[Batman] James Gunn has once again confirmed what he's been saying for several interviews. There won't be two Batman films in one year for various reasons (e.g., marketing cannibalization); other characters are equally important, and above all, he won't start a new film with a finished script. https://www.comingsoon.net/movies/news/2085224-batman-the-brave-and-the-bold-casting-update-james-gunn-dcu

[Superman] The director revealed that his longtime collaborator (who also co-wrote other films and series, such as the new Shogun) has joined the cast. Gunn also denied the casting rumors. https://www.comingsoon.net/movies/news/2085183-man-of-tomorrow-cinematographer-dop-confirmed-james-gunn

    https://www.comingsoon.net/movies/news/2085187-man-of-tomorrow-james-gunn-batman-wonder-woman-superman-rumors

[The Rivals of Amziah King] This year, we'll get a new film starring Matthew McConaughey. It received very high reviews from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. https://www.comingsoon.net/movies/news/2083979-the-rivals-of-amziah-king-release-date-theaters-matthew-mcconaughey

[Dreadful] We'll see Sansa Stark and John Snow in one film. Premiere: February 20th. https://variety.com/2026/film/news/dreadful-trailer-kit-harington-sophie-turner-game-of-thrones-1236632487/

[Wife and Dog] This same year, from the same distributor, we'll get a new film by renowned director Guy Ritchie. This is his first collaboration with Dr. Strange. https://www.comingsoon.net/movies/news/2083957-wife-and-dog-plot-details-release-date-guy-ritchie

[Wishful Thinking] The daughter of Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawk has a chance to break into acting after the Stranger Things finale. Although the final season was so-so, the actress's portrayal is one of the best in Netflix history. Lewis Pullman also caught my eye after his performance in Thunderbolts. The script description is interesting, and so is the gaming theme (what's more, the film was produced by an experienced indie gamer!) I'll be eager to see it when it hits theaters. Apparently later this year. https://www.comingsoon.net/movies/news/2083951-wishful-thinking-maya-hawke-lewis-pullman-first-look-premiere-date

[Corporate Retreat] This year we're also getting a horror comedy starring Alan Ruck and a few less-than-recognizable actors. https://www.comingsoon.net/movies/trailers/2083850-alan-ruck-new-horror-movie-corporate-retreat-trailer

[Knight of the Seven Kingdoms] The second Game of Thrones spin-off got off to a rather poor start, according to reviews. However, from what a friend told me, it's not that bad. https://www.comingsoon.net/tv/news/2083345-a-knight-of-the-seven-kingdoms-debuts-with-worst-rt-score-among-got-debut-seasons

[Game of Thrones Sequel?] According to The Hollywood Reporter, a Game of Thrones sequel is in the works. Anya Stark is rumored to be the main character. We still don't know if the actress will return to the role, but Quoc Dang Tran is said to be writing the script. As for my opinion, well, it's a pretty obvious decision. Nevertheless, I hope it's a spin-off disguised as a sequel. Game of Thrones was ruined by the showrunners, and there's no point in touching a corpse. It still smells the same as it did during the premiere of EVERY episode of the last season. Better to leave it alone, or even better, lock it in a closet and never mention it. https://gamerant.com/game-of-thrones-sequel-show-series-arya-stark/

[On the Roam] This summer, we'll probably get a second season of the Jason Momoa show. https://www.comingsoon.net/tv/news/2084801-hbo-max-jason-momoa-on-the-roam-season-2-release-date

[The Pitt] The medical drama series, however, is winning numerous awards and boasting high viewership. I think it's time to revisit this series, as episode 1 completely turned me off. It was too boring and uninteresting, in my opinion. https://www.comingsoon.net/tv/news/2084637-the-pitt-season-2-viewership-views-increase-bump

[Harry Potter] Hans Zimmer will compose the soundtrack for the HBO series. https://variety.com/2026/tv/news/harry-potter-series-hans-zimmer-original-score-1236631551/

[The Exorcist] The new version of the classic horror film will be released next year, not the year originally planned. The new date is March 12, 2027. https://www.comingsoon.net/movies/news/2085180-the-exorcist-release-date-mike-flanagan-scarlett-johansson

[Paranormal Activity] Another horror film will debut on May 21. https://www.comingsoon.net/movies/news/2085173-paranormal-activity-8-release-date-summer-may-2027

[28 Years Later: The Bone Temple] The latest installment has received positive reviews and high ratings. I'm not sure what to think of this series. I've seen both installments and they made absolutely no impression on me. Nevertheless, Sony's success is worth noting. https://www.comingsoon.net/movies/news/2085237-28-years-later-the-bone-temple-box-office-underperform

[The Rivals of Amziah King] W tym roku dostaniemy nowy film z Matthew McConaughey.

[Dreadful] Zobaczymy Sansę Stark i Johna Snow w jednym filmie. Premiera 20 lutego. https://variety.com/2026/film/news/dreadful-trailer-kit-harington-sophie-turner-game-of-thrones-1236632487/

Chętnie obejrzę, gdy trafi do kin. Podobno jeszcze w tym roku. https://www.comingsoon.net/movies/news/2083951-wishful-thinking-maya-hawke-lewis-pullman-first-look-premiere-date

[Corporate Retreat] W tym roku dostaniemy też komedię-horror z Alanem Ruckiem i kilkoma słabo rozpoznawalnymi aktorami. https://www.comingsoon.net/movies/trailers/2083850-alan-ruck-new-horror-movie-corporate-retreat-trailer

[Knight of the Seven Kingdoms] Drugi spin-off Gry o Tron zaczął dość kiepsko wg recenzji.

[Sequel Gry o Tron?] Jak donosi The Hollywood Reporter, trwają prace nad sequelem do Gry o Tron. Jeśli chodzi o moje zdanie, cóż, to dość oczywista decyzja. Niemniej mam nadzieję, że będzie to spin-off udający sequel.

[On the Roam] W te wakacje prawdopodobnie dostaniemy 2 sezon show z Jasonem Momoa. https://www.comingsoon.net/tv/news/2084801-hbo-max-jason-momoa-on-the-roam-season-2-release-date

[The Pitt] Za to serial medyczny zdobywa wiele nagród oraz cechuje się wysoką oglądalnością. Chyba czas wrócić do tego serialu, bo 1 odcinek mnie totalnie odrzucił. Był zbyt nudny i mało ciekawy wg mnie. https://www.comingsoon.net/tv/news/2084637-the-pitt-season-2-viewership-views-increase-bump

[Harry Potter] Hans Zimmer przygotuje soundtrack do serialu HBO. https://variety.com/2026/tv/news/harry-potter-series-hans-zimmer-original-score-1236631551/

Nowa data to 12 marca 2027. https://www.comingsoon.net/movies/news/2085180-the-exorcist-release-date-mike-flanagan-scarlett-johansson

[Paranormal Activity] Z kolei inny przedstawiciel horrorów zadebiutuje 21 maja. https://www.comingsoon.net/movies/news/2085173-paranormal-activity-8-release-date-summer-may-2027

[28 Years Later: The Bone Temple] Najnowsza część zdobyła dobre opinie i wysokie oceny.

