It is known that the famous American horror writer Stephen King, that all acts of horror reluctant to bloody horror and volatile pieces unnecessarily, most of his work depends on psychological horror, and how can the simplest human feelings can be horrific nightmares for the owners when they own and control them
The story
The story revolves around Wilfred James, whose wife inherits dozens of acres of farming, which in turn brings them to the land of their home, thus making their farmland equal to 180 acres in full. Wilfred loves the work of the land and likes to see it flourish, give him ripe crops every year, and ultimately aspire to Henry inherit all of his teenager after he is rich. But his wife does not like the life of the countryside and wants to live in the city and sell the land to take them all there with her, Wilfred sees this as a devastation for his family and his son in particular. Therefore, he decides to use the mother's abusive behavior towards the child to establish in his mind the idea he wants to implement. If the mother does not exist, the whole land will be theirs to lead a happy and prosperous life. Now they plan to kill the mother in her bed! Now nothing will ever be the same !!
Impression of the story
What is unique about the story is the strangeness. Did paranormal really happen to turn the hero's life into an embodied nightmare, or merely an audiovisual hallucination that made him dire? This is what the author left to guess without any connotation.
I liked the story dramatic escalation prominent and logical. In addition, the story telling itself was the story of the hero of events, not as many do and make the hero unjustified. Thus, Stephen King made the hero recapture his memories and swallowed the pain and sorrow, while he codifies his ominous past that brought him to this very point in which he tells his story with a mixture of sadness and a clear tendency towards salvation.
Characters
The characters are limited in this work, giving the writer an opportunity to equally highlight them all.Even even the characters who died in the events, their actual existence did not end during the stages of the story. One of the characters I liked about her construction was that of the teenage boy Henry, whose actions were perfectly proportional to his volatile Sunni stage. And to participate in it, and that act made him realize over time that there was another way, and thus become dislike for his father and disobedient to his instructions. Henry's dramatic evolution and development really liked.
The acting
We have seen Thomas Jane in many previous works, most notably the famous The Expanse. His performance in this film will be doomed to failure if you only watch the first half and build on your evaluation, but when you complete it, Dylan Schmid played a role that did not require much effort, but there were some scenes in which he had to show certain facial expressions and a stern performance. Indeed, he showed and performed brilliantly, the rest Secondary figures represent the average quality was from my point of view.
Directing
Not supernatural or miserable but rather average. There were no scenes with a distinctive directional touch.I was expecting in some scenes to go out and move them to other scenes in more innovative ways, but it did not happen, the output is rather classic, and was not as expected.
Personal opinion
An average film that captures a story that is both strong and psychological. I wouldn't say bad work, but Netflix as a rich production company could have brought a more sophisticated way out to make the work more impactful on the viewer. Overall it was not a waste of time, but it could have been more powerful than it is.
