Scarface is one of those films that I adore but are so embedded in my subconscious that it is a bit difficult for me to approach them for a traditional review, considered one of the most iconic contemporary films that have been created, the story of Tony Montana and his unstoppable rise as a gangster in Miami is magnetic for several reasons and today I would like to analyze (at least on a personal level) why.

Scarface es una de esas películas que adoro pero se encuentran tan clavadas en mi subconsciente que me es un poco difícil abordarlas para una reseña tradicional, considerado como uno de los filmes contemporáneos más icónicos que se han creado, la historia de Tony Montana y su imparable asenso como gangster en Miami es magnética por muchísimas razones y hoy quisiera repasar (Al menos en un nivel personal) el por qué.

Scarface es una obra impecable desde el punto de vista técnico y artístico, desde la dirección que brinda De Palma, hasta la genial actuación de su protagonista interpretado por Al Pacino, pasando por una bella banda sonora compuesta por Giorgo Moroder (Si, el padre de la música electrónica y aquel que tuvo un featuring con Daft Punk).

Scarface es una película que busca retratar literal y figurativamente cuál es el precio del poder, mostrando por un lado los atractivos excesos que implican una vida llena de dinero y crimen, pero al mismo tiempo es capaz de recalcar el camino de violencia necesario para conseguir todo esto y lo fungible de sus posteriores frutos.

En ningún momento se supone que empaticemos con el, aunque sea inevitable sentirse atraído por los lujos que le acompañan y su capacidad por hacer lo que le plazca, lo que en un principio puede sonar como libertad absoluta termina siendo irónicamente todo lo contrario: Tony es un esclavo de las consecuencias de sus propios excesos.

Podría pasarme horas y horas debatiendo lo hermoso de la cinematografía, lo bueno de las actuaciones o su música… el punto es que para mi aunque todo está bien ejecutado ese no es el verdadero fuerte de Scarface, El Fuerte de Scarface está en su impecable mensaje qué pasa por encima de las cabezas de muchos de sus espectadores.
