Yes, we’ve been promised a Black Widow origin story knockoff. This is the synopsis from IMDB: "Ballerina Dominika Egorova (Jennifer Lawrence) is recruited to 'Sparrow School' a Russian intelligence service where she is forced to use her body as a weapon. But her first mission, targeting a CIA agent (Joel Edgerton), threatens to unravel the security of both nations."
So they might as well be called Natasha Romanoff and Clint Barton.
But then the trailer came out today. Here is a link so you can watch it:
Let me tell you Scarlett Johansson can sleep peacefully at night, knowing that she is not part of this disaster. This is all murderous femme fatale and zero cool kicking ass. The ballerina dancing sequence is similar to that of Natasha Romanoff’s in Avengers: Age of Ultron, that’s the only similarity I found. Egorova doesn’t even look confident. I’m surprised Jennifer Lawrence even agreed to take this role. This may be directed by The Hunger Games director, Francis Lawrence, but Dominika Egorova is no Katniss Everdeen. We can find nothing inspiring about her, unlike most of the previous women Jennifer Lawrence choose to portray. The characters to me feels like a movie cliché from 10 years ago. Maybe the trailer is misleading (I didn’t read the book this is based on) and there is an interesting story in this movie and great characters. For now, it seems like I can guess what everyone will say and do in this movie.
The movie will come out in the U.S on March 2, 2018
Can I get my real Black Widow movie now please?
Not that I believe we will ever get a Black Widow movie after Ghost in The Shell
