Ahhh, Roland Emmerich, Hollywood’s master of disaster is back. Depicting, in glorious SFX, the falling of the moon, right in the middle of Chinese Lunar New Year!

Recycling the old, Independence Day, 2012 and Day after tomorrow’s template, the US of A being the stereotypical world’s last hope and savior - NASA, the US Army, and the President!

Typical of the US’s solution to any alien threat, nuke ‘em! It has been as such since 1902 George Melies’s ‘A trip to the Moon’ with a rocket poking one of its eyes.

Yes, it is French but close to any other world conqueror, also like the Spanish Conquistadors, they claim superiority over the land they invade. The native inhabitants are called ‘aliens’.

So does in this one!

An alien threat in a form of black sprawling (and dragon-like) anomalies destroying any form of a voyage by the States. And it is getting close to home!

And who has been the monkey on the back of the US, making them lose sleep and giving them headaches?

China.

Happy Chinese New Year to all!
