Has it ever happened to you that your minds have thoughts that are radically volatile and abstract compared to the actions youβd actually be capable of, to the point where you ask yourselves how you could have even thought of that ππβfor example, hurting a loved one whom you truly loveβand so many other irrational thoughts like that, where the key point to analyze is this: Could it be that, in reality, we arenβt single entities, but rather weβre composed of a pair of mindsβone thatβs supposedly rational and acts to please those around us, and the other being the most sincere, unconscious part of our being that wants to express what we truly want to do? π€π€
Forbidden Planet is a 1956 film with many highlights that Iβll mention throughout this review, the most significant of which is that it presents an emotional conflict through the lens of science fiction. I was delighted and surprised by this approach because, with a title like that, Iβd expect space creatures we have to fightβin other words, if I were to explore a new planet, thatβs what Iβd be most afraid ofβencountering new, unknown beingsβand boy, does the film explore exactly that, but in its own unique and surprising way π±π±

Iβm sharing the trailer with youβif you look closely, youβll see various references to other stories, including entire franchises. Itβs up to you to spot those colorful details that enrich and enhance this filmβs impact as a source of inspiration for others π€©π€©
For me, what I liked most was how it exploresβas a plot twistβthe darkness of our minds. Itβs a film that suggests weβve surpassed the speed of light and yet weβre still lost in understanding how our minds work, especially the part associated with instincts, which I consider to be the true and honest reflection of who we are πΆπΆ
In fact, I agree with the filmβs philosophical premiseβthat the universe is a vast mind full of unknowns, and our brains are miniature replicas of that same universe and its mysteries, which often spiral out of control π΅π΅
For example, Iβve seen my mom suffer from anxiety. Since I donβt suffer from it myself, it makes me wonder whatβs going on in the brains of those people who basically live with their minds out of controlβthe destructive, uncontrollable thoughts they have while being plunged into a darkness that prevents them from seeing the light of rationality and peace.

It's amazing that the psychological aspect is just one part of all the positive and appealing elementsβlike the storyβthat the movie develops.
For example, I was humorously surprised to see that Leslie Nielsen didn't always have white hair, haha ππ.... In fact, I was surprised to see him here. When I was writing this review and looking up the actorsβ names, I noticed his name but didnβt recognize him at firstβwhich was a pleasant surprise. But on a second viewing, there it was: his comedic spirit ππ
Leslie Nielsenβs character, Commander John J. Adams, is serious but succumbs to the virginal beauty of Altaira, played by Anne Francis, who manages to elicit a very mischievous moment of comic relief from him ππ
Altairaβs character really adds to the film; I didnβt see much depth in her as a character, but sheβs beautiful, and thatβs fineβnot everything needs to be complex. Whatβs needed is for the story to keep moving and be engaging to watch.... And she definitely checks the βattractiveβ box with her gorgeous legs and that feminine, lovely way of running ππ
I recommend watching this movie as a family because of all the science fiction it explores, intertwined with psychological conflicts ππππ»
