Jo Fowler (Halle Berry), a former astronaut and now NASA executive, wants to save the planet. With the help of her former partner Brian Harper (Patrick Wilson) and conspiracy theorist KC Houseman (John Bradley), they mount a mission into space, landing on the lunar surface, and confronting a cosmic mystery.
In this opportunity in the climax of the movie it is discovered that our ancestors, (but from other planets), built the Moon as an instrument to create life in the Universe, creating an artificial intelligence that turned against them. This is described to our heroes by a software that in turn manages to upgrade their ship's systems.
Houseman decides to sacrifice himself at the last moment to explode a bomb and succeed in correcting the course of the Moon, but his consciousness is downloaded into the software.
It is a generic movie with an apparent madman who is right in the end, with dysfunctional families, heroes with traumas, sacrifices with parallel plots, bad jokes, and with references to 2001 Space Odyssey. It's a homage mix of all of Emerich's catastrophic films. It's illogical, funny at times, boring at others. I laughed at things I shouldn't have laughed at.
The script, as is to be expected in this type of catastrophic spectacle film, is not very developed and what is told in the film could have been done in less time, subtracting at least 20 minutes from the film.
It cost US$140,000,000.00 with terrible performances from Patrick Wilson, Halle Berry and John Bradley. Emerich has made the same movie at least 5 times with more or less success.
Save money, if you are going to see it in Streaming, that is if you are aware that you are going to witness a work by Roland Emerich with a very poorly adapted script, poor performances and good special effects, especially those related to astronauts in space , what happens on earth after the approach of the Moon is already seen in Emerich's other disaster films.
