I recently wrote a post in a rather introspective tone in which I describe my experience with Pixar and more specifically the reason why I consider Monster Inc as my favorite film of them since I was a child.
The reason why I bring up this topic is because first: I feel that my expectations were exceeded with Luca and second: said post serves to complement the ideas that I will present in this regard.
Contrary to Soul (Movie that premiered in the premium access of Disney Plus with great fanfare) it could be said that Luca has gone a bit missing and the truth is that is quite unfortunate, considering that he has a lot to give.
Released on June 16 of this year and published on the same Disney platform without any special access (which Pixar liked little, and they are right) Luca tells the story of a child / sea monster of the same name, part of a species that has the ability to assume human form upon surfacing. Luca is an extremely curious child and in his eagerness to get to know the land he ends up running away from his family, here he runs into Alberto Scorfano, another monster who lives the life he wants.
All this takes place in the Italian Riviera of the 60s.
For me it is quite curious how Luca's story is so simple but at the same time it is so difficult for me to summarize it, why? Because contrary to works like Soul or Inside Out, the approach this time does not focus so much on the complexity of the laws that govern their universes, but on having an intimate nature that allows to properly develop characters with whom it is easy to empathize.
Of course this is a double-edged sword that will not satisfy those looking for a more dense experience, I, on the contrary, find myself delighted with the simplicity of it.
Don't get me wrong, Luca is not an empty or heartless experience, but he has a focus on an unusual place for animations of this caliber.
A fun and moving adventure that anyone of any age can enjoy, which tells us about discrimination, innocence, ambitions and the value of friendship. All wrapped up in spectacular designs with the Pixar seal of quality that take full advantage of their own medium.
Directed by Enrico Casarosa, who brilliantly captures the nostalgic Italian atmosphere, Luca is a light story that could be classified as unambitious (in the best sense of the word).
A technical marvel that deserves more than one viewing just for the beauty of its presentation.

Recientemente escribí un post en un tono bastante introspectivo en el cual describo mi experiencia con Pixar y de forma más específica la razón por la cual considero Monster Inc como mi cinta favorita de ellos desde que era un niño.
La razón por la que traigo ese tema a colación es porque primero: siento que mis expectativas fueron superadas con Luca y segundo: dicho post sirve para complementar las ideas que expondré al respecto.
Contrario a Soul (Pelicula que se estrenó en el acceso premium de Disney Plus con bombos y platillos) podría decirse que Luca ha pasado un poco desaparecida y la verdad eso es bastante lamentable, considerando que tiene muchísimo por dar.
Estrenada el 16 de junio de este año y publicada en la misma plataforma de Disney sin ningún tipo de acceso especial (Cosa que a Pixar le gustó poco, y tienen razón) Luca narra la historia de un niño/monstruo marino del mismo nombre, parte de una especie que tiene la capacidad de asumir forma humana al salir a la superficie. Luca es un Niño extremadamente curioso y en su afán por conocer la tierra termina huyendo de su familia, aquí se topa con Alberto Scorfano, otro monstruo que vive la vida que el desea.
Todo esto transcurre en la Riviera Italiana de los años 60s.
Para mi es bastante curioso como la historia de Luca es tan sencilla pero al mismo tiempo se me dificulta tanto resumirla, ¿Por qué? Porque contrario a obras como Soul o Inside Out el acercamiento esta vez no se enfoca tanto en la complejidad de las leyes que rigen sus universos, sino en tener una naturaleza íntima que permita desarrollar apropiadamente personajes con los que es fácil empatizar.
Por supuesto esto es un arma de doble filo que no va a dejar tan satisfechos a aquellos que busquen una experiencia más densa, yo, por el contrario, me encuentro encantado con su simpleza.
No me malinterpreten, Luca no es una experiencia vacía o sin corazón, pero tiene un enfoque en un lugar poco usual para las animaciones de este calibre.
Una aventura divertida y conmovedora que cualquier persona de cualquier edad podrá disfrutar, que nos habla de la discriminación, la inocencia, las ambiciones y el valor de la amistad. Todo envuelto en diseños espectaculares con el sello de calidad Pixar que aprovechan totalmente su propio medio.
Dirigida por Enrico Casarosa, quien plasma de manera brillante la atmosfera nostálgica italiana, Luca es un relato ligero que podría tacharse de poco ambicioso (En el mejor sentido de la palabra).
Una maravilla técnica que merece más de un visionado solo por lo bonito de su presentación.