    Batman Begins

Bruce Wayne, having witnessed the murder of his wealthy parents, begins a journey through Asia, where he is trained by a dangerous ninja leader. Returning to Gotham City, he discovers that the city and his father’s company are in the hands of organized crime, so he creates a new persona—the Batman—to intervene.

In 2005, a new trilogy of the beloved hero begins, directed by Christopher Nolan, which would go on to redefine the character.

Batman Begins presents a more grounded and darker side of the masked hero, something I really liked.

Well-balanced action scenes with suspense and the kind of spectacle you expect from a superhero film, a multi-layered portrayal of Batman, an amazing cast with incredible on-screen chemistry (a prime example being Freeman and Caine), and Christian Bale—perfect for this new version of Batman. The only element that didn’t quite work for me was the presence of Katie Holmes 🤷‍♂️. Everyone else I mentioned, along with Gary Oldman and Liam Neeson, gives their absolute best.

I’m a fan of Nolan, so once again he fully confirms my expectations, delivering excellent work in both the directing and the film’s finale.

The visual effects are decent, though nothing extraordinary—but that’s something Nolan never intended to heavily invest in anyway.

    The Dark Knight

Working together with Police Lieutenant Jim Gordon and the dynamic district attorney Harvey Dent, Batman has managed to restrict the activities of Gotham City’s criminal gangs. However, the Joker appears—a new, dangerous criminal whose actions no one can predict.

In 2008, the second film in Nolan’s trilogy was released, and for many it is the best of the three—rightfully so, in my opinion.

A major reason for this is the character of the Joker, portrayed by the late Heath Ledger. His performance as the Joker is exceptional, with many considering it one of the greatest in the history of cinema. A restrained madness that inspires awe, with the scene of him unleashing chaos on the city being truly monumental.

Nolan once again does an outstanding job with the direction, delivering to the viewer a modern comic-book adventure filled with suspense, tension, and adrenaline at its peak.

The film lasts 2.5 hours, and although there are small segments where the pace drops a bit, the overall result is captivating. The character development is quite strong, the action unfolds within a more realistic framework—which I personally like—and the script is carefully crafted, with multiple layers of analysis and depth: bold, ominous, and at times brutal.

    The Dark Knight Rises

The appearance of Bane, a terrorist who spreads chaos throughout Gotham City, forces Batman—who has been retired from action for years—to step back into the fight one more time.

In 2012, Nolan’s trilogy about the Dark Knight comes to a close, this time with Batman facing Bane as the main villain.

Tom Hardy is excellent and unrecognizable as Bane; he manages to be terrifying and menacing, both in his physical presence and in his performance.

Christian Bale and Anne Hathaway as Catwoman, along with the rest of the cast, also deliver very strong performances.

At certain points, I noticed pacing issues, although they never overshadow the overall result. The film also proved to be more ambitious than it could ultimately handle—meaning it has both shortcomings and excesses.

Despite the intense violence, the film shows very little blood—understandable to an extent given its PG-13 rating, but it also makes the film less realistic, something that may “stand out” to some viewers.

I also don’t consider the soundtrack to be one of the best. And while the film has quite a few negatives, especially compared to its two predecessors, Nolan has built a world so dark and bleak that these issues fall into the background. It has its big, spectacular scenes, which compensate the viewer (the plane hijacking, the stadium collapse, the police officers trapped in Gotham’s underground).

I also liked that Nolan “plays” with two fundamental societal factors—security and economic instability. I found that excellent.

The superhero overload we got from the MCU and—to a noticeably lesser extent—from the DCEU over the past decade exhausted me. At some point after Endgame, I abandoned the genre for quite some time, especially considering the rapid decline of these universes. The Batman by Reeves happened to be released during this period, so I never paid attention to it. Until today, when I completely lost it. So, here are some belated thoughts on The Batman, but also on the cinematic Batman in general. In 1989, Tim Burton made it clear on the big screen that Batman is a universal character; he doesn’t exclusively cater to children, nor is he the hero you’re used to. Several films later, we’ve seen different narratives and periods in the life of the caped crusader—sometimes successful, sometimes not so much—with the Nolan trilogy as a reference point. However, in my opinion, Reeves comes to revise everything and lay the foundation for the best Batman shared universe we’ve seen so far. I'll start with the simplest thing. The scene between Batman and the Riddler in Arkham is the most Batman thing we’ve ever seen on the big screen. And not just in terms of script or direction, but even more so in terms of acting. Pattinson's phenomenal performance managed to convey the hero’s desperation in a completely human way, a state that has been highlighted many times in the comics as well as in the Arkham video games. Batman is neither super nor a hero; he’s a detective who first and foremost struggles with himself, and Reeves managed to depict this as vividly as possible throughout the film. Of course, I have no intention of starting comparisons. Everyone chooses which depiction of Batman they liked the most—and fortunately, we have many versions to choose from. I’ll simply say that, at least with this movie, Reeves gave me everything I’ve been searching for all these years from a cinematic Batman: a dark, dirty, suffocating noir. And with that in mind, I’d like to briefly touch on the most underrated Batman movie, 'Batman Begins.' Although I think Nolan changed direction narratively in the next two films, making them more action-centered and closer to the 'superhero' genre—without saying that’s a bad or inappropriate thing—in the introductory film, we have exactly that atmosphere, the tragedy, the suffocation. Plus, we finally see a beloved villain, Scarecrow, in a true masterclass performance by Cillian Murphy. I never understood why it’s often overlooked. Anyway, that’s about it. We’re eagerly awaiting the development of the universe. And if, after this movie, there are still people who believe that Pattinson doesn’t belong among the best of his generation, well, I don’t know what to say.

