Plot
The anime begins by showing us a group of people gathered in the middle of a city, surrounding what appears to be one of those places where criminals are executed. Next, we see a little girl named Constance approaching the site with her parents, but she drifts away from them as she pushes deeper and deeper into the crowd to try to see the person who is about to be executed. When she finally manages to break away from the group, she realizes she is standing right in front of the woman who is about to be executed, who suddenly casts a curse on everyone present just before she dies.

El anime inicia mostrándonos a un grupo de personas reunidas en medio de una ciudad rodeando lo que parece ser uno de esos sitios donde ejecutan a criminales. Acto seguido vemos a una niña llamada Constance acercarse junto con sus padres al lugar, pero se aleja de ellos al adentrarse más y más ante la turba para intentar ver a la persona que van a ejecutar. Cuando al fin logra alejarse del grupo, se da cuenta de que está justo enfrente de donde se encuentra parada la mujer que van a ejecutar, quien de repente lanza una maldición a todos los presentes justo antes de morir.

Like any fan of suspense and mystery, I was really excited to watch this anime as it aired—or at least I was at first. What started out as a fantastic story with drama, suspense, and supernatural elements ended up turning into a series of events involving terrorists, the trafficking of dangerous materials, and attacks against the kingdom. And yet the anime is supposed to be about the mystery behind the death of Scarlett Castiel, the woman who is executed at the beginning.
Despite all these confusing plot twists, I like how the series manages to weave together as much as possible all the events surrounding Scarlett’s death as a historic event that would change the fate of her kingdom. On the other hand, we also see how her death affected the people involved in various ways, as in the case of the crown prince, Enrique Adelbide. But the most remarkable aspect of this entire anime is the relationship between Scarlett Castiel and our young protagonist, Constance Grail.
Como todo fan del suspenso y el misterio, fue toda una ilusión para mí ver este anime en emisión, o al menos lo fue al principio. Lo que empezó siendo una historia fantástica con drama, suspenso y elementos sobrenaturales terminó convirtiéndose en una serie de eventos relacionados a terroristas, tráfico de material peligroso y atentados contra el reino. Y eso que se supone que el anime trata del misterio que hay detrás de la muerte de Scarlett Castiel, la mujer a la que ejecutan al principio.
A pesar de todos estos giros de trama tan confusos, me gusta cómo la misma obra logra entrelazar lo más posible todos los hechos ocurridos con la muerte de Scarlett como un evento histórico que cambiaría el destino de su reino. Por otro lado, también podemos ver cómo esto afectó de diversas maneras a las personas involucradas ante su muerte, como lo es el caso del príncipe heredero, Enrique Adelbide. Pero lo más destacable de todo este anime es la relación que tiene Scarlett Castiel con nuestra pequeña protagonista, Constance Grail.

After a dramatic event filled with betrayals and manipulation, Constance finds herself caught in a trap set by her romantic rival, Pamela Francis, who accuses her of stealing from one of her friends at the party where they are both present. After seeing her with the man who is supposedly her fiancé, Neil Bronson, Pamela tries to have Constance sent to prison. However, a supernatural event occurs, and Constance’s body is possessed by the ghost of Scarlett Castiel, who had invited her to the party shortly before.
Let’s just say that it was exactly that moment in the first episode that convinced me to watch it all the way through. Even so, The Holy Grail of Eris is an anime that isn’t for everyone—only for fans of mystery and suspense. Don’t expect the typical run-of-the-mill story, but rather a somewhat complex web of events related to Scarlett’s death and how this ultimately leads to a potential war between nations. Personally, I had high hopes for this anime, at least in terms of storytelling, since that’s what caught my attention the most.

But I was ultimately a little disappointed that they resorted to some typical, age-old clichés, like the fact that the protagonist is always saved from danger. Whether by Scarlett’s ghost herself or by her new fiancé, Commander Randolf Ulser, Constance always ends up surviving the most dangerous scenes or moments in ways that feel a bit contrived. But then again, it’s not exactly a big deal or something that negatively affects the plot itself. The sequence and series of events we’ll see over the course of this anime’s 12 episodes are what make it worth watching.
This anime doesn’t just offer mystery and supernatural elements; it also delivers dramatic, emotionally charged moments, such as Scarlett’s father’s confession at the end, for example. Or, without going too far ahead and to avoid spoilers, we also see how both the crown prince and her best friend dealt with Scarlett’s death—the friend who also took her own life in an attempt to hide a mystery that sets the stage for everything we see in this anime.
Pero me terminó de decepcionar un poco que utilicen algunos clichés típicos de siempre como el que la protagonista sea salvada siempre del peligro. Ya sea por el mismo fantasma de Scarlett o por su nuevo prometido, el comandante Randolf Ulser, Constance siempre termina sobreviviendo a escenas o momentos de mayor peligro de formas un tanto sacadas del guión. Pero bueno, tampoco es que sea nada del otro mundo o algo que afecte negativamente a la trama como tal. El orden y la serie de eventos que iremos viendo en los 12 episodios que dura este anime son lo que valen la pena verlo.
Este anime no solo nos ofrece misterio y elementos sobrenaturales solamente, sino que también nos da momentos dramáticos y repletos de emoción como lo puede ser la confesión del padre de Scarlett al final, por ejemplo. O para no irnos tan lejos y evitar spoilers, vemos también la forma en la que se tomaron la muerte de Scarlett tanto el príncipe heredero como su mejor amiga, quien también se quitó la vida en un intento de ocultar un misterio que da paso a todo lo que vemos en este anime.

