Although I feel that Pixar is one of the studios with the most prolific film history in the world, I cannot deny that most of the films that are part of this catalog do not matter to me, I do not know if it will be a generational issue but although I value Its technical and narrative results very few films seem worthy of more than one viewing, the recent Soul (For example) seemed brilliant to me from many angles, but it remained as a very specific piece that I will not see again for a long time.
By this same logic but in reverse I would say that Monster Inc is my favorite studio film, the 2001 classic directed by Pete Doctor and starring the iconic duo of John Goodman and Billy Cristal won my heart in the middle of my childhood, giving as a result, it played the vhs tape through and through, almost mechanically absorbing every one of its brilliant details.
If I had to synthesize reason in one word it would be "creativity". Monster Inc immerses us in a universe full of imagination and many possibilities, with brilliant designs and concepts that connect with each other in an organic way.
It has always seemed a bit strange to me that movies like Toy Story have more relevance for the general viewer, I know that they also operate under very interesting premises but I am not so strongly awakened by the spark of childhood fantasy (Although I admit that they had a huge impact) .
The story of James P. Sullivan and Mike Wazowsky with little Boo is as brilliant as it is adorable, serving as an excuse to take us to incredible scenarios as only Pixar knows how to achieve.
There is a level of visual pampering that achieves in me a nostalgic effect that few franchises achieve, which is connected with narrative details that the whole family (From the oldest to the smallest) will be able to appreciate.
Although on several occasions I have made comments in a very negative tone regarding Disney Plus, I must admit that it is great that thanks to him we have a window to consume all these great movies, reliving then the days when I watched that tape non-stop.
I got to have stuffed animals, toys, sheets and clothes from Monster Inc, and my connection with her has such a strange nature that even today I can hardly describe it, I just feel it.
At first I mentioned with a bit of cynicism that my lack of interest in most of Pixar films could be the product of something generational, and the reason I mentioned that is because at the same time I feel that this indescribable connection that I have a A children's film from the beginning of the millennium can be felt by many with Cars, Toy Story, Inside Out or more recent films like Soul or Luca (which I hope to review myself).
While it's great to dissect movies and coldly evaluate them I feel like it's important that we connect with our Inner Child, and understand a little bit (retroactively) that led us to the things we love in the first place.
For me the idea of an apparently isolated door from any room but with the ability to take you to any part of the world (Or to another world full of monsters) was great, maybe for you the idea that your toys move and charge is great. consciousness when you are not seeing them, or what little creatures inhabit inside us that direct our emotions.
That's the magic of Pixar, that's the magic of movies.
Aunque siento que Pixar es uno de los estudios con un historial de películas más prolijos en todo el mundo, no puedo negar que la mayoría de las películas que forman parte de este catálogo me dan igual, no sé si será una cuestión generacional pero aunque valoro sus resultados en lo técnico y narrativo muy pocas cintas me parecen merecedoras de más de un visionado, la reciente Soul (Por ejemplo) me pareció brillante desde muchos ángulos, pero quedó como una pieza muy específica que no volveré a ver en mucho tiempo.
Por esta misma lógica pero a la inversa diría que Monster Inc es mi cinta favorita del estudio, el clásico de 2001 dirigido por Pete Doctor y protagonizado por el dúo icónico de John Goodman y Billy Cristal se ganó mi corazón en medio de mi infancia, dando como resultado que reprodujera la cinta del vhs hasta el hartazgo, absorbiendo de manera casi mecánica cada uno de sus brillantes detalles.
Si tuviese que sintetizar la razón en una palabra sería “creatividad” Monster Inc nos sumerge en un universo lleno de imaginación y muchísimas posibilidades, con diseños brillantes y conceptos que se conectan entre sí de forma orgánica.
Siempre me ha parecido un poco extraño que para el espectador general películas como Toy Story tengan más relevancia, sé que también operan bajo premisas muy interesantes pero no me despierta la chispa de la fantasía infantil con tanta fuerza (Aunque reconozco que tuvieron un impacto grandísimo).
La historia de James P. Sullivan y Mike Wazowsky con la pequeña Boo es tan brillante como adorable, sirviendo aparte de excusa para llevarnos a escenarios increíbles como solo Pixar sabe lograr.
Existe un nivel de mimo visual que logra en mi un efecto nostálgico que pocas franquicias alcanzan, lo cual conectado con detalles narrativos que toda la familia (Desde los más grandes a los más pequeños) podrán apreciar.
Aunque en varias ocasiones he emitido comentarios en un tono bastante negativo respecto a Disney Plus debo admitir que es genial que gracias a él tengamos una ventana para consumir todas estas grandes películas, reviviendo entonces los días en los cuales veía dicha cinta sin parar.
Llegué a tener peluches, juguetes, sábanas y ropa de Monster Inc, y mi conexión con ella tiene una naturaleza tan extraña que aún hoy en día me cuesta describirla, solo la siento.
Al principio mencionaba con un poco de cinismo que mi falta de interés por la mayoría e las cintas de Pixar podría ser producto de algo generacional, y la razón por la que mencioné eso es porque al mismo tiempo siento que esa conexión indescriptible que cuento con una película infantil del principio del milenio muchos pueden sentirla con Cars, Toy Story, Inside Out o cintas más recientes como Soul o Luca (La cual espero reseñar propio).
Aunque es genial diseccionar las películas y evaluarlas con frialdad siento que es importante que conectemos con nuestro Niño interno, y entendamos un poco (de manera retroactiva) que nos llevó en primer lugar a las cosas que amamos.
Para mi era genial la idea de una puerta aparentemente aislada de cualquier cuarto pero con la capacidad de llevarte a cualquier parte del mundo (O a otro mundo lleno de monstruos), quizá para ti sea genial la idea de que tus juguetes se mueven y cobran conciencia cuando no los estás viendo, o qué dentro de nosotros habitan pequeñas criaturas que dirigen nuestras emociones.
Esa es la magia de Pixar, esa es la magia de las películas.
