'1h 53m' It was enough to capture my feelings
In one of the first scenes in the movie Pain and Glory, "Almodovar " tells of his character how he got to know the world in his own way, how he did not receive an education in music except in music, and all the time devoted to studying the rest of the sciences forced him to spend in training in music only.
How, later, he learned the science of geography by traveling around Europe to promote his works that were so successful, and he learned biology by means of the pain that helped him to know the many areas that he had occupied over time in his body. During his life, his knowledge, direction and aspects of life expanded, coinciding with the increase in his glory once, and the increase in his pain again.
This was the life of Salvador Malo...
He is a man who is still suffering from the remorse of the direction I made in the past, who suffers from severe physical pain that prevents him from fully practicing his life, a lonely man, although his house is large and it looks like a museum, but it is completely empty of anyone else..a house full of paintings that he gave it to All that he possesses is that she has become the only thing left with him .. a permanent nostalgia for the past, and he often thinks about him, and in the warmest moments of it, he may give him little.
We see Salvador in several scenes of the film alone in the staff, and next to it an empty space.
Especially on his bed for two, and there is a pillow on each side, but it is completely alone .. leaving the space allocated to the other person is arranged and ready with the pillow but no one on it.
Pain and Glory, written and directed by Pedro Almodobar, starred by Antonio Bandrias, Penelope Cruz, and Captive Etxindia. The film revolves around a Spanish director, "Salvador Malo", his physical suffering with the illnesses that afflicted him, and his psychological suffering with the decisions he made in the past, which in turn effect its effects and consequences on his current and upcoming decisions in his life.
Self-narration that features the movie
Pain and Glory moves between scenes from the present, and other scenes remembered by "Salvador" from his childhood and from the last times he spent with his mother before her death .. Here the scenes of the present mix with the scenes of the past smoothly and without complication, so whenever the character wants to tell, or wants to remember Something with which we move into a glimpse of its past, in which other things we want to see in itself are unfolded. And "storytelling" here is the main theme of the film, so all we see on the screen is a personal account of "Salvador" about his life, the storytelling is the main driver of events and the motivation behind most of the character's actions .. either by what he chooses to tell, or by telling stories From his past, later changes the course of events. “Almodovar” chose to tell a lot about his childhood and memories about his love story and his relationship with his mother .. about his remorse, his sense of guilt and the beginning of his way as a movie director .. and about taking heroin as an easy way to overcome his body’s pain.
Movies were the only savior
“Without filmmaking, my life lacks meaning.”
The films "Salvador" have remained with him since he was young, his memories of his childhood are not without cinema, and the smell of the halls in which the films were shown .. Even during the most difficult times of his life, he was the only savior. Salvador took the pain he had suffered many times during his life, his loyal teacher, the school that he did not enter in as a child, so his pain inspired him .. He wrote and directed his first movie and then the second and then his successes as a great director. The movie here was a personal celebration of life, in cinema and in movies. The films continued to save him ... When the actor who worked with him in a movie for many years past offered him, and they had parted since that time for Salvador's complete dissatisfaction with his performance of his character, that his confessional text "Addiction" would result in one of the halls, and when Salvador agreed after he refused, He accidentally entered his old love to see this show, and he returned to his life again promising more encounters between them ... the return that prompted Salvador to change and left the heroin that he had addicted to for a while, trying to find a cure for the many pains he suffered ... so that he could continue his life again and complete His trip with the cinema. In the end scene, we see the child and mother, who plays the role of “Penelope Cruz,” which is filmed as part of the next film for Salvador, and we discover that what we were seeing was indeed the childhood of Salvador but depicted with his eyes inside the film .. And the scenes of the past are also features of the future in Salvador’s career With his release of a movie after a long hiatus, after the death of his mother and his surgical operation, and the return of the cinema to his life again.
"Pain and Glory" was not the first movie of "Almodovar" and "Banders" together, as they previously worked together on "The Skin I Live In", "The Labyrinth of Passion", and "Matador". From the first scene to the end scene, “Antonio Banders” gave us a good performance for the character “Salvador Malo”, as he performed here from the most mature and light during his artistic career .. The performance that deserved the “Can” award for the best actor.
A very sweet movie, gentle and calm, for a man who accompanies his suffering and pain to draw new glories.
