Hello friends, this weekend I saw a miniseries that I had in my pending to see it and that some friends had recommended to me, it is a story based on the novel of the same name by William Landay. It premiered in 2020, but since the reviews were not very good, I was late in deciding to watch it and I regret it because it surprised me, not only is it a suspenseful psychological drama, but it makes us reflect. How far should parents go to protect their children? What is that thin line that separates doing the right thing or not, to protect them? Questions that in this miniseries gives us a look at these questions in an intelligent and believable way.
Hola amigos, este fin de semana vi una miniserie que tenía en mis pendientes por verla y que unos amigos me habían recomendado, es una historia basada en la novela del mismo nombre de William Landay. Se estreno en el 2020, pero como las criticas no fueron muy buenas, tarde en decidirme en verla y me arrepiento porque me sorprendió, no solo es un drama psicológico de suspenso, sino que nos hacer reflexionar. ¿Hasta donde los padres deben de llegar por proteger a sus hijos?¿Cual es esa delgada línea que separa el hacer lo correcto o no, para protegerlos? Interrogantes que en esta miniserie nos da un vistazo a estas preguntas de manera inteligente y creíble.

Directed by Mark Bomback and Morten Tyldum, the same director of "The Enigma Code", just to name one, this miniseries prints its slow touch, but not slow in how the story unfolds. Perhaps because of this style and his way of telling the story, very different from what we usually see, he did not have the success he deserved. A cast of leading actors such as: Chris Evans (remembered Captain America), Michelle Dockery and Jaeden Martell, form the family that will have to go from being the ideal family to being the family most hated by their neighbors and friends. This miniseries focuses on family relationships, couples, parents and children and to ask ourselves how well we really know the people we love.

Quizás por este estilo y su manera de contar la historia muy diferente a lo que solemos ver no tuvo es éxito que merecía. Un elenco de actores de primer orden como: Chris Evans (recordado Capitán América), Michelle Dockery y Jaeden Martell, forman la familia que deberá pasar de ser la familia ideal a ser la familia más odiada por sus vecinos y amigos. Esta miniserie se centra en las relaciones familiares, de pareja, de padres e hijos y a preguntarnos que tanto conocemos en realidad a las personas que amamos.
The story deals with how assistant prosecutor Andy Barber (Chris) investigates the murder of a boy (Ben Rifkin), his son's classmate, and how the investigation points to his son being the prime suspect in the crime. Andy will defend the innocence of his son tooth and nail, but for his mother, Laurie (Michelle), it will not be so easy. She will be torn between the love she feels for her son, Jacob (Jaeden), and not believing her innocence. We will see how suspicions that her son is a murderer change her lives, jobs and friendships forever. Making living in her community a living hell. While her father will do everything to prove his innocence.
La historia trata como un asistente de fiscal Andy Barber (Chris), investiga el asesinato de un chico (Ben Rifkin), compañero de clases de su hijo y como la investigación va apuntando a su hijo de ser el principal sospechoso del crimen. Andy defenderá la inocencia de su hijo a capa y espada, pero para su madre, Laurie (Michelle), no será tan fácil. Ella se debatirá entre el amor que siente por su hijo, Jacob (Jaeden), y el no creer su inocencia. Veremos como las sospechas de que su hijo sea un asesino, cambia para siempre su vidas, trabajos y amistades. Haciendo un infierno el convivir en su comunidad. Mientras que su padre hará todo para probar su inocencia.
The performances of its protagonists are solid and especially the character of Jacob, Jaeden's interpretation is magnificent. It also has a first class cast such as: Betty Gabriel, Sakina Jaffrey, Cherry Jones, Pablo Schreiber, J.K. Simmons, Bradley Ryan Knispel and others. Who with their performances keeps us on edge in each chapter. This miniseries is told in flashbacks, as Andy begins to tell the story to determine whether or not he should go to trial in his case. I think the main thing about this miniseries is not about the murder but how the fact of being accused and being suspected completely upsets the dynamics of the family nucleus and with it the skeletons that each one has in the closet.
Las actuaciones de sus protagonistas son sólidas y sobre todo el personaje de Jacob la interpretación de Jaeden es magnífica. También cuenta con un elenco de primera como: Betty Gabriel, Sakina Jaffrey, Cherry Jones, Pablo Schreiber, J.K. Simmons, Bradley Ryan Knispel y otros. Quienes con sus actuaciones nos mantiene al vilo en cada capítulo. Esta miniserie esta narrada en flashbacks, cuando Andy comienza a contar la historia para determinar si debe ir a juicio o no su caso. Creo que lo principal de esta miniserie no es sobre el asesinato sino como el hecho de ser acusado y ser sospechoso trastorna la dinámica por completo del núcleo familiar y con ello los esqueletos que cada uno tiene en el closet.
I am not a mother, but at the age of 19 I worked in the summers in a criminal court as an assistant, there I was able to verify that many mothers or fathers refuse to see their children as they are, even when they are arrested in flagrante delicto committing a crime. I remember in particular a mother who cried and swore that her son was innocent even when he was arrested committing the crime (Armed robbery), there was no way he accepted the guilt of her son. This mother did not have the means to do something, but if she had, she would have done it. This is when I wonder how far a father or mother is capable of defending her son? If he is she guilty, wouldn't she care? Would you do whatever was legal or right? Does love for children justify everything? These are questions that are not easy to answer.
No soy madre, pero a los 19 años trabajé en los veranos en un tribunal penal como asistente, allí pude constatar que muchas madre o padres se niegan a ver a sus hijos como son, aún cuando son arrestados in fragrante cometiendo un delito. Recuerdo en particular una madre que lloro y juro que su hijo era inocente aun cuando lo arrestaron cometiendo el delito (Robo a mano armada), no hubo forma que aceptara la culpabilidad de su hijo. Esta madre no tenías los medios para hacer algo, pero si lo hubiese tenido lo hubiera hecho. Acá es cuando me pregunto ¿Hasta donde un padre o madre es capaz de defender a su hijo? ¿Sí es culpable, no le importaría? ¿Haría lo que fuera, fuese legal o correcto? ¿El amor a los hijos justifica todo? Son interrogantes que no son fáciles de contestar.
Each case is very different and particular but this miniseries shows us this reality and how the answer can be. I can't imagine the pain and despair so great that parents must feel when seeing their son accused of a murder or serious crime, if he never had problems. It is a difficult situation and here he shows us how that undermines the family nucleus. I liked the miniseries and if you have the opportunity to see it, do it, I recommend it. For me it is an 8 out of 10.
Cada caso es muy diferente y particular pero esta miniserie nos muestra esta realidad y como puede ser la respuesta. No imagino el dolor y desesperación tan grade que deben sentir los padres al ver a su hijo acusado de un asesinato o delito grave, si este jamás tuvo problemas. Es una situación difícil y acá nos muestra como eso socaba el núcleo familiar. La miniserie me gusto y si tienes oportunidad de verla hazlo, te la recomiendo. Para mi es un 8 de 10.
