As someone who has spent a considerable portion of his life watching series, I don't think there is a genre of them that I appreciate as much as comedies... and I feel like I'm not the only one who thinks this.
Although considering the subjective nature of humor, it is relatively easy to do "something" that makes "someone" laugh, we usually underestimate the effort required to create a series of high quality, there are many that are entertaining by definition, but few are really good.
I've recently been catching up on the third season of What We Do in the Shadows and I feel like in that humble piece of television it's pretty clear why it's one of the strongest sitcoms going.
Created by Taika Waititi, WWDITS could be briefly defined as a mockumentary where we follow the lives of 4 vampires in present-day New York, based on a movie of the same name, the cornerstone of humor in WWDITS lies in the small stories that cleverly mix fish-out-of-water elements with dark, twisted, or comedic vampire lore.
The first season was wonderful and its sequel smartly doubled down, so what's left for season four?
Although it retains its episode format and the simplicity of most of its conflicts, WWDITS knows how to put its characters in a very funny position that knows how to intelligently take advantage of the cliffhanger of the previous season. Nadja, Landor and Lazslo end up taking control of the vampiric council which leads to many crazy adventures.
The strength of this season is the growing confidence that its writers have with their own plot, including elements that develop chapter by chapter without isolating those who seek a more isolated and episodic experience.
Everything else, of course, is still very neat: the direction is great, the writing is perfect, the atmosphere is so good that it doesn't make sense... in short, an excellent product from any technical and artistic aspect.
WWDITS plays with its horror elements very cleverly and it's hard not to have absolute faith that subsequent seasons (hopefully there are) will be just as good.
Cómo alguien que ha pasado una porción considerable de su vida viendo series, no creo que exista un género de ellas que aprecie tanto como las comedias... y siento que no soy el único que piensa esto.

Recientemente he estado poniéndome al día con la tercera temporada de What we do in the Shadows y siento que en esa humilde pieza de televisión es bastante claro por qué es una de las comedias más solidas en la actualidad.
Creada por Taika Waititi, WWDITS se podría definir de forma resumida como un mockumentary en dónde seguimos la vida de 4 vampiros en el Nueva York de la actualidad, basada en una película del mismo nombre la piedra angular del humor en WWDITS radica en las pequeñas historias que mezclan inteligentemente elementos de pez fuera del agua con un lore vampírico oscuro, retorcido u comedico.
La primera temporada fue maravillosa y su secuela dobló la apuesta de forma inteligente, entonces, ¿Que nos queda en esta cuarta temporada?
Aunque retiene su formato episodio y la simpleza de la mayoría de sus conflictos, WWDITS sabe poner a sus personajes en una posición muy divertida que aprovecha con inteligencia el cliffhanger de la previa temporada. Nadja, Landor y Lazslo terminan tomando el control del vampiric council lo cual da paso a muchas aventuras bastante alocadas.
El fuerte de esta temporada está en la creciente confianza que tienen sus escritores con su propio argumento, incluyendo elementos que se desarrollan capítulo a capitulo sin aislar a aquellos que buscan una experiencia más aislada y episódica.
Todo lo demás, por supuesto, sigue siendo muy prolijo: la dirección es estupenda, el writing es perfecto, la atmósfera es tan buena que no tiene sentido... en fin, un producto excelente desde cualquier aspecto técnico y artístico.
WWDITS jugetea con sus elementos terroríficos de forma muy inteligente y es difícil no tener fe absoluta en que las temporadas posteriores (Que ojalá existan) serán igual de buenas.
