A Cozy Manga I Didn't Expect to Love | Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You (2022) Review

Review by @rookie2001 · 1d · of 148467

Hello Everyone! Hope you all are doing great.

Lately I've been trying to read more manga instead of just novels but I still enjoy reading books a lot and sometimes after a long day sitting down with a light manga feels easier. A few days ago I started reading Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You (2022). I read it on the Mihon app on my phone. I decided to give it a chance. I am really glad about that.

I had seen people recommending this manga online quite a few times and most of them described it as wholesome relaxing &, surprisingly emotional. At first I thought it would be a slice of life story. I would forget it after finishing. It stayed with me. After reading several chapters, I realized there is something special about it.

It just focuses on small conversations and, everyday moments with characters that slowly grow on you.

I noticed right away how calming the pacing is, nothing ever feels rushed. Every chapter feels like sitting down after a busy day. It is a quiet conversation. That kind of storytelling isn't for everyone. Personally I found it refreshing.

These days a lot of manga seem to move very fast and they introduce dozens of characters and, throw in crazy situations and keep trying to keep readers excited. This manga mostly does the opposite. It slows everything down and allows the small moments to do the work.

So some people call it slow and they are not wrong, but for me slow does not mean boring. Sometimes slower stories stay with you the longest.

Another thing I enjoyed is the chemistry between the main characters, and their interactions feel natural, you know. They do not always say what they are thinking. Because of that their conversations feel real.

Instead of dramatic speeches, you get awkward silences, little jokes, casual chats, &, moments that can make you smile without realizing it.

That is one of the biggest strengths of this manga cause it does not try too hard. Everything feels simple, yet meaningful.

I finished a chapter and just sat there smiling for a few seconds before moving on to the next.

The artwork deserves a lot of praise too.

So I'm not an art expert, but I do pause when Drawings stop me mid scroll, and the expressions in this manga really grab me. Small changes in facial expressions tell you what a character is feeling. They do not need lots of dialogue.

The backgrounds are detailed, whether it is inside the supermarket or outside during quieter moments, everything feels comfortable and lived in.

I also like how clean the panels are and nothing feels cluttered so reading on my phone through the Mihon app has been enjoyable. The screen will be smaller. I never will feel I will be struggling. I will understand what will be happening.

I was surprised because I prefer reading manga on a bigger screen, but this one is fine on my phone.

The atmosphere is probably my favorite thing about the entire series.

It's cozy.

That is honestly the best word I can think of.

Every chapter gives me the same relaxing feeling I get from reading Days at the Morisaki Bookshop or from watching slower anime that focus more on people than action.

So there is not a constant tension hanging over every page instead you get this warm feeling that makes you want to keep reading just one more chapter.

Before you realize it, you've read five or six chapters without noticing.

I definitely lost track of time more than once while reading.

Something else I appreciated was how mature the writing feels.

So even though the storey is simple on the surface, the conversations often carry small emotions underneath them, &, nothing is explained in a loud or Drmatic way, just in a quieter way. Readers notice the small details.

I like stories that do not treat the audience like they need every feeling spelled out.

A single expression can speak more than a page of dialogue.

That writing style makes the characters feel more believable.

Of course, no manga is perfect.

If you're someone who mainly enjoys action, fantasy battles, mysteries, or fast moving stories, this probably won't become your favorite series.

The story moves slowly.

It focuses on ordinary moments.

Some chapters may feel uneventful depending on your preferences.

But I think that is exactly what makes it stand out, instead of trying to compete with louder and, more dramatic series it confidently tells a quieter story.

And honestly, I respect that alot.

Reading a few chapters is easy during my free time.

I read it on my phone through the Mihon app when waiting or relaxing before bed.

It has become one of those manga that helps me slow down for a while.

I am taking my time to enjoy the journey instead of rushing to catch up.

That rarely happens for me.

Usually I binge everything as fast as possible.

Without going into spoiler territory, I think the biggest reason this manga works so well is because it understands that ordinary people can still have interesting stories.

Not every character needs a tragic past.

Not every chapter needs a cliffhanger.

Two people talking can be enough when the writing is good.

That sounds simple but it is hard to do.

Thankfully, this manga does it really well.

CONCLUSION

Overall, I'm still reading Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You and, enjoying it a lot but I can't give a final verdict yet.

It's relaxing and funny in small ways and surprisingly heartfelt while the characters feel genuine and the artwork is beautiful in addition to the peaceful atmosphere makes every reading session something I actually look forward to.

If you are searching for a manga that does not rely on nonstop action or huge plot twists, and instead offers meaningful conversations, lovable characters, & a cozy slice of life experience, I think this one is absolutely worth checking out.

I want to keep reading as well as I hope it stays the same quality throughout.

If you've read Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You I'd love to hear your thoughts just keep it spoiler free since I'm still reading it.

Anyway thats it for this post. Please do give your reviews in the comments section below. I would really appreciate it :)

I'll be back with another one soon. So do follow me if you want to stay updated. Till then, Stay Happy and Stay Hydrated.