  4. BATMAN 1989: Una memorable película del caballero oscuro EN/ES.@fabian98835d

Greetings dear friends Cinefilos... We know that the Batman character has had its ups and downs in cinema. We have seen iconic sagas like Christopher Nolan's or extremely silly movies like the Batman with nipples. But be that as it may, there is a reference in terms of a memorable movie of the dark knight and this is the 1989 Batman where we could see Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson, sharing screens in this classic film directed by Tim Burton. A memorable movie since we could see first hand all the evil that the Joker has to offer, which went from being a simple villain who gave laughter to a real mind of the criminal world. This classic film will captivate you with its dark atmosphere, memorable soundtrack and unforgettable characters.

Saludos queridos amigos Cinefilos..

The plot revolves around Bruce Wayne, a millionaire who witnessed the murder of his parents as a child. This traumatic event led him to become Batman, a vigilante who fights crime in Gotham City, a terrible city that is plagued by corruption and violence. But one thing that will prevent Batman from delivering justice is the Joker, a formidable villain who plans to bring Gotham City to its knees and plunge it into chaos.

    Batman-230408190-large.jpg Source - filmaffinity

Batman's main enemy in this film is the Joker, played masterfully by Jack Nicholson. This villain, a master of chaos and madness, sets out to plunge Gotham City into terror. The battle between Batman and the Joker is one of the strong points of the film, thanks to the chemistry between the two actors and the tension generated by their confrontation.

But Batman is no slouch, as he stands out for his dark, gothic visual style, a departure from the more colorful, campy depiction of the character in the comics and TV series of the time. Tim Burton's direction creates a unique atmosphere that transports you to a decadent and danger-ridden Gotham City.

For the time, Batman featured innovative special effects that brought the Batmobile, Batcave and other tools of the hero to life. The action scenes, especially the chases, are thrilling and keep you on the edge of your seat.

But this Batman movie besides having incredible special effects, has a memorable cast. Michael Keaton gives a memorable performance as Batman, capturing the duality of the character: his vulnerable side as Bruce Wayne and his strength and determination as a vigilante. Jack Nicholson, as already mentioned, steals the show with his portrayal of the Joker, creating an iconic, sadistic and brutal villain as he wreaks havoc on the city, an epic performance that has stuck in the audience's memory.

Batman is not only an action and adventure film, but also explores themes such as justice, revenge, redemption and the duality of the human being. The film invites us to reflect on the nature of good and evil, and the role that heroes can play in society.

Some incredible aspects of Batman are:

The soundtrack by Danny Elfman: An iconic piece of music that has become a symbol of the film.

The Batmobile: A futuristic and powerful vehicle that became one of Batman's most famous gadgets.

The Batcave: A place full of secrets and technology that serves as a base of operations for the hero.

The chemistry between Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson: Two exceptional actors who gave life to two memorable characters.

In conclusion, this is one of the iconic batman movies, setting a precedent for other dark knight movies, if you liked this movie, leave me a comment with your opinion, thank you very much for reading, see you next time.

  5. Mi Opinión Acerca de la Saga de Batman (Spa-Eng)@pannavi913d

This post is both in English and Spanish, you can go to the English post by Clicking here HERE

    ***

Hello #MoviesAndTVShows community! Before the end of the year, I'm taking the opportunity to have a few movie marathons that I've been looking forward to watching for months. One of them is the Batman Saga from the director Christopher Nolan.

    𝔹𝕒𝕥𝕞𝕒𝕟 𝕊𝕒𝕘𝕒

**Batman Begins**, **Batman The Dark Knight** and **Batman The Dark Knight Rises.**

I'm going to give a brief opinion of what I liked about each movie so as not to make the post so long and because they are so old and popular, I imagine that most of you have seen them so I warn you that my post may contain spoilers.

I admit that when I knew that this movie was coming out I had my expectations pretty high because after so many years a director finally decided to tell the story of Batman in Gotham City. One of the things I loved about the movie is being able to see the more human side of Bruce Wayne, director Christopher Nolan managed to capture a billionaire quite real and adjusted to his environment.

That is to say, it showed us where the idea of Batman comes from, besides giving us a humanized superhero, who takes quite a few blows, to the point of putting his life at risk and almost dying on several occasions. The cast selected, for me, was the best of all. Seeing Liam Neeson play a villain, one who is thirsty for revenge and destruction, all mysterious and besides being the one who taught Batman to be Batman. To me, it was epic. And Cillian Murphy, how could I leave him out, he just stood out with those iconic looks he got to do.

When I saw it the other day, the movie with its scenes, it took me back to the first moment I saw it, to feel again that emotion in the action scenes, that drama when Bruce fell silent as a child and the phrase that was said to him:

Why do we fall Bruce? - To learn how to get up -

This movie has held a special place in my heart since it came out in 2005.

How not to love this film? If it was the most masterful performance of all time from the incredible actor. Heath Ledger. I remember that when I knew that he would play the role of the Joker, I did not imagine how his interpretation would be, since I knew him from other movies always playing the role of a good boy and I was quite intrigued by the way he acted as a villain.

And what can I say? he exceeded my expectations, for me he is my favorite character of the whole saga, since he embodied such a perverse, psychotic, and intelligently meticulous villain, with no fear of death, nor of life, he simply interpreted masterfully An Agent of Chaos.

There were two lines from this film that stuck in my mind and my heart. One was the scene of Harvey Dent talking to The Joker in the hospital room, in which he tells him:

I'm like a dog that runs after cars. I wouldn't know what to do if I caught up with one.

And the other scene and phrase that stuck with me was Alfred telling Bruce:

Some men just want to watch the world burn.

I also didn't expect Rachel, Bruce's great love, to be a victim of the Joker, I liked the twist they gave to the story. Although the actress who worked in this movie was not the same as in the first one, for me it still covered my expectations but I admit I was a little disappointed to learn that they had changed the actress. I wasn't expecting it.

I liked EVERYTHING about this movie! Amazingly, I liked it more than the previous one and even though the second movie is my favorite, this would be by far my second favorite. Just to see Anne Hathaway as Catwoman and Tom Hardy As the wacky and super muscular Bane, already there the movie has another level.

I enjoyed seeing Cillian Murphy playing his role as an extremist judge when the city went to chaos especially that chaos in a city that was already chaos, it was something that I liked too much. It kept me stressed throughout the movie knowing that a bomb would go off and they couldn't locate it to defuse it.

I liked that within all that chaos there was planning, in all that chaos there was order, and the best thing is that everything happened according to what they planned. The fights between Batman and Bane were masterful, pure muscle against their ideal, against the desire for justice. It was simply epic.

And to see Anne working as Catwoman, keeping a sexy side quite simple but with a lot of elegance and her fight scenes, I liked her performance, she covered my expectations and even surprised me with her fight scenes, it was like seeing an unknown side of her.

