Ryder busca poner a prueba a Halsey, lo hostiga a lo largo de la película se comportándose como un verdadero depredador que busca a alguien que pueda detenerlo. No sabemos las motivaciones de Ryder el cual se presenta como un ser casi indestructible, que convierte a Helsey en un hombre con rabia y ganas de matar a quien se burló de su falta de malicia. >Ryder seeks to test Halsey, he harasses him throughout the film behaving like a true predator looking for someone who can stop him. We do not know the motivations of Ryder who is presented as an almost indestructible being, which turns Helsey into a man with rage and desire to kill the one who mocked his lack of malice.

Robert Harmon, director de la película, la define como un Western Contemporáneo en donde un forastero en problemas llega al pueblo y nadie le cree que un malvado diabólico le está persiguiendo, excepto la chica del bar que trata de ayudarle.

Robert Harmon, director of the film, defines it as a contemporary Western where a stranger in trouble comes to town and no one believes him that a diabolical evil is chasing him, except the girl in the bar who tries to help him.

No faltan dentro de la trama vehículos destruidos ni policías ineptos. Visualmente, las escenas en el desierto emparejan lo atmosférico con lo fantasmal del personaje interpretado por Rutger Hauer, (quien se roba toda la película). Se insinúa una relación de atracción sexual entre los dos protagonistas masculino durante toda la película.

There is no shortage of wrecked vehicles and inept cops in the plot. Visually, the desert scenes pair the atmospheric with the ghostly of the character played by Rutger Hauer, (who steals the entire film). A relationship of sexual attraction between the two male leads is hinted at throughout the film.

Esta obra trae a la memoria una película dirigida por Ida Lupino en 1953, con una trama muy similar titulada “El autoestopista”. Igualmente, remite: en sus últimas escenas a “Duel” (1973) de Steven Spielberg, y a “Terminator” (1984) de James Cameron en la escena de la masacre dentro de la comisaria. >This work brings to mind a film directed by Ida Lupino in 1953, with a very similar plot entitled "The Hitchhiker”. It also refers: in its last scenes to Steven Spielberg's "Duel" (1973), and to James Cameron's "Terminator" (1984) in the scene of the massacre inside the police station.

Se estrenó el 21 de febrero de 1986, siendo su presupuesto de 6.000.000.000 de dólares y resulto ser un fracaso comercial, recibió críticas mixtas, siendo una de las más demoledoras la de Roger Ebert en su columna en el diario Chicago Sun-Times:

It was released on February 21, 1986, with a budget of $6,000,000,000 and turned out to be a commercial failure, receiving mixed reviews, one of the most devastating being Roger Ebert's in his column in the Chicago Sun-Times:

“En sus propios términos, esta película es enfermiza y corrupta. La habría admirado más si hubiera tenido el valor de reconocer la relación real que retrata entre Howell y Rutger, pero no: prefiere disfrazarse de thriller violento, y a ese nivel es reprobable.”

"On its own terms, this movie is sick and corrupt. I would have admired it more if it had had the courage to acknowledge the real relationship it portrays between Howell and Rutger, but no: it prefers to masquerade as a violent thriller, and on that level it is reprehensible."

Existe una segunda parte que se rodó en el año 2003 y un remake del año 2007, véanlas a su propio riesgo, yo particularmente no las recomiendo.

There is a sequel that was shot in 2003 and a 2007 remake, see them at your own risk, I particularly don't recommend them.

La película con mucha tensión y suspenso transmite la idea de que ante la maldad todos somos vulnerables. Para mí es de visión obligatoria y digna de estar dentro de mis películas de culto, incluso me atrevo a decir que el psicópata representado por Rutger Hauer asusta más que Freddy Krueger o Jason Vorhess. Altamente recomendable!.

The film with a lot of tension and suspense conveys the idea that in the face of evil we are all vulnerable. For me it is a must see and worthy of being among my cult movies, I even dare to say that the psychopath represented by Rutger Hauer is scarier than Freddy Krueger or Jason Vorhess. Highly recommended!
