You know how you see a movie and you can tell you would enjoy it but it isn't going to win any awards soon? This is one of those movies. I saw the trailer a month ago, and as always, I was very excited to see it being that I'm a sucker for movies that have vampires in them. I downloaded it yesterday and only had the time to see it today. Apart from the obvious "hunting of vampires", I picked the struggle of a father trying his best to keep his family together, working very hard to provide enough money so he can pay for his daughter's tuition and I respect that. I was thirty minutes into the movie when my family came into the living room and decided they wanted to see it too. I had to start all the way from the beginning and you know how frustrating that can be. The only bright side to it was I saw the fight scene at the beginning of the movie again. If you have not seen the trailer before or didn't know anything about the movie prior to watching it, you wouldn't even know it had vampires it.
Day Shift, which aired on the 12th of August 2022 stars Jamie Foxx as a vampire hunter struggling to make ends meet. It also stars Snoop Dogg even though he didn't have much screen time. I could identify only two other cast members, Dave Franco, you might know him as one of the magicians from the movie "Now you see me" and Meagan Good from "Think like a man". I didn't know the rest of the cast. The main reason I saw this movie was because it had Snoop Dogg in it if I'm being very honest. Don't get me wrong, I love Jamie Foxx, his movies have been amazing, from Soul to Robin Hood to Just Mercy but I wasn't particularly fond of his superhero movie, Project Power. It wax just like this one, an awesome movie and maybe something I would see a second time but not a third or fourth.
The Plot
Bud Jablonski (played by Jamie Foxx) is a vampire hunter at risk of having his family (wife and daughter) move away because they can't make the payments for their daughters tuition. He has limited time before he family moves so he decides to get back in the good books of the union, an organization made for hunting vampires. He asks his friend, Big John (Snoop Dogg) for help with the union. He is given once last chance to prove himself but he must be under the supervision of an agent from the union.
Although Bud doesn't like it, he goes along with it because he had to make money fast. Unknown to Bud, he is being hunted by some very powerful vampires (and I'm not just talking about physical strength or enhanced speed) for killing the top vampire's child. They kidnap Bud's wife and daughter, holding them hostage in one of their underground caves. The vampires plan to turn his daughter into one of them. Bud gets help from his union supervisor and another vampire who moved next door to him but wants to see the vampires taken down. We later find Big John coming to the aid of Bud. Just before the movie ends, we see Snoop Dogg smoke a blunt like he always does.
Will Bud save his family? Does he union kick him out for good? I won't give that away, you have to watch it to find out.
My Opinion
Is this a good movie? Yes, yes it is but is it a great movie, I think not. I don't know if this is Jamie Foxx new line of movie genres but this didn't quite do it for me. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the movie, it had action (there were a lot of awesome fight scenes and they could easy pass it off as comedy. There were plenty scenes that would make you laugh.
It didn't have suspense. The plot was straight forward, good guy defeats bad guy. One thing I do commend though is the unpredictability. I knew the movie was going to have a happy ending but I didn't know how the happy ending was going to happen. It was also fun Snoop Dogg in a movie but like I said, he wasn't given enough time. One thing that would draw people to see the movie was the fact that he was in it but I'm not sure he appeared up to 10 minutes total in the movie.
I like Seth, Bud's union supervisor.
He made me laugh the most in the movie.
From a desk job to the field. I saw him turn from a scared desk boy to a badass. Something happened between this character and Bud that made me go, "oh, there's a twist" but then they set it back and I was disappointed.
My family enjoyed it though, they're currently seeing it again as I write this. Movies like this always make me thing about the real world and how there are a lot of things that can be happening in secret but most people have no idea of it.
IMDb gives it a 6.8/10, I think I'm going to remove the .8 and give it a 6/10. If you're just looking for something new to watch, then I suggest you see this but don't set your expectations too high.

