Uglies: When Perfection Isn't Enough

As someone who didn’t use to love movies, I always feel intrigued when I watch movies which get me thinking.

Today, I had some free time so I decided to see a single movie which my friend has been hyping to me for a while now. Apparently, I needed to see it cos I was missing out on a lot so I did see it and here’s my review on it. I hope you like it.

THE PLOT

- - - In a world where everyone is concerned about looking beautiful, scientist managed to come up with a way to make everyone look beautiful through surgery. But, you’d have to attain a certain age before you could undergo that surgery.

Individuals below the required age who were called the Uglies were kept in facilities and being trained by the higher ups until it was time for their surgery after which they would be self into the outside world to live their lives. Little did they know that to everything, there was a price.

What happens when Tally, a rebellious ugly on her quest to find her friend Shay finds out that during the surgery, a part of your brain is taken away reducing your reasoning and making you see everything as these higher up’s want you to. Does she go through with the surgery to look beautiful forever or does she choose to be herself and live her life at her own free will? You’d have to find out on your own!

MY THOUGHTS AND RATING

Personally, I’d give this movie an 8/10 because in a way, the plot was great and the characters played their parts well.

But what got me the most was the whole point of the movie. One thing I took from this movie was that today, we have all become so consumed by standards set by humans like us and we would go to heaven and earth to meet them when we could just be ourselves.

I learnt from this movie that sometimes the things we chase aren’t even worth it. Instead , we need to take a step back and appreciate what we have. I’d totally recommend this movie. Have fun watching!
