pasado o el origen de Arne, como cuando otro vampiro como él es el causante de todo los estragos que están ocurriendo. Obviamente, no todos los episodios tienen el mismo ritmo y nivel de drama.

Some episodes are more emotionally compelling, while others are just for passing the time—offering a bit of lighthearted, somewhat innocent humor and not much else. But overall, it’s entertaining, especially if you like anything related to detectives, mysteries, and the supernatural. The various characters we meet in this anime also have their own appeal that catches your attention. In contrast to the mysterious and unfriendly protagonist who’s only interested in solving cases, we have Lyn, who’s a pleasant and funny girl, but with a very dark character arc.
As for the rest, the supporting characters in this anime don’t stand out any more than you’d normally expect. The other members of The Arne Detective Agency don’t have much to tell us or show us either. And the villains we meet throughout the episodes aren’t exactly fascinating or interesting either—though, of course, we do get all the mysticism and lore introduced in each case right from the start. But still, that doesn’t mean it isn’t an anime worth watching, at least to have a good time and not much else.
Hay algunos casos que son más emotivos, otros que solo son para pasar el rato, entretenerse con un estilo de humor un tanto inocente y ligero y poco más. Pero en regla general también es entretenido, sobre todo si te gusta todo lo relacionado a detectives, misterios y cosas sobrenaturales. Los distintos personajes que vamos conociendo en este anime también poseen su atractivo que llama la atención. A diferencia del protagonista misterioso y poco amable que solo le interesa resolver casos, tenemos a Lyn quien es una chica agradable y graciosa, pero con un desarrollo de personaje muy oscuro.
De resto, los personajes secundarios que tiene este anime no resaltan más de lo que normalmente uno espera. El resto de miembros de La Agencia de Detectives Arne no tienen mucho que contarnos o demostrarnos tampoco. Y los villanos que vamos conociendo a lo largo de los episodios tampoco son tan fascinantes o interesantes que digamos, claro, eso sí sacamos todo el misticismo y el lore que nos introducen en cada caso desde el principio. Pero bueno, esto no quita que sea un anime que vale la pena ver, al menos para pasar un buen rato y poco más.

The studio behind this animated adaptation did a solid job, as always, but here they really stand out on more than one occasion. It’s safe to say that the most striking aspect of this series is its animation: starting with the eye-catching character designs, the gothic art style, the dark color palette, and the use of light and shadow—all of which are truly outstanding. It also features some truly fascinating and highly detailed shots and perspectives.
The environment design, the level of detail and fluidity this anime displays in some episodes, and the excellent visual effects are top-notch. The anime also doesn’t hold back when it comes to showing scenes filled with gore, deaths, and similar elements. The sound effects are excellent as well, but they pale in comparison to the soundtrack, which elevates the emotion and intensity of each episode to its peak in a dark and rather gloomy way. In short, this is an anime I’d only recommend to those who love the supernatural mixed with mystery.
Personally, I give it a rating of 8/10 in terms of the genres of gothic horror, dark fantasy, the supernatural, mystery, and comedy.
Por último, pero no menos importante, hablemos del apartado audiovisual que posee The Case Book of Arne. El estudio a cargo de esta adaptación animada no hizo un mal trabajo, como siempre, pero aquí llegan a destacarse en más de una ocasión. Se puede decir fácilmente que lo más llamativo de esta obra es su animación, empezando por los llamativos diseños de los personajes, ese estilo de dibujo todo gótico, la paleta de colores oscuros y el uso de luces y sombras son de lo más resaltante. También maneja planos y vistas bastante fascinantes y muy bien detalladas.
El diseño de los entornos, la calidad de detalles y fluidez que posee este anime en algunos episodios y los excelentes efectos visuales que maneja son de lo mejor. El anime tampoco se queda corto al momento de mostrarnos escenas repletas de gore, muertes y cosas similares. Los efectos de sonido son excelentes también, pero nada comparado con su banda sonora que logra elevar la emoción y el nivel de cada episodio a su máximo esplendor de una forma oscura y bastante tétrica. En resumen, este es un anime que solo se lo recomiendo a aquellos amantes de lo sobrenatural entremezclado con el misterio.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 8/10 en lo que respecta al género de terror gótico, fantasía oscura, sobrenatural, misterio y comedia.
