  1. Seinfeld: The comedy gold that never gets old@netflixr1257d

When this show was first on air way back in the 80's and 90's I was alive and had other things going on in my life and therefore didn't pay it very much attention. I had no idea how great this show is because I guess I was involved in other things like going to college and being very interested in girls.

I still didn't pay it much attention even after they had long-since stopped making them in 1998. People would have the entire series on DVD and I never thought to even watch it.

I know that i am very late to the party but this show is absolutely amazing and I understand why people consider it to be one of the most influential sitcoms of all time.

For people that have never seen the show and perhaps even live in remote areas, I would imagine that they recognize the above people, even though they might not be exactly sure why.

It is one of the most successful shows of all time and had 20-nearly 40 million people that tuned in to watch the 22-minute episodes every week. As far as financial success is concerned it is absolutely immense. It is difficult to determine exactly how much money is made these days but the main 4 actors still make millions per year off of it and every time the rights to broadcast it change Jerry Seinfeld ends up raking in sometimes hundreds of millions of dollars.

When the show first started out Seinfeld was only making $20,000 per episode but this quickly doubled and then doubled again. By the time the final season was upon us Jerry was making a cool million per episode and at that point he had so much money that when the studios offered him $5 million per episode or $100 million to do just one more season. At that point in his life Jerry was so wealthy that he flat out refused it and says now that he never even considered it. It is difficult for all of us peons to imagine turning down $100 million for a year's work, but that is exactly what he did.

The thing that is really special about Seinfeld is that the show is kind of timeless. Sure the technology in the show such as everyone using land lines for the most part is dated now that everyone and their goat has a mobile phone, but the comedy in the show isn't really attached to any particular point in time or current event. Most of the scenarios are completely made up and don't rely on people being aware of what happened to be going on in the world at that particular point in time at all. The celebrities cameos are almost always the celebrities playing themselves so that is kind a nice little walk through time as well.

Some episodes are more famous than others and for me the one that basically everyone knows is the one about the "Soup Nazi" which as it turns out is based on a real person that made amazing soup and really did have a lot of rules if you wanted to be able to purchase anything in his store. Lots of Jerry's material comes from experiences that he had in his own life and as a stand-up comedian, I suppose that is his job. The fact that he plays himself in the show and is a comedian in the show, is just quite perfect and maybe was really easy for him to pull off. He didn't have to pretend to be Jerry, because he IS Jerry.

There are a total of 9 seasons of Seinfeld and 7 of them contain at least 20 episodes at 22-24 minutes each. The best thing (the best Jerry!) about the show is that you can just choose a random episode and start there because very little of what happens in the show is at all dependent on things that happened already in previous episodes. The writers were very clever to build the show this way because now you don't need the backstory in order to just jump in anywhere. This is something that scares me away from other shows because I am not going to watch 3 seasons of something just to get up to speed on what is happening in the current season.

I'm kind of surprised at myself for not giving this show a chance until over 20 years after they stopped making them but in a way I am glad that this happened because now most of the episodes are something that is totally new to me. I do think that for me this show will be something that I can watch multiple times and not have it get old because it is just extremely well-written.

This is actually one of just a handful of good shows that Netflix has maintained their contract with and at least for now, they are secure to keep the rights to the show for at least another year. Netflix is pretty closed-lipped about how much they pay for stuff, but there are rumors that they had to pay $500 million for global exclusive streaming rights to the show.

If you haven't ever watched it I think you are in for a treat and you should probably go ahead and give it a shot!

The truth is that choosing a favorite classic series is more difficult than it seems, however I always decide to go for the comedy genre, since in my opinion it is much easier to watch single episodes so one sees said series in a certain way more constant, so today I want to talk about ...

It is my favorite classic series because it is the perfect series to watch any day, it does not need much attention, it is pure entertainment. I must admit that I saw this series relatively recently, it was not a series that I discovered as a child and grew up with it, not at all, it was more of an acquired taste, I always heard good reviews of this series and it definitely did not disappoint.

