The human being is invested in large projects where billions of dollars are spent to find something that makes them earn money and fame, and even things that do not exist, and in that eagerness they forget the essential, the loved ones, and even of themselves and the planet where they live.
Today I want to write some reflections on the film Ad Astra that shows precisely the above, this is a science fiction film that has a lot of suspense, it stars Brad Pitt as the astronaut Roy McBride and Tommy Lee Jones as the astronaut H. Clifford, the latter being the father of Roy and a legendary hero of the space missions.
I must warn there will be some spoilers!
El ser humano se empeña en grandes proyectos donde se gastan miles de millones de dólares para buscar cualquier cosa que los haga ganar dinero y fama, e incluso cosas que no existen, y en esa afán se olvidan de lo escencial, de los seres queridos e incluso de ellos mismos y del planeta donde viven. Hoy quiero escribir algunas reflexiones sobre la película Ad Astra que muestra precisamente lo arriba expuesto, este es un film de ciencia ficción que tiene mucho suspenso, está protagonizada por Brad Pit como el atronauta Roy McBride y Tommy Lee Jones como el artronauta H. Clifford, este último padre de Roy y un heroe lejendario de las misiones espaciales. ¡Debo advertir que habrá spoilers!
Roy is an excellent astronaut just like his father, capable of controlling his emotions to the point that he looks like a robot, he is cold and almost expressionless, he broke up with his partner and he is a lonely man with his mind always focused on work. His father behaved the same way but, unlike his son, he was very violent and angry, he beat his wife and was not interested in his family, only work and fulfilling his space missions, which he did perfectly.
Roy, al igual que su padre es un excelente astronauta, capaz de controlar sus emociones a tal punto que parece un robot, es frío y casi inexpresivo, él está separado de su pareja y es un hombre solitario con la mente siempre concentrada en el trabajo; su padre se comportaba igual pero, a diferencia de su hijo, este era muy violento e iracundo, golpeaba a su esposa y no le interesaba su familia, solo el trabajo y cumplir con sus misiones espaciales, cosa que hacía a la perfección.
Due to a series of events, Roy embarks on a long and lonely journey to Neptune in search of his progenitor. On that trip the equanimous astronaut experiences a series of mental disorders due to loneliness, he begins to remember the mistreatment of his father, as well as memories of his mother, and his partner, all this leads Roy to undergo a transformation, he realizes that he is like his father, but in a passive way and he begins to think that his life is something more than space missions, that he must return to his partner and seek to make a family and even try to rebuild the relationship with his beloved father whom he loves deeply.
Debido a una serie de acontecimientos, Roy se embarca en un largo y solitario viaje hacia Neptuno en la búsqueda de su progenitor. En ese viaje el ecuanime astronauta experimenta una serie de trastornos mentales a causa de la soledad, comienza a recordar los maltratos de su padre, a su madre y a su pareja, todo esto lleva a Roy a sufrir una transformación, se da cuenta que él es igual que su padre, pero de una manera pasiva y comienza a pensar que su vida es algo más que las misiones espaciales, que debe volver con su pareja y buscar hacer una familia e incluso tratar de rehacer la relación con su querido padre al cual ama profundamente.
When Roy arrives at the station he becomes involved with his father, it is a meeting devoid of all emotion on the part of the two, even Clifford tells his son that he is not interested in anything, or anyone, that he wants to stay there. Roy must destroy the station and after much effort, he manages to convince his father to return to Earth, but when they are out of the station to board the ship back, H. Clifford changes his mind and decides not to return.
Cuando Roy llega a la estación se envuentra con su padre, es un encuentro carente de toda emoción por parte de los dos, incluso Clifford le dice a su hijo que no le interesa nada, ni nadie, que quiere quedarse allí. Roy debe destruir la estación y después de mucho esfuerzo logra convencer, a su padre de volver a la Tierra, pero cuando están fuera de la estación para abordar la nave de regreso, H. Clifford cambia de opinión y decide no volver.
Then comes a very emotional and strong scene, and for me the best of the film, Roy desperately tries to recover his father, who has broken the cord that held him, manages to grab him but they begin to fight, father and son struggling and moving, circling as if dancing in the middle of the immensity of the dark void of space with the tiny stars in the background as witnesses, one wants to save the other and the latter wanting to die.
Aquí hay una escena muy emotiva y fuerte, y para mí la mejor de la película, Roy trata de recuperar desesperadamente a su progenitor, quien ha roto el cordón que lo sujetaba a él, logra agarrarlo pero comienzan a pelear, padre e hijo forcejando y moviendose, dando vueltas como danzando en medio de la inmensidad del oscuro vacío del espacio con las diminutas estrellas en el fondo como testigos, uno queriendo salvar al otro y este último queriendo morir.
In the end the inevitable happens, Roy is forced to release his father to return to Earth, the station explodes in an immense explosion that helps to propel the ship that takes Roy back to his home, but he is no longer the same.
I highly recommend this film, it shows us that human beings should not suppress their feelings of love and affection in search of riches, fame, or something that surely does not even exist.
Al final sucede lo inevitable, Roy se ve forzado a soltar a su padre para volver Tierra, la estación estalla en una inmensa explosión que ayuda a impulsar a la nave que lleva a Roy de regreso a su hogar, pero ya él no es el mismo. Recomiendo ampliamente esta película, ella nos muestra que el ser humano no debe suprimir sus sentimientos de amor y cariño por la busaqueda de riquezas, fama o algo que seguramente ni siquiera existe.
