Batman

Review by @rvgenaille · 2560d · of Batman

I can’t sleep.

30 years ago, last Sunday, June 23, the movie, Batman, was released. Directed by Tim Burton, the movie starred Michael Keaton as Batman/Bruce Wayne, Jack Nicholson as the Joker/Jack Napier and Kim Basinger as Vicki Vale. The movie was weird and Gothic and really cool.

I was not a fan of Batman. In truth, I’m still not really a fan of Batman but I love this take on Batman. This film and it’s sequel, Batman Returns, are really interesting. I remember seeing articles about fans super upset at the casting of Michael Keaton. This didn’t really bother me too much as the last Keaton/Burton collaboration was Beetlejuice and I was really impressed with Keaton in that. Bear in mind I was 14 during all this but still... Keaton’s Bruce Wayne was really cool. He was a little messed up and that made total sense to me. Still does. And Nicholson’s Joker is awesome (you are allowed to like both Nicholson’s and Heath Ledger’s interpretations). I don’t buy into the whole “that’s not my” statements even when I sometimes say, Keaton is my Batman. -photo via IMDb.com.
