AVATAR: SEVEN HEAVENS | BOOK ONE - EPISODE 2: INTO THE STORM | (2026) | (EN-ES) | REVIEW

Review by @neotopher 🏆#105 🔥1 🎵73 🎬49 📺24 · 13h · of Avatar: Seven Havens · 4 views

I think this new Avatar series is not getting off to a good start for several reasons, whether it be the animation, the premise—which does not seem to be appealing to the fandom that cherished “The Legend of Korra”—or the narrative pacing (which, in my view, is far too slow when it comes to telling the story).

Perhaps it is still too early to judge this new series, but based on what I have seen so far, I do not have a good first impression of this new product from such a successful franchise.

The episode begins exactly where the previous one ended, with the interaction between Pavi and Nisha. They meet and realize that they are twin sisters. What catches Nisha’s attention is learning that she is not the only person capable of bending all four elements. It is also mentioned that neither of them remembers anything about their past. They both have amnesia and have been separated for three years.

After demonstrating to Captain Karthik that Pavi possesses the Avatar’s powers, he is finally convinced that there are two Avatars in the world. He then shows them a hidden perspective on the history of the world that existed before: following the cataclysm attributed to Avatar Korra’s actions, the concept of the Avatar came to be regarded as a threat to humanity. For this reason, the surviving benders built the Seven Refuges. (Apparently, climate change has unleashed storms across the world, but it seems that this is not the only threat.)

Captain Karthik reveals what many of us already knew: at no point in the known history of the world before the cataclysm had there ever been two Avatars at the same time. While Nisha has secretly trained her abilities under Karthik’s supervision so that one day she can reveal herself to the world as the Avatar, Pavi has doubts of her own. She fears the implications of carrying the Avatar’s burden and feels that her free and modest lifestyle does not fit with such an enormous responsibility. (This feels familiar, as if Pavi had Aang’s personality while Nisha had Korra’s.)

The tranquility is interrupted when a massive sandstorm threatens to hit the refuge city of Ellora. Jae and the Control Brigade—the local defensive force—rush into action to protect the population. Faced with this crisis, Nisha insists on going out to help the others, but Captain Karthik, who serves as a sort of father figure to her, tells her to stay sheltered so that she will not be discovered. Despite Captain Karthik’s orders to remain hidden, the intensity of the disaster forces the sisters to intervene in the middle of the storm.

During the chaos, red lightning begins striking everywhere. The energy gathers in the center of the refuge, and a strange red energy creature emerges—very similar to Vaatu—which begins destroying everything in its path. There is still no explanation for this strange entity, but I would dare to assume that it is a spirit.

The refuge’s brigade cannot stop the entity, so Pavi and Nisha combine their earthbending abilities to trap it beneath a pile of rocks. It seems as though they have managed to stop it, but the strange creature becomes intangible and releases a blinding flash in front of the twins, transporting them to a strange space where they see a vision of their past—apparently, the last time they saw each other years ago. The Avatars awaken on the battlefield and realize that the creature has disappeared. (Apparently, it exploded.)

Once the storm has passed, Captain Karthik acknowledges their courage and potential after seeing them work together. However, the celebration is short-lived: Commander Bountan, severely wounded and affected after encountering the creature, delivers a disturbing warning before losing consciousness. Apparently, the entity that attacked Ellora appeared to bring with it an omen of a much greater danger targeting the Seven Refuges.

At the end of the episode, Pavi and Nisha accept their bond as sisters and decide to join forces to uncover the truth behind their origins. I think the events of the previous episode combined with this one would have made for a good first episode if the episodes were 45 minutes long.

Episode Trivia

  • The spirit that suddenly appeared alongside the storm bears a strong resemblance to Vaatu. Perhaps it is not him, but I would dare to say that the climate chaos ravaging the world is being caused by an evil spirit.