Para mi lo importante en una sitcom más que las situaciones como tal, es el como los personajes reaccionan y afrontan dichas situación, es aquí donde entra la importancia de tener buenos personas con personalidades y características marcadas, y esta serie lo tenía muy claro.

For me the important thing in a sitcom more than the situations as such, is how the characters react and face said situations, this is where the importance of having good people with marked personalities and characteristics comes in, and this series was very clear about it.

  3. Seinfeld is now offensive to SJW's@gooddream2733d

In the Social Justice Army's constant pursuit of ruining everything that is fun in life another iconic show, arguably one of the most successful of all time has been declared insensitive, oppressive, and offensive.

    77A9C941-A0AB-475A-8FD4-B8B940341ABA.png source

Among the various reasons why this show is too offensive to be watched by anyone is that there are too many white people on the show. That most of the time, the episodes contain only Jerry and his other white friends. As if it was that unusual for people who constitute nearly 70% of the population to be primarily white. This isn't terribly surprising to hear this brought up because some people just have to make everything about race.

    90d.jpg source

One of the things they focus on quite a lot just happens to be from one of the most beloved episodes of the entire series: The one that focuses on "the soup nazi." I bet you can't guess why they thought this episode was offensive! It is because the person depicted as the soup Nazi is not a white person. Let's forget about the fact that the character is based on a real life person named Ali "Al" Yeganeh, who is Persian. However, this just infuriated the SJW's even more because the actor who played the soup Nazi is Larry Thomas, who is of Russian and Romanian background.

    kramer_-The_Cigar_Store_Indian.jpg source

Another episode featured a cigar store Indian and this was deemed "racist" despite the fact that the entire episode is about Jerry and his friends trying really hard to not use any insensitive language when referring to the statue or any thing Native-American related. I mean the entire episode is basically a PSA for using appropriate language in order to not hurt anyone's feelings... but this wasn't good enough for the perpetually offended masses.

This is the famous Soup Nazi skit. You be the judge: Is it in any way offensive to anyone? Or is it just a joke? I can not get on board with these judgemental people that are so privileged that they can't find enough to be offended by today so they dig 20 years in the past desperately searching for something to whine about. I really find them to be the most irritating part of life today. Consequently Jerry himself blames young people for making everything so sensitive these days and this is the reason why he refuses to do any comedy shows in college towns or on college campuses.

  4. 'Seinfeld' By Larry David & Jerry Seinfeld Review@namiks2974d

    Seinfeld.jpg

As the characters in the show have referred to the show, Seinfeld is a show in which basically nothing really happens. There's no set goal for that characters throughout the series, and each episode's narrative focuses on day-to-day activities for a normal person, but featuring their dysfunctional actions and thoughts.

Seinfeld, for the most part, follows comedian Jerry Seinfeld and his close group of friends that are each struggling to get through adult life with their lack of social skills and general idiocies; Kramer, a character based on someone Larry David once lived near, is wholesome but always coming up with crazy money-making schemes and miraculously manages to stumble across financial gains, despite his overall lack of intelligence. George Constanza, based on Larry David himself, is a complete social screw-up and always getting into easily-avoidable situations due to his overthinking of things. Elaine Benes is probably the most normal of the group, coming from a well-off family and often being the voice of reason.

With the characters being close, easily recognisable and different in their own ways, it allows the excellent comedic writing of Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld to take over and throw them into the worst environments they'd consider. No need for a clear narrative, just throw a few inconveniences at the characters and allow their personalities to take over. It's an incredibly simplistic show, and that's exactly how it become so successful. Outside of the writing, the casting is perfect. The chemistry and friendships between the actors feels so natural, so authentic that it's hard to look at the actors without feeling as if they are those characters, living their chaotic lives and attempting to get by.

Seinfeld brings in a new form of storytelling, sticking almost entirely to character development. It's a refreshing, and enjoyable structure that resulted in a plethora of other sitcoms attempting to carry on that style -- Friends is a close competitor, but certainly not on the same level as Seinfeld -- and it's impressing that Seinfeld was capable of lasting nine entire seasons, with around twenty episodes per season.
