Unlike Pixar, my passion for Disney films is a bit more intermittent, not because I consider them bad but because I do not feel such a deep connection with the issues they handle, I am happy to say that Raya is the exception.
Raya is a film that mixes a beautiful Western aesthetic with a message that, although it may seem accessible in the first place, from an adult perspective gives us a lot of depth.

Currently, Benja, the chief of one of these tribes, trains his daughter, Raya, as a guardian of the gem and decides to call a meeting seeking peace from all other tribes, triggering all the events that we see in the film.
The first thing we must understand is that posing the plot in this way oversimplifies its story, which is full of many cultural and aesthetic details. The second is that all these facts are nothing more than a motor to tell a beautiful story about trust and faith in humanity.

It is a dynamic that breaks with the typical duality that Disney usually presents, it is not about playing twist villian but about understanding why humans make the decisions they make, and seeing how to penetrate their hearts.
In the journey that Raya later faces to save the world, we understand that things should not be so polarized, and that although blind trust is not always the solution, diplomacy is usually the best way to resolve any conflict. Why? Because specifically in this situation it starts from empathy.
This film shows us an organic world, with broken people who have suffered the consequences of their own actions, people who eventually make an active effort to break this destructive cycle and improve together as a society.
All these dense themes are accompanied by a beautiful visual and musical display that feels familiar and exotic at the same time. With a very focused identity and no desire to force humor where it does not fit, Raya is one of the strongest animated films that Disney has produced today, where there is something for the whole family.
For the children? An exciting adventure full of funny characters with whom it is extremely easy to empathize, which apart, leaves a very good teaching, for adults? An optimistic portrait of human nature, with surprisingly logical keys to face the hard times that we live, all in society, as a team.
A diferencia de Pixar, mi pasión por el cine de Disney es un poco más intermitente, no porque las considere malas sino porque no siento una conexión tan profunda con los temas que manejan, me alegra decir que Raya es la excepción.
Raya es una película que mezcla una hermosa estética occidental con un mensaje que aunque pueda parecer accesible en primer lugar, desde una óptica adulta nos da mucha profundidad.

Lo primero que debemos entender es que plantear la trama de esta forma simplifica excesivamente su historia, la cual esta llena de gran cantidad de detalles culturales y estéticos. Lo segundo, es que todos estos hechos no son más que un motor para contar una hermosa historia sobre confianza y fe en la humanidad.

Es una dinámica que rompe con la típica dualidad que Disney suele presentar, no se trata de jugar al twist villian sino de comprender el por qué los humanos toman las decisiones que toman, y ver como penetrar sus corazones.
En el viaje que Raya afronta posteriormente para salvar el mundo entendemos que las cosas no deben ser tan polarizadas, y que si bien confiar ciegamente no siempre es la solución, la diplomacia suele ser la mejor forma de resolver cualquier conflicto, ¿Por qué? Porque específicamente en esta situación parte de la empatía.
Esta película nos muestra un mundo orgánico, con gente rota que ha sufrido las consecuencias de sus propias acciones, gente que eventualmente hace un esfuerzo activo por romper ese ciclo destructivo y mejorar en conjunto como sociedad.
Todos estos temas tan densos se ven acompañados de un despliegue visual y musical hermoso, que se siente familiar y exótico a la vez. Con una identidad muy enfocada y sin ganas de forzar humor en donde no entra, Raya es una de las películas animadas mas sólidas que ha producido Disney en la actualidad, en donde hay algo para toda la familia.
¿Para los niños? Una emocionante aventura llena de personajes divertidos con los que es extremadamente fácil empatizar, que aparte, deja una muy buena enseñanza, ¿Para los adultos? Un retrato optimista de la naturaleza humana, con claves sorprendentemente lógicas para afrontar los tiempos tan duros que vivimos, todos en sociedad, como un equipo.