As for scenes that stuck with me from this movie, there's the one of Bane being Bane and he says these words:

If you mention the devil, he may appear to you.

Watching Tom Hardy work as a villain, blew me away and every time I see him playing this particular role, I love it. I also didn't recognize him when I saw this film for the first time, and well now when I see him I stay 😍.

I recommend you to watch these movies again with a good portion of popcorn. They are worth it. For me, it is:

Well moviegoers, here's my opinion about The Batman Saga. I would like to know if you already saw it or want to see it after reading it. I'll say goodbye until the next post not before thanking you for reading my opinion. Greetings! And be well! 😄

  7. 'Batman' by Tim Burton Review: I actually really enjoyed this one@namiks1019d

    vlcsnap-2023-09-13-18h31m04s193.png

I wanted to watch Watchmen today, but realised I wasn't quite feeling it. I remembered that recently wanted to watch the Tim Burton Batman films, I don't recall ever really watching them, especially when I was a child. And I don't really have a big interest in the more modern superhero films, for many various reasons. I wasn't sure what to expect going into Batman, and I completely forgot that Tim Burton even had anything to do with them. But this is very much a Tim Burton film in style. I also was quite uncertain as to what I would think of Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne, for some reason I just didn't really see it working out. But I think everything came together quite well. I think a lot of this is down to the era itself, having a strong influence on the technical capabilities the film had, adding to the soul.

On top of this, I was surprised to see that the film was two hours in length. These days I'm not so much of a fan of longe runtimes, but I hardly noticed it with Batman. It felt as if the film was constantly in motion with lots to enjoy. Running through various characters in the gritty city of Gotham without straying too far from what was important. It seemed almost odd at how much I found myself enjoying it, the cast and the characters it displayed. Defying my expectations and generally being an entertaining superhero film. It did have me question, though: just what happened to all of that charm? These films are certainly capable of it. Did the film industry just get lazy? Perhaps so, but at least these older titles are reminders of how interesting these characters and worlds can be, engaging and creative.

There may be spoilers from here on. So if you care about spoilers from an 80s Batman film, you've been warned! Though I don't feel they make much impact on the general story. Much of the film is atmosphere.

    Batman

    vlcsnap-2023-09-13-18h28m08s529.png

Michael Keaton's portrayal of Bruce Wayne sums him up as a relatively quiet individual. Often enough Bruce Wayne is portrayed as some sort of celebrity in Gotham, perhaps a bit too much. In this film, he seems much more grounded. A regular individual despite his great wealth. I liked that he seemed more human, less mentions of his finances and even less exploration of his personality. He was a relatively blank sheet, which I think actually made his character seem more interesting. There are some mentions of Wayne's wealth here and there, but it's hardly a focus and used in political discussion like the later titles. I really did not think this would work, so to see myself quickly enjoying his performance was a surprise. Keaton is hardly the largest surprise in the cast, with Jack Nicholson having a relatively large role as Joker. Again, I really didn't expect this to work as well as it did!

The film's story is mostly an origin story of the Joker character. His mob like ways and encounter with an already existing Batman that leads to Jack falling into a chamber of chemicals; he survives this horrible fate and encounter with Batman, but is horribly disfigured as a result. This is the start of Joker. His hatred for Batman, and the creation of his character as something far more threatening and motivated than he was before. His character actually feels quite threating as a result of his existing mob ties, being someone that generally isn't afraid to cause trouble. The film focuses on his character quite a lot, perhaps more than it does Bruce and his Batman activities. He isn't really roaming around engaging with different groups, only really appearing as a result of something Joker is up to.

There's a nice dynamic between Bruce's life in and outside of Batman, showing the interest people have in him from reporters, and his struggles with a love life as romance is something he's open to but of course can't really commit to. Though at the same time, this isn't delivered to us through moments of intense drama. Instead, they're minor bits of dialogue in the film between Bruce and Alfred. It makes Bruce's life look even more void of purpose, where he has no interest in the business side of things, nor does playing the role of Batman really mean a lot to him. He has a very neutral nature to him. This almost makes the side characters feel more like main characters, people that find themselves caught up in the drama between villain and vigilante as they go about trying to figure out the story of Batman as reporters.

Much of the interest I had was also in the visuals. It's a very Tim Burton film. And coming from the late 80s, it has a lot of that 80s charm. Even down to the use of 80s music. I quite liked the use of film stock and the grainy influence it had in displaying Gotham, it is both beautiful and gritty. Mixed with technology of the era, it makes Batman's gadgets look both advanced and rather mechanical. Something with some thought in it that doesn't just seem straight out of the distant future. Even down to Bruce's surveillance room in his house: regular cameras and some screens of various sizes. Nothing too fancy. Though the most ambitious creation would be his car, which of course features some screen time more towards the end. In terms of visuals, it's a very beautiful and atmospheric film, but that's of no surprise when coming from the mind of Tim Burton. And strangely, you'd think he'd be offered more work in recent years for stylised comic book films.

I think if you're someone like me that has no interest in modern superhero films but ultimately is open to watching things based on the characters, this is a good entry. It's vastly different to what you may expect. Void of the annoying lighthearted humour you often find in these films, and with a more mature take on the characters that doesn't shy away from action and portraying them as serious people. This is one of the things I liked the most of it, to see a more realistic approach to it all. Something that doesn't seem like it's made to appeal to the widest demographic, and takes care to take the more serious, darker elements of the comics that fans would expect to see. For once, I certainly recommend this superhero film! And I'll be watching the following entries over the next few days, I'm very curious!

