Insomniac Film Festival #62: Red Sparrow

Red Sparrow is a spy thriller and it is terrifying. Set in the post Cold War Russia, Jennifer Lawrence is Dominika Egorova, a ballerina who is ruined by an injury and forced into working for the Russian Intelligence service as a Sparrow, a seductress and secret agent.

She is sent after an American agent to uncover a mole. Lots of intrigue ensue and a lot of nastiness. image This is a fascinating film, not the least because Lawrence is fairly fearless in her performance as is Joel Edgerton as the American agent, Nate Nash.

I was completely hooked on the film. There were flaws (not the least a technical one with the lighting in certain scenes that I couldn’t be sure if it was a problem with my screen or in the movie) but overall I quite enjoyed the film and am thinking of seeking out the novel it is based on.

worth the watch.
