The story:
It revolves around real events that have already happened, namely the emergence of a toxic epidemic of mercury in the Japanese city of Minamata, and of course you see what is happening here through our hero, photographer Eugene Smith, who is required to take pictures... the press publishes them in order to answer what is happening there.. and we will see if he will succeed in achieving What is required of him or not??
The story is very good, and one of the best things is that it really discusses the reality that happens between the people who suffer from the disease and the responsible people, and we can very much consider that this is a projection and symbolism of almost the same situation that we live in.
Impression
The script had a message and one main road, but it is superficial, or in other words, it brings us some pictures or other situations, but in a not deep way, and this makes it a light film and at the same time difficult events.
Because you live in this atmosphere from the point of view of our hero.. who also has the biggest aspect in the film and that he focuses on his character and we see how something like this changes him a lot, whether in his personality or motives or even in his behavior and also the idea of filming served the film on a visual level and was excellent And very fun.
Finally, Johnny Depp, after the movie Black Mass, came back with a good movie and a nice role, and he performed very well and sometimes excellent.. but I think that this movie will not get its due because it is oppressed at the level of publicity.
Film defects
The film's flaws are many, but they are not big in a movie like this... I mean, there is no proper presentation of the characters... The rhythm itself in the first script was a little slow... The delay in introducing an important character in the events on the next side... Shifts that happen to other characters are not justified. .. Events that were promised if we see them in flashbacks, and we don't see them, and so on.
But in any case, I came out of the film happy, I liked it, and it is worth watching.