  8. CineTV Contest: #44 - Batman (1966)@thunderjack1252d

Hold onto your Bat-ropes, everyone, because this week on CineTV, the contest is favorite Batman movie or series. This is an interesting week as there have been so many different films with Batman, making it hard to choose. My pick is Batman (1966), the film produced after the success of the Batman TV series’ first season.

batman_poster.png Batman movie poster - IMDB

My Bonnie Bride sat down with me to watch this fun-filled adventure, which is a film we have both enjoyed watching in the past. In fact, I have to admit, I remember seeing this film during its original theatrical release. Of all the Batman films and TV series, the Adam West Batman, with Burt Ward as Robin, as stuck with me throughout my life (along with, of course, Scooby-Doo/Batman team-ups). Sadly, our daughter, Little Miss, declined to join us for this popcorn and root beer thriller as she wanted to work on a costume for an upcoming SF Convention. thwack.png Batman thwacks a pirate - IMDB

There are so many reasons why I like this film. Yes, Batman campy and silly, but it is pure escapist entertainment; a film that is fun to watch time and again. It has all the elements from the TV series; cliffhangers making you wonder how The Dynamic Duo will escape certain death; The Batmobile, one of the coolest vehicles in film and television; massive fights with the “zap”, “pow”, “thwack” captions.

    batmobile.png

    Batmobile - IMDB

And a great cast of villains. All performers who show that they loved doing Batman, and worked well together. And new vehicles galore, coolest being the Batboat, speeding across the ocean blue. And the Penguin’s submarine, which uses flippers instead of propellers to move.

the_villains.png Penguin, The Riddler, Catwoman, The Joker - IMDB

The plot revolves around the alliance of The Joker (Cesar Romero), Penguin (Burgess Meredith), Catwoman (Lee Meriwether), and The Riddle (Frank Gorshin!) with plans to take over the world, or at least get filthy rich while eliminating Batman and Robin. gorshin.png Frank Gorshin as The Riddler - IMDB

All four of these supervillains worked well together in their performances, but I don’t think anyone can hold a candle to Frank Gorshin as The Riddler; his maniacal style, facial expressions, and physical acrobatics as well as his ability to shift gears into someone completely evil with just a slight change of body language, set Gorshin apart from so many other actors making him a hard act to follow.

batman_holy_boom.png Holy Bomb Disposal, Batman! - IMDB

One of the most iconic scenes in Batman is the “how to dispose of a bomb”, which has Batman running around a pier trying to dispose of a bomb that is about to detonate. He keeps running to one place to another only to be thwarted in dumping the bomb due to the presence of various innocent bystanders. When the bomb finally explodes, off camera, one is left wondering if this is the end of Batman? This is one several cliffhangers between cuts in the film, emulating the series. Yes, this is also one of the silly, yet funny bits in the film, making it special.

When I first saw Batman in theaters as a kid, it was the first time I was able to see the various characters from TV in color, as all we had was a small, portable, black and white TV. Although I didn’t read Batman comics at the time, I was certainly familiar with their comics (I read a lot of Sgt. Rock at the time), so I can’t talk about how it compared to Batman or Detective Comics from the ‘60s. By the time I started reading those series as a teenager in the ‘70s, they had taken on a more mature tone, and having outgrown the campyness of the ‘60s Batman, this was probably a good thing. But now that I am older, with a kidlet of my own (okay, she’s a teenager, now), it has been a thrill to reconnect with a movie that I had such fond memories of.

Holy Blu-Ray, Batman, even the special features are worth watching. Which we did. But that’s a whole different story. Thanks to the special features mentioning it, I now have the theme from Batman (tv series in this case) as my ringtone for my Bonnie Bride. We’re such a family of geeks.

Batman (1966) still holds up well as an entertaining film, in part because it is so silly and campy, and in part because it doesn’t take itself too seriously. And that is why it is my favorite Batman movie. By the way, I like the TV series as well (and we have it on DVD).

I hope you enjoyed this romp down memory lane with me, and thanks for stopping by.

  9. CineTV Contest: Tim Burton’s Batman@irenenavarroart1256d

Hello movie lovers, last week I missed the contest but this time I will not miss the opportunity because it is about sharing our favorite Batman movies, which is my favorite superhero. I invite @yetsimar to participate in the constest

Invito a participar a @yetsimar.

Batman (1989) and Batman Returns (1992)

The reason why Batman became my favorite superhero are the movies directed by Tim Burton in 1989 and 1992. I was born in 1989 but on open broadcast television in my country it was common to find such movies on the programming weekend in childhood, since I was little I have been attracted to dark aesthetics, so although there were animated series about the Justice League, I had not cared so much about Batman until I saw these movies, full of darkness , sinister characters, a city full of cases but at the same time beautiful and mysterious. The funny thing is that the Batman character played by Michael Keaton was the least dark, quite the opposite of what is seen, for example, in the Nolan trilogy where the protagonist has a dark psychological profile, in Tim Burton's films, Batman is I could say that he even has a certain comedy and makes him adorable, although that does not compromise his thirst for justice at all, that is, he is a funny but very firm character.

Tim Burton's movies are very consistent for me, actually Gotham City is really Gothic, in the first movie the villain was the actor Jack Nicholson playing the Joker, he played an extraordinary role, I think there was an excellent choice of actor, too I consider that the presence of Kim Basinger as the psychiatrist who tries to help the protagonist to understand a bit the psyche of the character he is facing is a very important point.

In the second film I loved the presence of Michelle Pfiffer madly as a catwoman, in fact the song that she dances with Bruce and that at the end they realize the identity of each one, is Face to Face by Siouxsie and the banshees, one of my favorite bands of all time, an icon of the gothic subculture. I still frequently listen to that song and the movie continues in my head. I think there is no better couple than Batman and Catwoman in that movie.

    image.png

Another reason why I love Batman Return, is the wonderful acting and makeup work they did with Dani DeVito, I think there are very few villains in movie history that can look as scary as him, even when he enters his underground lair all the scenery is impressive, even the detail of using a duck-shaped boat was a spectacular detail. As I said before, the aesthetic used in those two films is the best, it's really dark, so much so that even though the plot is about a vigilante like Batman, it seems like a mystery and horror movie, it's a very expressionist aesthetic.

For me, Batman is an incredible character, because he does not have super powers, he is a person who used his money and influence to cultivate his mind and body in a disciplined way, fighting for justice, he is a true avenger who, after a traumatic event like It was losing his parents in the hands of a criminal, he fights against the injustices of the city where he lives. That for me is fantastic, because as an inhabitant of a country where insecurity and crime are common, I would very much like someone like Batman to exist, willing to make all the bad guys pay the price.

  10. Batman (1989) review: Burton was a visionary.@richardalexis1559d

    Separador.png

One of the biggest challenges we must face when evaluating any classic film is that many times this very status serves as a kind of protective layer that deflects any form of criticism. 1989's Batman is a very particular case because not only did the passage of time solidify its legitimacy, but Burton's undeniable influence on the character's development in all media other than film made this film a bible on how to develop the character correctly.

    0AABDF6A-EE94-4DF8-BE4F-B58F043CCE41.jpeg

This is a privilege that very few filmmakers have, Joel Schumacher is hated almost in unison all over the internet because of what he did with Batman and Robin, and even the most prestigious today like Christopher Nolan received very bitter criticism for his vision for the sequel to The Dark Knight: Rises.

