A horror story about a husband who kills his best is nothing special, but if on top of that I tell you that it is a story written by Stephen King then it starts to catch your attention, is that the story itself is very simple, but it is the subtle development of each action that makes it an interesting story, full of increasingly dark twists, a story with a gray and sometimes cruel tone where misfortune is just around the corner, the characters get stuck in your retina, they automatically become quite loved and hated at the same time.

The strongest shine of this film is in its performances, and the script, is when you say that incredible story, it is true that it takes time to develop the characters, but when you start the conflict is when you really get perplexed by the naturalness of the story, how the small nuances in the plot become so deep, And besides, the story is narrated from the present of the protagonist, so everything we see is a confession from him, this may seem like something that would take away the surprise of the film, but it is something that brings us deeper into the character.

    image.png

It seems that I talk about this film as a real gem of the seventh art, and in a way it is, it is a pretty deep story, which of course as I mentioned can be somewhat slow, but worth it, I think if you have the opportunity you should see it on a mandatory basis you can find it on Netflix.

    ¡Hasta la próxima, un abrazo!

  2. MOVIES REVIEW - "1922" Gruesome murder tale from Stephen King's universe [ENG - ESP]@franchalad1631d

    MOVIES.png

    ENG.png

It's no secret that most of the movies made by Netflix are not exactly a masterpiece in any sense. That fact is much more significant if we are talking about genres like horror for example that never meet the expectations and almost always fail the attempt there the thing gets even worse.

However, there are plenty of movies that are worth watching, especially movies based on novels of the same name, such as adaptations of literary works, especially those of the great American writer Stephen King. King has to his credit a very long history of novels that have been taken to the big screen or even to television.

I have decided to begin with this review a long journey through some of his most famous adaptations in the seventh art. The first of these reviews I will do is about one of his novels published in the collection that the writer would launch in 2010 and was called Full Dark, No Stars.

    ESP.png

In this collection of several novels or stories was born a disturbing story and like all the universe of Stephen King connected with some of the locations, characters or themes addressed in previous novels or stories. In short, the story is part of the universe created by this prolific modern writer.

1922 is part of that collection which by the way won the Bram Stoker Award as collection of the year and has as its central theme retribution, a concept in which individuals are punished to the same degree as their crimes or mistakes, a western karma. This writer uses (as I modestly put aside) everyday themes for the creation of his literary works. In this case it was the turn of gender violence through, of course, this mystical and esoteric halo to which King has accustomed us in his stories.

Zak Hilditch (These Final Hours 2013) was a young but nobel director who took on the challenge of bringing to the screen this adaptation who was impressed when he read the story. The film received mixed acclaim with a cast that included Thomas Jane (The Punisher), Neal McDonough (Captain America and Batman), Dylan Schmid (Once Upon a Time) and Molly Parker (Deadwood). Hated by some acclaimed by others this story has many edges that I would like to cover today in this post that I bring to you today.

    My Opinion

Zak Hilditch is probably a name we are going to hear a lot in the coming years, the young director has a fantastic way of telling entertaining stories that don't detract from the original story. In 1922 he does it to perfection supported by a group of actors who do their characterizations very well.

Thomas Jane who is already an experienced actor in adaptations of Stephen King novels (The Mist and Dreamcatcher) is perfect in the role of the wicked James. But who carries the whole story is the young actor Dylan Schmid on whom much of the script rests. Molly Parker is also amazing in a film in which cornfields are the main ingredient.

1922 is a film with a simple plot that perfectly exploits gender abuse without getting into too many complications. With a brilliant first act where the story evolves incredibly well, every minute is entertaining although in the second act the film deflates, it is likely that this happens when the director goes out of his main axis losing conciseness.

    Stephen King

    MOVIES.png

However, this psychological thriller with some horror is very well defined from the first moment, with well done scenes by the director. It is by far a disturbing film without the need to exploit the gore or be too bloody, it is amazing how Ben Richardson's photography manages to capture the essence of the story through the images.

This production may not appear in the annals of film history but it achieves its goal of entertaining and breaks out of the mold of the bland movies Netflix usually has in its catalog. It does it very well, touching on the theme of retribution but without falling into morality all very accomplished and in just the right measure.

Is it a film I would recommend, of course it's dark, it's brilliant in its own right, it's a great choice although for me it would have fit better at 60 minutes in length. would I watch it a second time, I don't know but I probably would, expect from me many more reviews of adaptations of Stephen King novels, 1922 has done it for me.

