Messiah on Netflix might be the best show on TV now (NO SPOILERS)

Review by @netflixr · 2369d · of Messiah

While it does have a lot in common with shows that we have seen before, especially Homeland this show has all the makings of something really epic and even though I am only 4 episodes in, I have enjoyed (almost) every minute of it.

The series focuses on one man, who appears in the Middle East claiming to be the Jesus or "Isa" and has been brought to the world to bring about the end of days. This sparks great doubt at first among the local population and later the rest of the world, but his involvement in a string of miracles sends the world searching, including the CIA.

The series is beautifully shot and the locations are incredible. It is meant to take place primarily in the Middle East but a lot of the filming was actually done in New Mexico, which as someone who has been there, looks a lot like the Middle East with the right camera angles.

The series involves multiple languages and therefore you are going to need to do a lot of reading to enjoy it and therefore this series cannot be watched in the background while you are doing something else. This isn't a problem though because the pacing is fantastic and there are rarely any sort of boring moments.

The first series is 10 episodes long and I am not far along enough in it to make any sort of overall judgement.

I was drawn to watch this series initially because of two reasons: One, it was new and appeared quite prominantly on my "home" interface and two, because it sparked predictable controversy in certain countries like Jordan, who have blocked it from being viewed in that country. Controversy is a sure-fire way to get me to tune in and I think it works on other people as well. It almost makes me wonder if the controversy was arranged by Netflix themselves since all publicity is good publicity, right?

I think that almost everyone is already watching this epic series and the news is filled with stories about it. I think you should get in there and see this gem before someone accidentally spoils it in a random conversation.
