I feel that as viewers today we are often predisposed to attack remakes and adaptations, without stopping to analyze their real value, leaving aside any iota of partiality resulting from our nostalgia and personal connection with many series, movies, and works of pop culture in general.
This is something totally understandable, throughout our lives we consume too much content and a high percentage of this deep inlet in our hearts, we protect it tooth and nail.
Today I would like to talk about how I feel that we must change, leave our prejudices behind and understand that remakes are also an art (In a way), which represents a creative challenge for its creators, working with a clear framework, having to choose with extreme care. what to keep and what not in the new version.
Unfortunately, the recent leak of the pilot script for a remake of The Powerpuff Girls planned by the CW does not help my arguments, it is a total disaster.
Let's go in parts, for a few months they have been shooting a couple of news in this regard, in April this year images of Chloe Bennett, Dove Cameron and Yana Perrault began to circulate in full set filming the pilot episode, they would play Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup respectively. The images, at least without context, leave much to be desired, although the costumes correspond to what was seen in the original animated series, they seem a forced attempt to resort to nostalgia to draw attention, fan-service without much substance.
This of course unleashed a wave of jokes, sweet comments and other bitter, typical of the internet. But the straw that broke the camel's back was when on May 25 the script I told you about earlier leaks. Which does not skimp on putting the "girls" in an environment +18 that more than outrage us leaves us confused about the intentions of the CW.
So what is the point of this post? As I mentioned at the beginning, I would fail my principles if I did not try to give the script a chance, or at least the most prominent fragments that were shot on the internet.
Being optimistic, the idea of remaking Powerpuff Girl is not as terrible as it might sound at first, released in 1998 and created by Craig McMcraken, it is one of the most iconic animations of all Cartoon Network, a work that built a dense universe and imaginative, full of charismatic and varied characters, and everything, seems to fit very well with the times.
It is also a generational issue, those of us who grew up with the original series are already a bit grown, this means two things: 1. We can appreciate the original story with our adult perspective. 2. We can feel more easily identified with a continuation that seeks to bring its issues to the present (See the Toy Story 3 case).

And what is the mistake? The mistake is disrespecting the original spirit, it does not bother the fact that it seeks to be NSFW, but it does so without any clear purpose beyond being edgy and daring to attract the attention of a very specific target. The Powerpuff Girls remake isn't even comfortable with the lore of its original series, totally omitting bits of its myth that led to its success.
It's unfortunate that a couple of good ideas are overshadowed by a heartless mess, which feels more like the product of a couple of meetings of old executives than a creation with a soul of its own, made by people who had a passion for their characters.
The Powerpuff Girls remake seeks to introduce meta-narrative elements, for example, and it is a very interesting idea on paper, because it allows the work itself to explore the impact of its origins and how the passage of time has affected it, but in the end, everything this does not serve for more than to make a plagiarism of decaffeinated watchmen, where the girls are rejected by society, in another quest to deconstruct the myth of the super-hero (What we see every day in Hollywood today).
In the end, it does not matter how much they seek to delay its premiere, introduce new elements or change pre-existing ones, the problem with this remake is not the fact that it is a remake, but the fact that it was made without real love, by people who He doesn't understand what the original series did was succeed. So we must settle for this cold and corporate work, measured with horrible cynicism to succeed with a very specific group of people.
And the worst of all is that at least out of curiosity we will all see the first episode.

Hoy quisiera hablar de como siento que debemos cambiar, dejar atrás nuestros prejuicios y entender que los remakes también son una arte (En cierta forma), que representa a sus creadores un desafío creativo, trabajando con un marco claro, teniendo que escoger con extremo cuidado que mantener y que no en la nueva versión.
Lastimosamente, la reciente filtración del guion del piloto de un remake de The Powerpuff Girls planeado por la CW no ayuda a mis argumentos, es un total desastre.
Vamos por partes, desde hace unos meses han venido rodando un par de noticias al respecto, en abril de este año empezaron a circular imágenes de Chloe Bennett, Dove Cameron y Yana Perrault en pleno set filmando el episodio piloto, ellas interpretarían a Bombom, Burbuja y Bellota respectivamente. Las imágenes, al menos sin contexto, dejan mucho que desear, aunque los trajes corresponden con lo visto en la serie animada original, parecen un intento forzado de acudir a la nostalgia para jalar atención, fan-service sin mucha sustancia.
Esto por supuesto desató una ola de chistes, comentarios dulces y otros amargos, lo típico de internet. Pero la gota que derramó el vaso fue cuando el 25 de mayo se filtra el guión del que les hablé anteriormente. El cual no escatima en poner a las "chicas" en un ambiente +18 que más que indignarnos nos deja confundidos sobre las intenciones de the CW.
Entonces, ¿Cual es el punto de este post? como mencioné al principio, fallaría a mis principios si no intento darle una oportunidad al guión, o al menos a los fragmenos más prominentes que rodaron en internet.
Siendo optimista, la idea de rehacer Powerpuff Girl no es tan terrible como podría sonar en un principio, estrenada en 1998 y creada por Craig McMcraken, se trata de una de las animaciones más icónicas de todo Cartoon Network, una obra que construyó un universo denso e imaginativo, lleno de personajes carismaticos y variados, y todo, parece amoldarse muy bien a los tiempo que corren.
También es una cuestión generacional, los que crecimos con la serie original ya estamos un poco crecidos, esto supone dos cosas: 1. Podemos apreciar la historia original con nuestra perspectiva adulta. 2. Podemos sentirnos identificados más facilmente con una continuación que busque llevar sus temas a la actualidad (Véase el caso Toy Story 3).

¿Y cual es el error? El error es irrespetar el espíritu original, no molesta el hecho de que busca ser NSFW, sino que lo hace sin ningún propósito claro más allá de ser edgy y atrevido para llamar la atención de un target muy específico. The Powerpuff Girls remake ni siquiera se siente cómodo con el lore de su serie originaria, omitiendo totalmente fragmentos de su mito que la llevaron al éxito.
Es lamentable que un par de buenas ideas se vean opacadas por un desastre desalmado, que se siente más como el producto de un par de reuniones de viejos ejecutivos que una creación con alma propia, hecha por gente que sentía pasión por sus personajes.
El remake de Powerpuff Girls busca introducir elementos meta-narrativos, por ejemplo, y es una idea interesantísima en papel, porque permite que la propia obra explore el impacto de sus orígenes y como le ha afectado el paso del tiempo, pero al final, todo esto no sirve para más que para hacer un plagio de watchmen descafeinado, en donde las chicas son rechazadas por la sociedad, en otra búsqueda de deconstruir el mito del super-heroe (Lo que vemos todos los días actualmente en hollywood).
Al final no importa que tanto busquen atrasar su estreno, introducir nuevos elementos o cambiar los pre-existentes, el problema de este remake no es el hecho de que sea un remake, sino el hecho de que fue hecho sin amor real, por gente que no entiende que hizo fue la serie original triunfara. Entonces debemos conformarnos con esta obra fría y coporativa, medida con un cinismo horrible para triunfar con un grupo de gente muy espécifica.
Y lo peor de todo es que al menos por morbo todos veremos el primer episodio.