  3. "1922" Was Indeed A Disastrous Year (my movie reaction)@tegoshei2129d

Yes! I have watched yet another movie which was inspired by "the" Stephen King's book of the same title. It's called "1922", an I strongly believe that it wasn't a good year... at all.

    image.png IMAGE SOURCE

The movie or story was told in the first person point of view, which made it more interesting because it was like the being told the story first hand by the person involved. Everything started in 1922 when a family of three Wilfred, his wife Arlette and their son Henry.
Wilfred is a farmer who owns around 80 acres of land while his wife received another 100 acres after her father died. Wilf, being a proud dad and farmer dreams to take care of the whole land together so he could pass to his son after he died. However, his wife had another dream in mind and that is to sell all their property and start anew in the city.
Knowing this, Wilf tried to convince his wife not to do so. He even asked her to let him buy the land instead even though it's in installment, but to no avail. Because of this, their relationship started to get blurry until Wilf decided to end everything with the help of their only son.

    image.png IMAGE SOURCE

Yes, they successfully got rid of Arlette... but actually, it was just the beginning. When someone commits a crime, they'd forever be wary and would try to get away with it with every possible thing. At first, it was OK. However, Henry got into a complicated situation which made him decide to leave his father. A series of unfortunate events visited both of them. *But I won't be telling it here because it would be much of a spoiler.* One thing though, humans are not the only ones involved.

These rats play a vital role in the story which gave it a creepy taste that would haunt the viewers especially those who are murophobic. I really like how these little fellas were used in the story and how they connect to every unfortunate event that happened. Let me share to you the trailer below.

    ### What Do I Think About The Movie?
I actually enjoyed it. It was actually just pretty simple but there's something in the movie and story which really got me into it. It's not the typical scary type of horror, it's more on the psychological thriller type, so I really like how it was portrayed in the movie.
There are scenes which may look horridly disgusting, but it adds to the beauty of the film. And also, I super love how it ended. This is the kind of ending that I really like to witness. I know, I might be a weirdo for telling this, but that's what I truly feel. *hahaha*
Watching all these movies based on Stephen King's novels made me want to read his books. *I'm just to lazy to read books nowadays*, but I know I'd enjoy it. I am a John Saul fan and I guess "1922" somehow feels like a book written by John Saul. *haha.. I don't know.* If I didn't know that this was based on a Stephen King novel, I'd definitely think that it might be from John Saul's.
Anyway, I hope you give this movie a shot. It's worth your time... if you're into psychological thriller/horror that is! Thanks for reading and see you in my next reviews!!!

  4. 1922 Movie Review - When Stephen King makes you hold your breath@reviewzzz2473d

It is known that the famous American horror writer Stephen King, that all acts of horror reluctant to bloody horror and volatile pieces unnecessarily, most of his work depends on psychological horror, and how can the simplest human feelings can be horrific nightmares for the owners when they own and control them

    The story

The story revolves around Wilfred James, whose wife inherits dozens of acres of farming, which in turn brings them to the land of their home, thus making their farmland equal to 180 acres in full. Wilfred loves the work of the land and likes to see it flourish, give him ripe crops every year, and ultimately aspire to Henry inherit all of his teenager after he is rich. But his wife does not like the life of the countryside and wants to live in the city and sell the land to take them all there with her, Wilfred sees this as a devastation for his family and his son in particular. Therefore, he decides to use the mother's abusive behavior towards the child to establish in his mind the idea he wants to implement. If the mother does not exist, the whole land will be theirs to lead a happy and prosperous life. Now they plan to kill the mother in her bed! Now nothing will ever be the same !!

    Impression of the story

What is unique about the story is the strangeness. Did paranormal really happen to turn the hero's life into an embodied nightmare, or merely an audiovisual hallucination that made him dire? This is what the author left to guess without any connotation.

I liked the story dramatic escalation prominent and logical. In addition, the story telling itself was the story of the hero of events, not as many do and make the hero unjustified. Thus, Stephen King made the hero recapture his memories and swallowed the pain and sorrow, while he codifies his ominous past that brought him to this very point in which he tells his story with a mixture of sadness and a clear tendency towards salvation.

    Characters

The characters are limited in this work, giving the writer an opportunity to equally highlight them all.Even even the characters who died in the events, their actual existence did not end during the stages of the story. One of the characters I liked about her construction was that of the teenage boy Henry, whose actions were perfectly proportional to his volatile Sunni stage. And to participate in it, and that act made him realize over time that there was another way, and thus become dislike for his father and disobedient to his instructions. Henry's dramatic evolution and development really liked.

    The acting

We have seen Thomas Jane in many previous works, most notably the famous The Expanse. His performance in this film will be doomed to failure if you only watch the first half and build on your evaluation, but when you complete it, Dylan Schmid played a role that did not require much effort, but there were some scenes in which he had to show certain facial expressions and a stern performance. Indeed, he showed and performed brilliantly, the rest Secondary figures represent the average quality was from my point of view.

    Directing

Not supernatural or miserable but rather average. There were no scenes with a distinctive directional touch.I was expecting in some scenes to go out and move them to other scenes in more innovative ways, but it did not happen, the output is rather classic, and was not as expected.

    Personal opinion

An average film that captures a story that is both strong and psychological. I wouldn't say bad work, but Netflix as a rich production company could have brought a more sophisticated way out to make the work more impactful on the viewer. Overall it was not a waste of time, but it could have been more powerful than it is.

    My Rating 8/10