¿Sabéis que cuando ves una película te das cuenta de que la vas a disfrutar pero no va a ganar ningún premio pronto? Esta es una de esas películas. Vi el tráiler hace un mes, y como siempre, estaba muy emocionado por verla siendo que soy un fanático de las películas que tienen vampiros. La descargué ayer y recién hoy tuve tiempo de verla. Aparte de la obvia "caza de vampiros", escogí la lucha de un padre que hace todo lo posible por mantener a su familia unida, trabajando muy duro para proporcionar suficiente dinero para poder pagar la matrícula de su hija y lo respeto. Llevaba treinta minutos viendo la película cuando mi familia entró en el salón y decidió que también quería verla. Tuve que empezar desde el principio y ya sabes lo frustrante que puede ser. El único lado positivo fue que volví a ver la escena de lucha del principio de la película. Si no has visto el trailer antes o no sabías nada de la película antes de verla, ni siquiera sabrías que tiene vampiros.

La trama
Bud Jablonski (interpretado por Jamie Foxx) es un cazador de vampiros que corre el riesgo de que su familia (esposa e hija) se traslade a otro lugar por no poder hacer frente a los pagos de la matrícula de su hija. Tiene un tiempo limitado antes de que la familia se mude, así que decide volver a los buenos libros del sindicato, una organización creada para la caza de vampiros. Pide a su amigo Big John (Snoop Dogg) que le ayude con el sindicato. Le dan una última oportunidad para demostrar su valía, pero debe estar bajo la supervisión de un agente del sindicato.
Aunque a Bud no le gusta, acepta porque tiene que ganar dinero rápidamente. Sin saberlo, Bud es perseguido por unos vampiros muy poderosos (y no me refiero sólo a la fuerza física o a la velocidad mejorada) por haber matado al hijo del vampiro más importante. Secuestran a la mujer y a la hija de Bud y las mantienen como rehenes en una de sus cuevas subterráneas. Los vampiros planean convertir a su hija en uno de ellos. Bud recibe la ayuda de su supervisor del sindicato y de otro vampiro que se ha mudado a la casa de al lado, pero que quiere acabar con los vampiros. Más tarde vemos que Big John acude en ayuda de Bud. Justo antes de que termine la película, vemos a Snoop Dogg fumando un canuto como siempre hace.
¿Salvará Bud a su familia? ¿Lo echará el sindicato para siempre? No lo voy a desvelar, tienes que verlo para averiguarlo.
Mi opinión
¿Es una buena película? Sí, sí lo es, pero creo que no es una gran película. No sé si es la nueva línea de géneros cinematográficos de Jamie Foxx, pero a mí no me convenció. No me malinterpreten, disfruté de la película, tenía acción (había un montón de escenas de lucha impresionantes y podían hacerla pasar fácilmente por comedia. Había muchas escenas que te hacían reír.
No tenía suspenso. La trama era directa, el bueno vence al malo. Sin embargo, algo que alabo es la imprevisibilidad. Sabía que la película iba a tener un final feliz pero no sabía cómo iba a ser ese final feliz. También fue divertido ver a Snoop Dogg en una película, pero como dije, no se le dio suficiente tiempo. Una cosa que atraería a la gente a ver la película era el hecho de que él estaba en ella pero no estoy seguro de que apareciera hasta 10 minutos en total en la película.
Me gusta Seth, el supervisor sindical de Bud.
Es el que más me hizo reír en la película.
De un trabajo de escritorio al campo. Lo vi pasar de ser un oficinista asustado a ser un malote. Algo pasó entre este personaje y Bud que me hizo decir "oh, hay un giro" pero luego lo retrasaron y me decepcionó.
Sin embargo, mi familia la disfrutó, la están viendo de nuevo mientras escribo esto. Este tipo de películas siempre me hacen pensar en el mundo real y en cómo hay muchas cosas que pueden ocurrir en secreto pero la mayoría de la gente no tiene ni idea de ello.
IMDb le da un 6,8/10, creo que voy a quitar el 0,8 y darle un 6/10. Si solo buscas algo nuevo para ver, entonces te sugiero que la veas pero no pongas tus expectativas muy altas.
