Twists, twists, twists!
Star City is still under siege by Cayden James. Now desperate, Oliver and Dig raid a location they found in the information dump gotten from them by Vince before his death in the last episode. However, Cayden, in his usual smartness, has vacated the place, leaving only a circle of screens on which he appears to communicate with the duo, telling them their working with Vince was a breach of the agreement reached, and because of that, Star City would be leveled by midnight that day. Oliver quickly gets in touch with Thea and Quentin and informs them of the new development, along with the new police captain. Unfortunately, Felicity and Elena are still having no luck retrieving the original video from the doctored one showing the Green Arrow murdering Cayden's son, which means they have no bargaining chip at all.
Meanwhile, Dinah is also raiding known hideouts, looking for Black Siren in order to enact her revenge for Vince's murder. The other members of her team, Curtis and Rene are troubled by her bloodlust, but she turns away from them and continues nonetheless, even when they tell her of Cayden's new ultimatum.
Soon though, Felicity comes through and the video deception is revealed. WIth a little help form The Flash, Oliver and Dig are able to block Cayden just before he leaves the city and show him the proof, concluding that someone close to him had engineered his son's death to make him do exactly what he has done. Cayden is shocked, but refuses to turn off his bomb unless they help him figure out who exactly it is. With only a few hours to the explosion, the two segments of Team Arrow work quickly to apprehend Anatoly, Diaz and Black Siren, with Dinah letting go of her quest for revenge just for a moment only. They take them and gather at a location specified by Cayden, the place where the bomb is. William, who was being kept safe in the bunker, also follows surreptitiously, afraid for his father's life.
When Cayden, with his finger on the bomb's trigger informs his trio of baddies of his accusations, they at first deny it and insinuate he is crazy to even have such thoughts. But then Black Siren confesses. Everyone else is shocked, but Cayden scoffs at her, telling her he knows she isn't as callous as she tries to make everyone believe, had hesitated when he asked her to kill Vince, and was incapable of making such a plan. However, as he came close to her with his detonator, the signal interfered with the dampener around her throat, enabling her to take it off and scatter everywhere with her cry. As the villains scatter, the heroes separate to go after them. Dinah immediately goes after Laurel and engages her, but Quentin interferes and tries to save Laurel. Dinah attacks him also and takes his gun, shooting Laurel just as Laurel hits her cry. Curtis and Rene go after Anatoly, but he is able t battle the both of them and escape, as Dias also does with Diggle.
Close to the fallen detonator, William tries to pick it up, only to be stopped by Cayden himself. Oliver joins them and holds William, waiting for the blast, but Cayden relents after seeing them together, giving Oliver the opportunity to incapacitate him and seize the detonator, taking him prisoner at last.
Afterwards, Dinah resumes her Laurel hunting, even when all the others tell her not to. Cayden surrenders, giving back the money he had exhorted form the city and possible locations his escaped colleagues could have run to. Laurel, however, unknown to all, is being held by Quentin who promises to try everything in his power to turn her good again.
But then, Diaz shows up in Cayden's cell, right there in the SCPD, and owns up to orchestrating the whole thing so he could take over the city from the underground while at the same time, take out the vigilantes or make it extremely difficult for them to operate. He reveals that the new police captain is on his payroll, as are a few members of the city council, and then, having no more use for him, kills Cayden James off.
So the Cayden James arc is finally closed! But now Team Arrow is facing a more crafty opponent, one whose reach they have no clue about, and with their team fractured to boot. How will they solve this new problem? Will Quentin succeed in redeeming Laurel? And, if he does, will it mean anything for Dinah and her quest for revenge? Guess we'll find out soon enough!
