Jingle All The Way (Or the promised gift, as we know it in Latin America) is a film with which I have a quite special relationship, to the point that I consider that it would be almost impossible to approach it objectively, since I was a child I was a Tradition to see it year after year with my father and my brothers every time Christmas approached, this caused that every frame, every joke and every moment of action was burned into my subconscious as if it were the very essence of these festivities.
However, after my most recent viewing I was pleasantly surprised: Although it is not a perfect film, there is much more thematic density than it appears on the surface.
Released in 1996 and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jake Lloyd (Yes, The Child of The Phantom Menace), under the direction of Brian Levant, in a summarized way Jingle All The Way is an emotional story of a father who decides to look at the last minute for the Your child's Christmas gift, a Turbo-Man - that year's most coveted toy.
Howard Langston is a careless father, he loves his son but has let his work responsibilities overshadow everything else, Jingle All The Way manages to tactfully balance a critique of consumerism and the American work ethic, without the need to fall into dialogue pretentious or the typical and ironic attacks on capitalism that usually flood this type of work.
Although its conflict does not translate very well to our present day (Let's consider that children's toys are no longer as attractive as they used to be and that technology has facilitated Christmas shopping), there is a certain timelessness in their execution that invites us to enjoy it.
Filled with silly dialogue and easily fixable problems, Jingle All The Way is a movie where even every negative point is charismatic.
For many it may be a mediocre product, for me it is a point of connection with a past moment in my life that I remember with great affection wrapped in a very funny movie.

Jingle All The Way (O el regalo prometido, como la conocemos en latino America) es una película con la que tengo una relación bastante especial, a tal punto de que considero que sería casi imposible abordarla con objetividad, desde que era un niño era una tradición verla año tras año con mi padre y mis hermanos cada vez que se acercaba la navidad, esto causó que cada frame, cada chiste y cada momento de acción estuviese grabado a fuego en mi subconsciente como si fuese la esencia misma de estas festividades.
No obstante, luego de mi visionado más reciente me encontré con una grata sorpresa: Si bien no es un film perfecto, existe mucha más densidad temática de la que aparenta en la superficie.
Estrenada en 1996 y protagonizada por Arnold Schwarzenegger y Jake Lloyd (Si, El Niño de The Phantom Menace), bajo la dirección de Brian Levant, de manera resumida Jingle All The Way es una emotiva historia de un padre que decide buscar a ultimo momento el regalo de navidad de su hijo, un Turbo-Man: el juguete más codiciado de ese año.
Howard Langston es un padre descuidado, ama a su hijo pero ha dejado que sus responsabilidades laborales opaquen todo lo demás, Jingle All The Way logra balancear con mucho tacto una crítica al consumismo y a la ética de trabajo estadounidense, sin necesidad de caer en el diálogo pretensioso o los ataques típicos e irónicos al capitalismo que suelen inundar este tipo de obras.
Si bien su conflicto no se traslada muy bien a nuestra actualidad (Consideremos que los juguetes de niños ya no son tan atractivos como antes y que la tecnología ha facilitado las compras navideñas), existe cierta atemporalidad en su ejecución que nos invita a disfrutarla.
Plagada de diálogos tontos y problemas que podrían solucionarse fácilmente, Jingle All The Way es una película en donde incluso cada punto negativo es carismático.
Para muchos quizá sea un producto mediocre, para mi es un punto de conexión con un momento pasado de mi vida que recuerdo con muchísimo cariño envuelto en una película muy divertida.
