[Very Slight Spoilers Ahead. Watch Out!]
The second season of Marvel's The Punisher dropped on Netflix last Friday and I'm in the middle of binging it.
Needless to say, I'm absolutely hooked! I mean, yeah, after the spectacular first season, I didn't really expect less, but this has been nothing short of awesome so far! I love where the story picks up from, and one can totally understand where the characters are given the events of season 1.
The new characters are great too. Even with her limited screentime, Beth the bartender was immediately lovable and relatable. It's easy to see how she and Frank hit it off after only a few hours together, and doesn't seem forced at all. Plus, her getting hurt was a nice way to put Frank back in the game, without making it so obvious he wants to get in... even to Frank himself. And then, there's Rachel, the mysterious girl who started it all with her even more mysterious photos. I'm pretty sure her name isn't even Rachel, but though she's certainly no secret agent or anything, this girl certainly has a past hiding somewhere. Kudos to Giorgia Whigham for her portrayal of the character. The John Pilgrim character is so creepy, he could instill fear even in viewers. I loved how the show didn't spend too much time giving us his backstory in episode 3. Nice and succinct... and mysterious enough for the series.
And the action/gun fight scenes!!! Just, wow! But I guess those were expected too. And now that Jigsaw is on the loose, we're definitely going to get more.
Oh yeah, about Jigsaw. What can I say?? Bringing Billy Russo back in this state is creepy as hell, and super scary. You have an extremely skilled veteran with a fractured mind and violent tendencies, who we can't even hate because he doesn't remember what he did. As Medani was told, now 'everyone has to live with what he did, except him'. Am I'm definitely thinking what everyone is -- they should have put him in the grave when they had the chance.
I expect to be done with the series over the next couple of days, so expect my full review then. If it's super good, I might also do a character review.