For me, although it is important to recognize the impact that Burton's vision had, I also find a certain fascination in leaving behind the lenses of nostalgia to attack his weaknesses, defects that films like The Dark Knight or the recent The Batman have known how to correct with great deal. skill (And this is not even mentioning brilliant animated films like The Mask of the Phantom, The Dark Knight Returns or the hilarious Lego Batman).

    4154CA91-0739-4D6A-A6D2-003396A38882.jpeg

You see, although I agree that from the visual point of view, Burton gave us the definitive version of the bat (something that is reinforced by the beautiful soundtrack by Dany Elfman and a fairly decent casting), at the same time it is a vision that implies a lot of sacrifices to function correctly. , sacrifices that often go against the myth of the bat to deliver an entertaining and unpretentious story.

Reeves and Nolan, for example, have been filmmakers who have devoted a good portion of their footage to trying to establish Batman's moral compass clearly, from his simple "no kill" rule to his outright rejection of crime on the street. gotham city

    C9BC3121-5F44-44EA-984C-82553B53C956.jpeg

This of course does not mean that the 1989 film lacks value, on the contrary, in its good moments it permeates it with a nostalgic simplicity where Bruce Wayne shares more similarities with an eighties movie hero than with a comic book character.

Leaving the more "Moral" aspects aside, it is surprising how many elements of the classic story were handled so well, Burton's dark approach was a departure from the camp spirit of Adam West but at the same time felt very organic within. From the story we were told, Gotham's buildings had a strong art-deco aesthetic that gave the city a simultaneously historic and futuristic feel, dirt is plentiful, and hope is struggling to emerge.

Most of the primary and secondary characters work very well, Keaton is his excellent Batman and his scenes as Bruce Wayne convey the Playboy millionaire energy that we already take for granted, Jack Nicholson took the craziness of Cesar Romero and brought it to a much higher plane. more twisted, while Alfred, Vicky Vale, Harvey Dent, all manage to contribute something to the general development of the plot with simple but well-defined personalities.

The greatest triumph of Batman 1989 lies in all those little elements included that give the character so much flavor, the brilliantly designed Batmobile, the gothic take on the classic suit using black and yellow, the gadgets, the atmosphere... it's a hodgepodge. that has survived the passing of the years, although there are a couple of cracks that are easy to ignore.

  11. Batman Film Poster analysis - 1989 to 2022 - Let's talk about power, and where a woman's worth is located.@lordtimoty1570d

    image.png

Let me start off by saying, I'm not really a Batman kind of guy, but I was having a look at the 'Now Showing' of my local theatre's website, and I did pause on this one. I wanted take this post to explore some thoughts - and hopefully the discursive process will help me think about what it is I thought - bare with me.

    image.png

A quick Google search of 'Batman films' leads me to this snapshot. There is something of an embedded power structure within the films, which the 2022 film poster seems to perpetuate.

Going back to 1989 - the poster featured a bat cut out in a yellow disc. The image is iconic now, and it evoked an animalistic understanding of who and what Batman was. Like a bat, we came to associate him with the dark - and he took on almost a sinister quality. These associations were enhanced in the film, as the citizens of Gotham did not universally embrace him. The film poster itself is interesting because it promotes a concept, not an individual figure.

That shifted in 1992 with 'Batman Returns' - where a totem of heads are depicted on the poster. The hero at the top, the villain below, and the woman in between - She is above 'The Penguin', yet the positioning in the poster implies she doesn't have the same significance of power of the character in the upper third of the image. Indeed, the angles of the cutout in her mark point upwards - and draw our eyes up to Batman, and away from her. Similarly, her jaw points us to the male below her. Batman has a different colouring, and this leaves him as the focal figure. What role does the female play in this poster? Not much really -

    • It evokes the concept of the Elizabethan Chain of Being - the woman is above the animals, but below the man in regards to importance in the world. 400 Years after that concept is grounded, it continued to hold relevance.

1997 rolled around, I remember it well when this film came out. It was made for a very different demographic than the first two feature films, playing with colour, rather than dark landscapes - yet, the film poster still reinforces concepts of power through the positioning of the five characters on the poster. It is a rule in the construction of images that the least important elements are in the bottom third. This is where we locate both women. Yet, when we do locate them, our attention isn't kept - instead, the green and purple lines become vectors which draw our gaze to the male characters above. Even the red of Poison Ivy's hair seems to blend into the red behind Robin and she can't maintain our focus.

From there, women seem to disappear from the advertising posters. Yet, Batman is constantly seen in position of power. Consider the low angle looking up at Batman in the 2012 The Dark Knight Rises, positioning him over the audience, while the red colours behind him suggest masculinity and power. This colour symbolism became a significant feature of the 2005 poster, 'Batman Begins' - which shows Batman in the foreground of the image, again, positioning his prominence and importance. The 2008 'The Dark Knight' seemed to be the blend of those two - making use of the burning reds, while the camera looks up at the eponymous figure.

It's been a while then, since we've seen Batman on a film poster. And I do wonder what we should make of this one. The name Robert Pattinson stands out to me - and I think I would struggle with this one, always thinking of him as the Twilight vampire, and never Batman. (Fun fact, did you know a very young Robert Pattinson was in Harry Potter?).

So, let's talk power. In this shot, we don't have the low angle looking up - but power is still communicated through the positioning of the characters. Batman is in the foreground of the image, and visually, he occupies the most space on the poster - dominating the image in black. The burning reds of the previous film posters again transition into this image, connoting a sense of danger and power - again though, this is a colour associated with masculinity - as is black. At a symbolic level, the entire visual promotes a masculine power - and indeed, Batman is shot looking down to Catman. This implies a standing over and in inequality between the pair.

Going back only six years, in the 2016 film Batman vs Superman - you'll notice both characters are equal in height, and equal in stature, and equal in the space they occupy on the poster. The dominant colours in the image draw on the red of Batman, and the blue of Superman in equal measure. There is a respect offered to both male characters.

It raises the question then, about the worth attributed to Catwoman. Something else, however, is at play in the film poster. If you were to look at Catwoman, she is shrouded in red glow - again, the colour we've come to associate with Batman. However, the way she has been positioned allows her chest to be outlined against the sky behind her. It raises the question as to the purpose of the shot - which would seem to be to sexually objectify the character, assuming as a 'lesser' figure, her value is in her womanly figure, rather than the cultural value she's developed in and external to the DC world. Is her power solely located in her sexuality?

