Fear Street - Part 1: 1994 (2021) review: A fresh way to enjoy the horror.

After searching for horror movies to officially kick off the Halloween season, I came across what is probably one of the most exciting projects in the entire genre today: Fear Street.

In short, Fear Street is a trilogy of films available on Netflix that tell the story of a small American town that seems to be extremely unlucky, with dozens of horrific murders and massacres that have occurred over several decades that appear to have a vague connection with each other.

This simple and typical premise of the genre serves as a very intelligent pretext to move us to three specific moments in the history of this town throughout three films: 1994, 1979 and 1666, in order that we clearly understand the phenomenon that It has been weighing it down.

We started with 1994 (The tape I just saw) and they were all filmed simultaneously, assuming that the release of the three films was only a week apart.

Part 1 of Fear Street begins as a typical film of the genre, characterized by a mixture of 90s nostalgia that is denoted in its visual and auditory aesthetics, as well as by a much more attractive photography and editing than usual.

Directed by Leigh Janiak and Co-written by Phil Graziadei himself, 1994 is a mix of horror clichés with pieces of information delivered in slick ways to keep our interest, riddled with easy-to-empathize characters and solid conflict.

Without a doubt, the most attractive part of the entire trilogy is its own structure, where the Streaming platform is fully used to play with the typical format that by definition every movie should have.

1994 is not afraid to build the foundations on which its sequels will develop, demonstrating a confidence in the project that allows us to lower our guard and is willing to enjoy.

It helps with this last point that it is a fun horror movie, which while it clashes with the typical tropes, it also gives us many reasons to enjoy.

Of course, this eagerness to embrace the typical also ends up dragging down a couple of flaws that, although they do not affect the overall experience, can make even the most demanding viewers uncomfortable: the dialogues can be unnatural and the plot often moves in different ways. too convenient.

As I said, it is a fun movie and it represents in an exciting way all the possibilities that take advantage of streaming as a platform opens, I will look forward to the two sequels and I hope I can come to bring you such positive comments as these.

Luego de buscar películas de terror para dar inicio oficialmente a la temporada de Halloween me topé con lo que probablemente sea uno de los proyectos más interesantes de todo el género en la actualidad: Fear Street.

En resumen, Fear Street es una trilogía de películas disponibles en Netflix que narran la historia de un pequeño pueblo estadounidense que parece tener muy mala suerte, con docenas de asesinatos y masacres horribles que han ocurrido a lo largo de varias décadas que aparentan tener una vaga conexión entre si.

Esta premisa tan simple y típica del género sirve como un pretexto muy inteligente para trasladarnos a tres momentos específicos de la historia de dicho pueblo a lo largo de tres películas: 1994, 1979 y 1666, con la finalidad de que entendamos con claridad el fenómeno que lo ha estado agobiando.

Iniciamos con 1994 (La cinta que acabo de ver) y todas fueron filmadas simultáneamente, suponiendo que el estreno de las tres películas se dio con tan solo una semana de diferencia entre sí.

La Part 1 de Fear Street inicia como una película típica del género, caracterizada por una mezcla de nostalgia noventera que se denota en su estética visual y auditiva, así como por una fotografía y edición bastante más atractiva de lo usual.

Dirigida por Leigh Janiak y Co-escrita por Phil Graziadei y el mismo, 1994 es una mezcla de clichés del terror con piezas de información entregadas en formas hábiles para mantener nuestro interés, plagada de personajes con lo que es fácil empatizar y un conflicto sólido.

Sin duda alguna, la parte más atractiva de toda la trilogía es su propia estructura, donde se aprovecha totalmente a la plataforma de Streaming para jugetear con el formato típico que por definición debería tener toda película.

1994 no tiene miedo en construir las bases sobre las cuales se desarrollarán sus secuelas, demostrando una confianza en el proyecto que nos permite bajar la guardia y está dispuestos a disfrutar.

Ayuda con este último punto que se trata de una película de terror divertida, que si bien se choca con los tropos típicos, también nos da muchos motivos para disfrutar.

Por supuesto, este afán por abrazar lo típico también termina arrastrando un par de defectos que aunque no afectan la experiencia general si pueden llegar a incomodar a los espectadores más exigentes: los diálogos pueden pecar de poco naturales y la trama muchas veces se mueve en formas demasiado convenientes.

Como he dicho, es una película divertida y representa de forma emocionante todas las posibilidades que abre el aprovechar el streaming como plataforma, veré las dos secuelas con ansias y espero poder venir a traerles comentarios tan positivos como con estas.
