Brooklyn Nine-Nine - Season 8 (2021) review: A decent ending.

I have always been fascinated by the simple existence of a sitcom with such a particular premise as Brooklyn Nine-Nine, the story of a humble NYPD precinct that knew how to intelligently mix comedy with a rather noisy satire of police series such as The Law And Order, resulting in an interesting product that progressively served as a gateway to address various "sensitive" issues with impressive agility.

From its timid beginnings, Brooklyn Nine-Nine was a series that was never afraid to recognize the reality within which it exists, including in its thematic elements all the social problems that characterized our last decade (especially the North American territory): racism, homophobia, machismo and the systemic failures that abound in the American security forces, problems that are especially prominent in this last season.

I'd be lying if I didn't tell you that it's one of my favorite aspects of the entire series created by Michael Schur and Dan Goor in September 2013, capable of tackling everything with undeniable skill without falling into the vulgar or exaggerated, even if it were a field mined where its writers almost always manage to cross alive.

Doesn't it happen all the time? not really. This eighth season especially seems to make more of an effort than necessary to make us reflect on the problems of our reality, occasionally leaving aside the development of its fictional characters.

Of course, none of this is extremely serious, B99 is a passionate project with many great actors and producers behind it who know how to execute a comedy perfectly, even if it plays with elements of police thriller, suspense and action. The influence of series like The Office or Parks and Recreations is undeniable, creating a unique and emotional cocktail that stands on its own.

I am very happy to have the opportunity to see the closure of the stories of all these characters, B99 is not a masterpiece that seeks to break artistic or narrative conventions but knows how to win our hearts, despite the fact that this time it could lose the focus a couple of times.

Siempre me he sentido fascinado por la simple existencia de una sitcom con una premisa tan particular como Brooklyn Nine-Nine, la historia de un humilde precinto de la NYPD sabía mezclar inteligentemente la comedia con una sátira bastante ruidosa a la series policiales como The Law And Order, resultando en un producto interesante que progresivamente sirvió como un acceso para abordar varios temas "delicados" con una agilidad impresionante.

Desde sus tímidos comienzos Brooklyn Nine-Nine fue una serie que nunca tuvo miedo a reconocer la realidad dentro de la cual existe, incluyendo en sus elementos temáticos todos los problemas sociales que caracterizaron nuestra última década (Especialmente el territorio norteamericano): el racismo, la homofobia, el machismo y las fallas sistemáticas que abundan en los cuerpos de seguridad americanos, problemas que resultan especialmente prominentes en esta última temporada.

Mentiría si no les digo que es uno de mis aspectos favoritos de toda la serie creada por Michael Schur y Dan Goor en septiembre del 2013, capaz de abordar todo con una habilidad innegable sin caer en lo vulgar o exagerado, aunque se tratara de un campo minado en dónde casi siempre sus guionistas logran cruzar con vida.

¿Acaso no sucede todo el tiempo? realmente no. Está octava temporada especialmente parece esforzarse más de lo necesario en hacernos reflexionar sobre los problemas de nuestra realidad, dejando de vez en cuando un poco de lado el desarrollo de sus personajes ficticios.

Por supuesto, nada de esto resulta extremadamente grave, B99 es un proyecto apasionado con muchos grandes actores y productores detrás que saben cómo ejecutar una comedia a la perfección, aunque juege con elementos de thriller policial, suspenso y acción. La influencia de series como The Office o Parks and Recreations es innegable, creando un cocktail único y emocional que se sostiene por si mismo.

Me alegra mucho tener la oportunidad de ver el cierre de las historias de todos estos personajes, B99 no es una obra maestra que busque romper convenciones artísticas o narrativas pero sabe cómo ganarse nuestros corazones, a pesar de que en esta ocasión pudiese llegar a perder el foco un par de veces.
