MY FAVORITE TV SERIES
Don' get me wrong, I like many of the present series. I can say I'm addicted to some of them. But the fact is... every 2, maximum 3 years I watch Seinfeld once again. I don't plan it, I don't think about it, I just start watching that Pilot episode and all of a sudden I have the mission to watch the 9 seasons.
Why?! I don't know.
The show had everything to fail but it's superb.
1. It really is about nothing... but that made it different from every other, because it's about nothing in particular but becomes about the daily life of a group of friends. We may not have a George in our friends list, or an ex-girlfriend as unique as Elaine. We certainly don't have a neighbor like Kramer and probably not a successful comedian friend like Jerry. The thing is, these characters are so different from one another that we end up finding some similarities with ourselves and our friends.
Or...
we wish we had some of those experiences in our lives. Most of us don't have that dream job or qualifications but we continue our lives and don't lie about it. Oh... but we wish we could!

And what about changing our fictitious job whenever it fits us... that would be nice. I could even become a Marine Biologist.

George is more than a person who lies about jobs. He is a very special character will low self esteem, sometimes unemployed, very cautious with money and often not doing well with ladies.
We might also envy Jerry because he lives a peaceful life without great worries. He does his shows, sometimes has to travel but we don't usually see him suffering or complaining. He's just fine, doing what he likes and making enough money. When things get better he even buys his father a Cadillac. He does well with ladies (Ok, there was Marla)... And I always wanted to have that amount of cereals in my kitchen!
How can we relate to Elaine? Well, she has some reasons to complain. Things at work are not always good and she has a crazy boss. Some of us can understand her. She's a lousy dancer and she is not lucky with boyfriends and dating either.

I guess Kramer is a hyperbole of our most crazy and weird friends. He has no job but doesn't seem to need it. He clearly lacks social abilities but at the same time he does unexpectedly well in several situations that require human relationships, like belonging to a golf club.

2. For a TV series, it has a bit of stand-up comedy resemblance in the sense that Jerry (all of them but mostly Jerry) constantly smiles during the scenes because... that's him! In any other show this would not be tolerated and there would be many more hours of bloopers. He's acting the best he can but he just can't stop smiling. He's a comedian, not an actor, people were used to watch him perform stand-up comedy and just doesn't seem to care that he's laughing all the time. I sure don't! They all were enjoying so much their work that I actually like it that way.
3. Too long? No, No and No! A 9 season series was not that usual back then. It could have been too long but it wasn't. They made it because they had the material and the energy to do it. We all know the modern way of doing things: a new season that is usually worse than the previous, a good movie that turns into a bad trilogy, etc. This is not like that at all! It's just perfect.
Where are they now?
Jerry Seinfeld is now 62. He's been busy writing and acting, besides performing stand-up comedy. His most prominent work was probably Comedians in cars getting coffe
Jason Alexander is 57 and he doesn't seem to stop working. He has been doing a lot of acting in movies, has several appearances in tv series and have participated in soundtracks as well.
Julia Louise-Dreyfus is now 55. She continued to act mostly in TV Shows (currently in TV series "Veep").
Michael Richards is 67. His last acting job was in the TV series "Kristen" (2013-2014). After that he only had occasional participation in some shows.
And now the best of
