Mel Brooks! Anne Bancroft! In a film not directed by Brooks but still pretty good. The couple are a famous, theatrical couple in Warsaw, Poland in 1939, as the Nazi war machine rolls into the country, launching World War II. The gist of the story is a Polish bomber pilot, the performers and their theatrical troupe seek to escape Poland.

They also work to stop the Polish underground from being exposed.

Hijinks ensue. Much more low key than usual for a film starring Mel Brooks but it is still an entertaining. There is a lot of darkness here and Brooks actually gives a performance with more depth than I’m used to seeing from him.

Surprisingly Good. Worth the watch.