Although we initially thought the mystery behind the “Holy Grail of Eris”—which at first sounded like some kind of magical relic—actually turned out to be something completely different. I also like that the pace and sequence of events unfold in a way that keeps you from getting bored or frustrated.
There’s always a surprise, a mystery, a theory, and a plot twist that changes everything. But what I liked most is the very special relationship that develops between Scarlett’s ghost and Constance, who at first obeyed her to repay her for saving her from an unjustified accusation of theft that nearly landed her in prison, but then they end up becoming friends. Let’s just say that this very special pair’s investigative work was what ultimately set off a whole series of events that escalate into something much bigger.
Me gusta que, aparte de la propia presencia del fantasma de Scarlett, la obra no recurra mucho de elementos fantásticos o sobrenaturales. Por ejemplo, la organización criminal que busca derrocar el reino recurren a atentados y tratos con miembros de la nobleza y realeza para lograr sus objetivos. Si bien pensamos que el misterio detrás del “Santo Grial de Eris” que, si bien al principio sonaba que era alguna reliquia mágica, en realidad terminó siendo una cosa completamente diferente. Me gusta también que el ritmo y orden de los acontecimientos pasan de forma que no te aburras o desesperes tanto.
Siempre hay una sorpresa, algún misterio, alguna teoría y algún giro de trama que lo cambia todo. Pero lo que más me gustó es la relación tan especial que desarrollan el fantasma de Scarlett con Constance quien, al principio la obedecía para compensarle el haberla salvado de su injustificada acusación de robo que casi la lleva a prisión, pero luego terminan volviéndose amigas. Digamos que el trabajo de investigación de esta pareja tan especial fue lo que terminó desembocando toda una serie de eventos que escalan a algo mucho más grande.

There are characters who really stand out, beyond the stunning and beautiful Scarlett Castiel, who shines from the very first minutes of the first episode. For example, Constance Grail—while she starts out as the typical innocent, weak, and vulnerable heroine—gradually evolves into someone more confident, determined, and reliable. On the other hand, we also have antagonists like Cecilia Adelbide, the woman and current wife of Prince Henry. At first, she comes across as cheerful and innocent, but what she truly reveals deep down is something far darker and more dangerous.
Her ending—while not one I personally expected to see—ends up convincing me, at least in part because it ties up much of the plot with a twist that borders a bit on the cliché of these disputes between nations and such. But anyway, what also really stood out about this anime is its audiovisual presentation. Above all, the animation—especially the character designs—starting with Scarlett Castiel, whom I really like. The use of light and shadow is excellent because, together with the camera angles, it sets the mood for each scene very well.
The Holy Grail of Eris also features solid work in terms of visual effects. We don’t get to see stunning, top-tier animation, but what we do see here stands out enough to meet expectations for this anime. While the fluidity isn’t the best out there, it’s not as bad as what we see in other run-of-the-mill anime each season. The sound effects also stand out. But what I like most is this anime’s soundtrack, because it elevates the emotion and drama of each scene to its fullest potential.
Personally, I give it a rating of 8/10 in terms of the mystery, drama, and supernatural genres.
Hay personajes que se destacan bastante, más allá de la asombrosa y hermosa Scarlett Castiel quien se luce desde los primeros minutos del primer episodio. Por ejemplo, Constance Grail, si bien empieza siendo la típica protagonista inocente, débil y vulnerable, poco a poco termina convirtiéndose en alguien más segura, decidida y confiable. Por otro lado, también tenemos a personajes antagonistas como la mujer y actual esposa del príncipe Enrique, Cecilia Adelbide. Al principio demuestra ser alguien alegre e inocente, pero lo que realmente demuestra ser en su interior es algo muchísimo más oscuro y peligroso.
Su final, si bien no es un final que personalmente esperaba ver, me termina convenciendo, al menos en parte debido a que logra cerrar gran parte de los eventos que ocurren con un giro de trama que roza un poco con el cliché de estas disputas entre naciones y tal. Pero bueno, lo que también llegó a destacarse muy bien de este anime es el aspecto audiovisual. Sobre todo su animación, principalmente por el diseño de los personajes, empezando por el de Scarlett Castiel que me gusta mucho. El uso de luces y sombras es excelente ya que, junto con los planos que nos muestran ambientan muy bien cada escenario.
The Holy Grail of Eris también cuenta con un buen trabajo en cuanto a efectos visuales se refiere. No llegamos a ver una animación impresionante y de altísima calidad, pero lo que podemos ver aquí logra destacarse lo suficiente para lo que uno espera ver de este anime. Si bien la fluidez tampoco es la mejor del mundo, no es tan mala como lo que podemos ver en otros animes genéricos de cada temporada. Los efectos de sonido también destacan por su parte. Pero lo que más me gusta es la banda sonora de este anime debido a que consigue elevar la emoción y el drama de cada escena a su máximo esplendor.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 8/10 en lo que respecta al género del misterio, el drama y lo sobrenatural.
