It touches us by intimately portraying the real suffering of the victims of an environmental tragedy.
Through Eugene Smith's eyes, we feel his commitment to give a voice to the voiceless.
His gaze humanises the catastrophe by putting faces, stories and emotions to each person affected, from the helplessness of those who were sickened, to the full dignity of those who fought tirelessly for justice.
Beyond a story of the past, this film is moving in the timelessness of its message.
It reminds us how fragile we humans are in the face of disasters of our own making and how crucial it is to speak out before it is too late, as Smith did from his committed lens.
Undoubtedly, "Minamata" shocks us with its stark reality and its ability to capture human fortitude in the face of adversity.

Hello my beautiful people of Movies & TV Shows today I bring you a movie that certainly will not leave anyone with nothing to say, as it is a story based on a true story and a tragedy that even today its victims continue to suffer, and I'm sure that more than one will touch your most sensitive part, when I see this kind of movies I feel that I lived for many years in a bubble of overprotection because in reality after I became a mother at 28 years old I have realized how cruel and selfish the world is and even today at 31 years old I still see things that every day surprise me more and sadden me.)
But let's talk about the movie, which by the way I share it also to join in support of my favorite actor for everything he is going through, Johnny Depp who is the protagonist of this story and who continues to show us what a great and extraordinary actor he is even today.
I am talking about "The Minamata Photographer" which tells us about a memorable event of the famous and internationally recognized photographer of the 20th century Eugene Smith, an American man who had earned his recognition for his hard work as a photojournalist covering important events such as World War II and other events related to this war, who portrayed people in their most vulnerable moments.
Eugene Smith learns about a small town in Japan that is suffering from the side effects of mercury poisoning caused by a company that is in charge of manufacturing and dumping highly toxic chemical waste into the sea better known as The Chisso Corporation. Eugene decides to travel to Japan at a very critical time for him on a personal level but this trip will change many things in his life and in the lives of the people of this small town.
As a photographer Eugene was known only for taking black and white photographs and I can honestly say that the dark tones they used gave the story the warmth it needed to convey that feeling of desperation and drowning to get an answer and solution from the company responsible for the suffering of many of its inhabitants for many years.
Eugene arrived as a vote of hope that would be responsible for telling the world through his photography everything that the locals of Minamata were living, it is important to mention that the consequences suffered by a human being by mercury poisoning are highly terrible, and that is why it is called Minamata disease by the sector where it originated, this disease causes serious neurological problems both at the visual level, speech problems, hearing loss, seizures, sensory impairment in hands and feet and in many cases causes paralysis and even death.
visual, speech problems, hearing loss, convulsions, sensory alteration in hands and feet and in many cases causes paralysis and even death. This disease is caused by the ingestion of fish and seafood contaminated with mercury, therefore, if a pregnant woman eats these foods, the fetus will absorb all the toxicity and will be born completely paralyzed physically and without a good neurological development, in some cases remaining in vegetative states.
In my opinion this is a story that moves you all, therefore it is not a movie for entertainment at all, because it comes to tell a true story that breaks you inside, even in one of the final scenes I was about to cry because of the impact of the image of one of the victims of this heinous act, And that was captured from the many photographs that Eugene captured, and that would go down in history, really at that moment I felt like crying because you can not imagine the suffering that the families of these people have to live without being able to do anything for them but take care of them, not to mention that almost half of the film you feel a great helplessness for all of this. No doubt Johnny Depp got into this character thoroughly and this scene is one of them, which shows the fragility we have as human beings. Although his character is a bit or quite disastrous on a personal level, it doesn't fail to show his human warmth.
For me it is a jewel of a story, but it has not been recognized yet because of all the problems that Johnny Depp has had to live at a personal level, but it is certainly worthy of recognition, for its art in general, although I am not a film expert, I can say that from the soundtrack, the image, the direction and interpretation makes it a perfect complement and if we add the most important point that is to tell a real story, we will have a super production that opens your eyes to the world and the serious problem caused by industrialization at this level of toxicity.
I feel that this is a story and production that deserves international recognition, because it shows us a reality that affects us all directly, because although many of us benefit from the current technological progress and modernism, there should be laws and punishments for those who threaten the welfare and safety of the health of people living near all these unscrupulous industrial factories. And not only recognition for production but because we must defend the voice of those affected who for years were marginalized, displaced, not taken into account as valuable people and who have had to live with this incessant suffering for years, without being able to do anything, because the life of every human being deserves to be respected.
Because if something is true, none of the foods we eat at home today are 100% natural and organic, we know that many of them are planted and created based on many chemicals that accelerate their growth and therefore over time is what is causing us many of the diseases that we suffer today, so of course it is a story that affects us all directly and shows us the terrible damage done by unscrupulous industrial selfishness.
It is certainly a story worth watching, because it opens your eyes and expands your thinking beyond our own problems that sometimes are nothing compared to these real sufferings, which for a long time have been seen without hope and when you see the film you will understand why I say so.

›Minamata Movie Review (without Spoilers)@reviewzzz1847d
The story:
It revolves around real events that have already happened, namely the emergence of a toxic epidemic of mercury in the Japanese city of Minamata, and of course you see what is happening here through our hero, photographer Eugene Smith, who is required to take pictures... the press publishes them in order to answer what is happening there.. and we will see if he will succeed in achieving What is required of him or not??
The story is very good, and one of the best things is that it really discusses the reality that happens between the people who suffer from the disease and the responsible people, and we can very much consider that this is a projection and symbolism of almost the same situation that we live in.
Impression
The script had a message and one main road, but it is superficial, or in other words, it brings us some pictures or other situations, but in a not deep way, and this makes it a light film and at the same time difficult events.
Because you live in this atmosphere from the point of view of our hero.. who also has the biggest aspect in the film and that he focuses on his character and we see how something like this changes him a lot, whether in his personality or motives or even in his behavior and also the idea of filming served the film on a visual level and was excellent And very fun.
Finally, Johnny Depp, after the movie Black Mass, came back with a good movie and a nice role, and he performed very well and sometimes excellent.. but I think that this movie will not get its due because it is oppressed at the level of publicity.
Film defects
The film's flaws are many, but they are not big in a movie like this... I mean, there is no proper presentation of the characters... The rhythm itself in the first script was a little slow... The delay in introducing an important character in the events on the next side... Shifts that happen to other characters are not justified. .. Events that were promised if we see them in flashbacks, and we don't see them, and so on.
But in any case, I came out of the film happy, I liked it, and it is worth watching.