If this is where her power is located in 2022, it seems that we're still hanging out in 2004! The below still is from the 2004 film 'Catwoman' starring Halle Berry. It appears she had a particular function as a character in that film too. Who thought we might have moved on from this, particularly given the social movements of the last couple of years.

  12. "Batman 1989" review@herosik1607d

    B1989 ENG.jpg

My schedule for watching movies and series from the '80s and' 90s didn't quite go well. I had too many responsibilities, I had to read the entire, large and complicated book by Jacek Bartosiak, and I was not able to feel the atmosphere. I limited myself to playing "Half Life 1", watching a season 1 track of "Beavis and Butthead" and trying to watch a few movies. I didn't like any of them after 20 minutes of screening, so I decided to reach for my 100% private movie list. The ones that I really wanted to watch (because the movies I wrote about in the first sentence are the titles recommended to me by my colleagues, friends). Irritated, I reached for a title that I will definitely watch until the end - whether I like it or not. I've never been a fan of this movie, especially when I was a child and teenager, it seemed funny to me. I've never seen it in its entirety, only fragments on TV. Batman hardly moves, Nicholson's acting was unacceptable to me for most of my life, not exactly the Knight of the Night I knew - he was too down to earth in my opinion. For years, however, I have been able to distinguish between facts and emotions. I am also able to watch the entire movie (series or anime), if it is highly praised by my relatives, whose opinion is important to me. Even if this genre does not suit me at all. For this reason, for several years I have been catching up with titles that were very important to people I could call my peers. I want to see if I like them and if I can consider them good.

    B2.jpg

And let me tell you this ... I'm still not a fan of it, but I appreciate it and I like it in my own way. Mostly because I needed an antidote for today's Marvel, DC and recently Sony movies. It is true that the third studio bothers me the least, because their productions are the closest to the old times (except for those created in collaboration with Disney), but I am still irritated by modernity. I wanted to see an image when the creators had to use more of the practical special effects of those years and less of CGI. I wanted to see something from a different era, with all its advantages and disadvantages. I was also curious what the work inspired by the creators of "Batman The Animated Series" looks like. I was surprised a few times very positively, for example with how well this film reflects comics. Ie. Bruce Wayne's personality, his relationship with women, Alfred, who he fought with (before the '90s, Batman fought more often with ordinary gangsters than with some mutants or threats from outside the Earth). Or other things I've seen in different art forms, lots of easter eggs for comic book fans. I don't know comics, I didn't read any, but for years this was the image of this hero in other media + many years later, I found out from UncleMroowy (I recommend this channel on YT) that it was more or less the same in comics. Even though it's not a super faithful adaptation, I think the creators did a good job in this aspect. Batman and Joker by Keaton and Nicholson were well brought to the big screen. For better or worse, all their essential features are shown. Especially in the case of the Joker - it was one of the few situations where I did not see a madman who did not scare me (you probably will disagree with that - well, my opinion), but a truly dangerous bandit. Although he has his abnormal behavior, he showed that he should be afraid. It is a bit worse with Bruce and his alter-ego. It's far from my favorite incarnation of this hero, but it's ok - I have no reason to complain other than "I just don't like it." Except for this armor, which makes the scenes in which he moves or fights numb. Well, I accept it, anyway.

    B3.jpg

    B2.jpg

I was also surprised by how much I liked the late '80s atmosphere of this movie. I expected it to bother me, but it was completely the opposite. It gave me pure, unfettered joy to observe it, although it was more like visiting a nice museum. Forgive me, but I can't treat this movie differently - I liked this style (well, I can even say that I am infatuated with it!), I could even watch the sequels, I watched it with genuine curiosity, but apart from the character of the Joker, I am not able to watch it seriously. It reminds me more of a much lighter version of "Batman Forever", but incomparably better made. Everything is so exaggerated for me - the appearance of the characters, the surroundings (those giant pipes, valves, policemen, Batman is too "heavy" for his armor that restricts his movements), Bruce Wayne, who is completely unconvincing to me as a warrior of justice .. I can't find a valid reason to complain, it just doesn't appeal to me. In "The Animated Series" it was different, but in cartoons everything looks better (and the creators have more possibilities). Batman is faster, more sinister, Bruce is closer to a playboy than just a cute and charming charmer ("my" Bruce is also like that, but the one from Michael Keaton is IMO more clumsy), the Joker, the Batmobile, his fighter and Alfred they also made a better impression on me, but again - I am referring here to the fact that it is easier to embellish it in a cartoon, so I do not take these arguments into account. Nevertheless, I repeat - even if I complain about these things, I like them, but I cannot understand the delight of my colleagues, mates and friends.

    B4.jpg

When it comes to music, I have absolutely no reason to complain. Danny Elfman made the best cinematic OST for a movie about this character I've ever heard. This is an understatement - no one is even able to compete with him, it's like a big guy (but without much experience in a street fight, for example) is trying to compete with an experienced MMA fighter. No kidding, please - Danny has no one to compete with. Anyway, this soundtrack was so good that Batman's theme was used to compose the opening credits of TAS (BTW, this is probably the only piece that I value more than the composer's work from that production). From what I think, some of the songs were also inspired by it, as well as the whole atmosphere of the series, which is much more suited to this soundtrack than the movie from 89.

    B5.jpg

In short, I played like an adult child. Two things in particular - The Joker, which finally stopped looking like a cheap cosplay to me (yes, you can already pile up to burn me on top of it), and I began to respect him like Jared Leto, Heath Ledger, Joaquin Phoenix and Mark Hamill ( especially the two at the end) and differences from "today's" lore, Batman's "rogue gallery" and the way Gotham + its inhabitants are portrayed. Sometimes I would like to go back to those times and taste it in prime time ... Anyway, if, like me, you have not yet seen this movie by some miracle, then it is worth catching up. From the production side, I have nothing to complain about, except for short and artificial scenes with Batman (a similar problem was in the case of James Cameron's "Alien") - I think that every aspect could be at least 7/10. When it comes to effects, battle scenes, Batmobile etc. I'm not delighted with them, but from the perspective of those times, it looked at least good again. I suspect the fans and the kids were as fucking happy as people today are waiting for the new "The Batman" or an important episode of the MCU cinematic series. Overall, I had a very nice time, so I will not hesitate to watch the sequel right after writing this text.

¡Comencemos!

Welcome my dearest friends, sick maniacs and passionate about the wonderful world of video games, and those who don't, join me.

Today I'm going to induce you into the parallel universe of Batman, on the small Nintendo console.

I will also share with you my first chapter of this great videogame through a Gameplay video that I shared today on my YouTube channel, I hope you like it.

