The first anniversary of one of the most meta experience I’ve gone through.
WAYANG in Javanese means SHADOW.
Two different time yet same medium projecting forward the same tale. The battle between good and evil.
One about RAMAYANA and MAHABARATA and the other one murdered at stake with multiple keris, by a shadowy villain.
One has been deemed ‘haram’ and the other one made a come back and slayed the beast with one on the head.
The STAR today posted an article about a Tok Dalang, PAK DAIN in KELANTAN and his struggle finding a replacement for him. He spend his own money keeping alive a heritage while the one in power (the beast with keris) is busy cleaning up the forest for their MERCEDES BENZ (that one is halal).
In the book WHAT I SAW IN MALAYA, JEANNE CUISINER made her voyage to the 1930s Kelantan. Is the WAYANG KULIT (Shadowplay) is a mere ‘wayang’ covering an act of sacrifice for the deities?
And consider the ‘wayang’ we see daily in the media whilst who and what is being ‘sacrificed’ for the colonial ‘deities’?
At the end of the ‘WAR OF THE RUNNING DOGS’, the colonial characters question the banners showing TUNKU as the independence hero and irked it should’ve been CHURCHILL instead.