¿¡What are we waiting for!?, ¡let's start!

Capture made by me / Captura hecha por mi

This tremendous video game was released in 1989 and developed by the company SunSoft.

I am absolutely sure that many of you know this tremendous video game, let's travel a little to the past, where the Nintendo console was taking its first steps towards the chasm.

Today I will tell you a little bit about this first chapter, we will have a lot of fun and let's see what awaits us in this fantastic adventure.

Capture made by me / Captura hecha por mi

We start our fantastic adventure in the batmobile, heading to the unknown city...(I don't remember the name hahaha!)

In my personal opinion, I'm always surprised about how they did the Pixel Art graphics in these Retros games, at that time there were no applications that helped you to do the hard work, personally I have worked with some drawings of this style, they are very complicated to do.

    Capture made by me

Once the scene is finished, we will see our hero of the night Batman getting out of his fantastic car.

Capture made by me / Captura hecha por mi

And we start our game with a fantastic entrance, our knight of the night comes on the scene and we will set off on an adventure.

Capture made by me / Captura hecha por mi

As soon as we start, we will take a few steps towards the only possible path, where we will face two enemies, one running towards us in brown and one in green.

gif of my authorship / gif de mi autoría

This enemy will only be in one place without moving, the weapon he uses is a flamethrower, it has a small range where we can wait a few seconds to be able to approach him and attack him.

We also have 3 items that we can collect where we will be granted 3 things.

One has the shape of a purple block with the symbol of a missile, this object does not allow us to have ammunition to be able to use 3 special abilities that we have.

    Capture made by me

If you have little health left don't worry, the enemies will drop from time to time some hearts that will serve to regenerate our vitality.
    Capture made by me

And finally, the enemies will always drop this purple block with the symbol of a "B" that means Batman, these blocks will give us many points, when we have a certain amount will give us a life or as many know them, Respaw points.

gif of my authorship / gif de mi autoría

As I mentioned before, we have 3 special abilities that we can use.

The first one is a boomerang, it is very effective against enemies that don't tend to move causing a lot of damage.

gif of my authorship / gif de mi autoría

The second skill is the pistol, very useful for attacking enemies that are far away from us.

gif of my authorship / gif de mi autoría

And the last skill available is a kind of disc that is divided into 3 parts, it is very useful to face several enemies at once, it can also cause a lot of damage, but it consumes more ammo so be careful.

Capture made by me / Captura hecha por mi

We will continue forward until we reach a dead end, we will find a mine and many enemies that are on some platforms.
We have two ways to climb, we can kill the enemies that are on the platforms, or jump from wall to wall until we reach the top.

gif of my authorship / gif de mi autoría

How can we jump on wall to wall?

It's very easy, we just have to jump to the wall and press the button you use for that movement repeatedly until you get to where your goal.
This part reminds me a lot of the video game Prince of Persia, where sometimes we had to jump between walls to get to the place where we want to be.

gif of my authorship / gif de mi autoría

Previously I mentioned about this mine, we must be very careful, because just by approaching it, it will move towards us and explode in a few seconds.

gif of my authorship / gif de mi autoría

After jumping between walls in the style of Prince of Persia, we will encounter many enemies like the one you will see in the gif at the top of this text.

This enemy is very elusive, at first you will notice that he is slow, but when he is close to you he will move at a speed that will not give you time to attack.

gif of my authorship / gif de mi autoría

Then we have this enemy, he will not move from the place where he is, but he will attack us with his gun.

To dodge his movement we just have to crouch, he will also take a rest after attacking, where you will see them crouch, that is the right time to approach and attack him.

gif of my authorship / gif de mi autoría

As we continue along the only possible path we will find 2 flying enemies, where you will see that they attack us with their weapons, they will launch 3 projectiles, in this part use as a weapon the disc that is divided into 3, since approaching it is a bit complicated because it is very fast when attacking.

Capture made by me / Captura hecha por mi

After killing the flying enemies, we will drop down a platform, where at the bottom awaits us a guardian.

He is a ninja and at the same time very fast, this is the right time to attack him with the gun, as it is what can attack much faster than other weapons we have at our disposal.
With a little luck, you will manage to kill him before he moves, he will be lying on the wall with his hands folded, he will look at his nails with a presumptuous gesture and he will lie on top of us.

Capture made by me / Captura hecha por mi

After killing the ninja we will face the boss of this level.

In each world we have a boss that will try to stop us, this enemy boss has wings propelled by thrusters, where he will be flying most of the time.

    Capture made by me

This villain only has two moves, one of them is that in the air he will jump over us, causing us a lot of damage.

gif of my authorship / gif de mi autoría

And another of his abilities is to launch a burst of energy in 4 directions, where the most comfortable way to avoid this movement is to get under him.

The best way to kill him is using the expansive disk, where we will attack him just at the moment when he throws himself on us, causing a lot of damage.

By killing him we will have finished this level.

  14. The Batman Experience - Restoring the 1989 Batsuit@cryplectibles2526d
The Batman Experience at 2019's San Diego Comic-Con offered fans a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see eighty years of Dark Knight history up close, including authentic props and costumes from his legacy of films. No collection of Bat-costumes would be complete without Michael Keaton's suit from the blockbuster 1989 movie. However, years of exposure had left his iconic costume in a degraded state. In this DC Daily clip, we go behind the scenes for an exclusive look at what it took to restore the first Batsuit of the modern era to its former glory.

    I can’t sleep.

30 years ago, last Sunday, June 23, the movie, Batman, was released. Directed by Tim Burton, the movie starred Michael Keaton as Batman/Bruce Wayne, Jack Nicholson as the Joker/Jack Napier and Kim Basinger as Vicki Vale. The movie was weird and Gothic and really cool.

I was not a fan of Batman. In truth, I’m still not really a fan of Batman but I love this take on Batman. This film and it’s sequel, Batman Returns, are really interesting. I remember seeing articles about fans super upset at the casting of Michael Keaton. This didn’t really bother me too much as the last Keaton/Burton collaboration was Beetlejuice and I was really impressed with Keaton in that. Bear in mind I was 14 during all this but still... Keaton’s Bruce Wayne was really cool. He was a little messed up and that made total sense to me. Still does. And Nicholson’s Joker is awesome (you are allowed to like both Nicholson’s and Heath Ledger’s interpretations). I don’t buy into the whole “that’s not my” statements even when I sometimes say, Keaton is my Batman. -photo via IMDb.com.

The film takes place early in the title character's war on crime, and depicts a battle with his nemesis the Joker. image image
